It's game week.
Who's going? Where ya sittin'?
My group has nine tickets in Section 15, Row D.
I'l be in Anne's group -- all I know about our seats is that they're inside the building.
4 seats, I don't know where but I think we got them through harvard's ad which is kind of funny
4 Tickets in Section 19, Row F
Well, 11+ in section 13, front few rows.... Plus others.....
-J
couple c ornell fans will be in section 23. I will be in Section 20 or 19 down in front...
Doc Robin
JTW plus three in Section 14, Row F.
Will be calling tomorrow...either way, will definitely be in Providence.
@ harvard, many of us in sec 14 row G (looks like we're right behind you, john)
i guess section 14 is the "official" cornell section (no different than the rest of the rink, hopefully)
also sect P row 5 @ brown
-mike rosenberg '04
I'm with Doc Robin down in 19 on the glass. The Cornell Club has a good chunk of 19 with some spillover into 20.
Eh, I guess MAYBE I'll go. :-)
Me, my gf, my friend, my dad, my sister, and maybe more... we're all over the place :).
I'll be there with six others (three pairs of tickets all over the place), and I might be getting more standing room tickets today. We'll see about that, though.
Will I see everyone at John Harvard's beforehand?
Now that I just purchased SRO tickets, I'll be there as well.
I'll be standing somewhere!! Woohoo!! :-D When I gave the ticket lady a 607 contact phone number, she didn't sound surprised at all...
I think the surprise comes when she hears a Boston-area phone #.
QuoteJordan wrote:

Nah, lots of Cornell alumni in Boston. It'd have to be a Boston-area code with a Harvard campus exchange for it to be REALLY surprising. :-D
So I guess my buddies and I surprised the hell out of them. Of course, we all tried for Cornell section tickets.
As a side note, I have a feeling they are desparate to dump the (probably hundreds) of extra tickets, as they realize, once again, that they have no fans. Remember, this game will be televised, so we really should show the rest of the college hockey world what home ice advantage is all about.

Actually, I think we should show the rest of the college hockey world (that doesn't already know) what a traveling Lynah Faithful is all about. ;-)
I'll be there (SRO tickets)
Let's Go Red!!!
I did not toss the tickets in the trash and down the garbage chute this year. They are sitting in front of me and I just looked at them last night.

There was one year where this actually happened?! ::worry::

Let's just say that in spite of being a Cornellian, Judy still rides the short bus....
:-P
I'll be there with a recent alum (my cousin). No idea on the seats

Being that the Boston and Ithaca area codes differ by a single middle digit - we need an upright one as our middle digit because that's the way Boston area driver's drive ::screwy:: with an upright middle digit - I wonder if Harvard even notices. Moving from Ithaca to Boston, I often gave out my phone number with the 607 area code. Making it worse was that I actually lived in apartment 607 for several years when I moved here - somebody once asked me if I chose that number specifically because of Cornell - uh, love the school but um, no.

It's still an amazing coincidence. A friend of mine dropped out of Cornell last year and moved to Miami. He now lives on Cayuga Street there. ::nut::
Well, when I was young I lived 5 blocks from Cornell medical school and my mom taught elementary school across from Sloan Kettering which is just up the street from Cornell med. so I walked by the place a lot. Then I moved to LI and my elementary school was at the corner of Marion and Cornell streets. Maybe I have an overactive subconscious. I don't live in apt. 607 anymore but I did move to Brookline which sounds a lot like Brooklyn which if you reverse the syllables as Italian immigrants did in the early 1900's, you get Lynbrook which is where on LI I grew up. My subconscious is now telling me to stop with the coincidences and to remind everyone who's not going to John Harvard's to come to the Cornell Club's reception before the game. Damn, there I go with that Cornell connection again. ::uhoh::
From The Crimson:
http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=356970
best quote of the article:
"Even at home, we'll face adversity in the stands," Grumet-Morris said
[Q]"Any game like this where you know the fans are going to get involved, you have to stay level-headed and not get too pumped up," said junior defenseman Noah Welch. "It's easier said than done for us, because we're used to home games where the crowd doesn't show up until after the first. They're here early and have their band going.[/Q]
Now that's HARSH! Probably not the way to convince more Harvard fans to show up, there, Noah... ::uhoh::
You beat me to that quote Robb.
I read that and did a double-take, wondering if he was talking about visiting fans/band who show up or the Harvard crowd. I didn't think he would bash his own "fans" like that, but I guess he did. Can't say he's lying...
by the way, crodge2k, annedvm, +5, and I will be in Section 13, somewhere in rows D, E, and F.
[Q]If you don't come out and execute, it doesn't matter what you did last night. You're going to get your butt handed to you, just like what happened [last] weekend[/Q]
I think that has potential for a sign....
My group and I are section 14 row D and row F, and sec 15 row D
Does anyone know if Harvard is strict on seating? because my sister has a standing room ticket that I was hoping to squeeze in with us.
The student sections are usually empty because those seats are general admission but the reserved seating sections will be full. You should be able to find a seat at least for the first period. If you sit in the student section, beware of the football players showing up midway through the second period. That's how it has been in the past...not sure if they have changed any other ticket policies for this game besides "the package."
Anyone want to drop their pants with me and show them some real packages? :-P
Will the pep band be at the game on friday night? I know they travel while school is in session, but what about over breaks?
The band will be at both games.
:-D :-D I'll be there... IN the stadium... WATCHING the game IN PERSON :-D :-D
Section 7, Row H, Seat 5. ::yark::
Yeah, right - I'll be standing in/near section 14. :-D
stadium?
Lenard, we're the other group in Section 15, Row D. We'll make sure your sister can squeeze in somewhere. That'll be a really friendly area of the arena where Cornell fans can easily find a chunk of space to stand.
I'll be there with wife (Sherri), daughter (Steph), and Al. We're in 15 C 12-15.

One section to the left of the Cornell bench. I believe the end at which Harvard shoots twice. ::uhoh::
10 degrees at game time; will feel like -5.

Sec 18, Row H, Seat 3.
Yeah, as Al mentioned, it looks like Old Man Winter is RSVPing. From the NWS:
[Q]THE BITTER COLD WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE WEEKEND...ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH. THE COLDEST WIND CHILLS IN THIS EPISODE WILL LIKELY OCCUR EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THE WIND CHILL READINGS ACROSS SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE AND NORTHWEST MASSACHUSETTS WILL DROP TO 25 TO 35 BELOW...AND THE METRO AREAS OF BOSTON... HARTFORD AND PROVIDENCE WILL EXPERIENCE WIND CHILLS OF 15 TO 20 BELOW DURING EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.
TEMPERATURES WILL BE SLOW TO RECOVER SATURDAY...EVEN UNDER MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES...WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES ONLY BETWEEN 5 AND 15 ABOVE. TEMPERATURES WILL PLUMMET AGAIN SATURDAY EVENING...AS THE SUN SETS. BY LATE IN THE EVENING...MOST OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND WILL BE EXPERIENCING TEMPERATURES WITHIN A FEW DEGREES OF ZERO. WITH LESS WIND AND POTENTIALLY MORE EFFICIENT RADIATIONAL COOLING...EARLY MORNING LOW TEMPERATURES ON SUNDAY MAY DROP TO NEAR 20 BELOW ACROSS NORTHWEST MASSACHUSETTS AND SOUTHWEST NEW HAMPSHIRE.[/Q]
Sounds like a good reason to find a warm bar and watch the Rangers beat the Isles :-D
Why is it always FREEZING COLD when we're at lynah east???? I don't think I have any memories of walking from Harvard Sq. to Lynah East and feeling warm B-] , or even feeling not cold . :-(

You need to drink more.
Postgame last year, a bunch of us went to the Hong Kong for Scorpion Bowls. I recommend the same this year.

Ugh. I wish I could recommend the same thing, but the Hong Kong was not good to me last year. Actually, I don't think I've been back since then, but if the Red win, then I guess I'll have to go back...
On an unrelated note, friends of mine have two tickets in section 1 - one in row B and one in row F. Is there anyone else in that section with split tickets that might be able to re-shuffle to get our people closer together?
And did that last sentence even make sense?
Even more impressive in Celsius: High temperature -12, low -19! ::uhoh::
http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USMA0066_c.html
The really scary thing is that I'll be traveling to a warmer spot by going to Boston.
The Burlington forecast:
Friday. Mostly sunny and continued very cold. Highs zero to 5 below. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Friday night. Mostly clear. Lows 15 below to 20 below. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday. Mostly sunny and continued very cold. Highs zero to 5 below. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
The temps didn't make it to positive digits today and won't for the next two days. Not counting windchill.
That's just rude.

Maybe it is time for an outdoor game... right there on the Charles.
Or a good reason to find the warm bed of a procrastinating Harvardite... ;-) Who is going to be my wing man?
sleeping with the enemy? :-P
I'm trying to breed them out... :-P
Okay, everybody, journey safe! Or at least make sure your vocal chords are intact to make some noise tomorrow night and show the country what Lynah East is about **)
You all just stay the hell away from my cousin, you hear?
So many inappropriate comments I could make but I'll refrain...
I have an extra standing room only ticket if anyone wants it. I'll be at John Harvards before the game...send me an email at atb9@cornell.edu if you want it. I think I paid $15 for the two tickets so buy me two beers and you have yourself a ticket (or $7.50)! I'll know exactly how much I paid when I pick them up tomorrow...
gone...to Alex '03...wow, that was fast...I'll be at John Harvards around 5:30 or 6pm...see you all tomorrow!!!
Trying that tonight would get the Harvard attendance to zero..... Too freakin cold!
Yana'n'me, Sec. 24, C 3&4.
Unless of course we sit elsewhere. :-{)}
Beeeej
Is the address of John Harvards 33 Dunster Street? Trying to MapQuest my travels for this weekend...
Can't remember if it's 33, but it's on Dunster, which is a short street, so you'll be able to find it.
Leaving within the next half hour!!!

I hope someone has a sign urging Harvard to balance out the ECAC by moving hockey down to Div III.
Maybe that hits too close to home, since the league's screwed if it loses the actual Div III schools....?
Actually, in retrospect I wish I'd thought of suggesting someone just make a sign that said "WELCOME TO LYNAH EAST" for the TV cameras. (Did the "Cornell Students Takeover Venue" sign make it onto the broadcast?)
Quotetolya '04 wrote:

To be fair, if I remember correctly, Harvard has more varsity teams than any other school in D-1. I think the actual count is somewhere around 55 varsity teams.... ::twitch::
QuoteJohn E Hayes '98 '00 wrote:

I think you're right about having the most varsity D-I sports (just above Cornell at #2 :-( ) but the number I count on the Harvard Athletics site is 37, although I'm sure that doesn't account for club sports not covered by the NCAA such as Ultimate Frisbee and the like.
As far as I know, Ultimate is a club sport at Harvard (and at Cornell - and pretty much everywhere else).
I think the difference between the numbers that you've posted is the difference between teams and sports. Harvard might have 37 distinct varsity sports, and still support 50+ varsity teams. For example, ice hockey is one varsity sport, but two varsity teams. Field hockey and football would each account for one sport and one team.
Didn't see the "venue" sign, but Kenny Albert reported that the Cornell fans were chanting "This is our house" in the last minute or so of the game. You could hear the chant in the background but not really make out the words.
[q]Field hockey and football would each account for one sport and one team.[/q]
For football you have men's football and men's sprint football, counting for two. In rowing, it's three: men's heavyweight, men's lightweight, and women's.
I seem to remember a list of Cornell sports that presented Football and Sprint Football as separate "sports" - although now that I think about it that may have been a list of teams. Doesn't make much sense to me that they would be considered different sports, although I guess there are rules differences. Anyway, lots of weird things like that - I think indoor and outdoor track are considered separate teams, although most of the participants are the same.
