Title: Need help with i2 sports video
Post by: mike \'00 on December 03, 2003, 11:19:24 AM
Dear Faithful,

I never usually post to this forum but with the brown/harvard weekend coming up, I felt it necessary.  I ordered the season pass for the webcasting games and I watched the first W. Michigan game with no problems.  After the log-in name switch, I tried to watch the Ohio State game.  I logged in and clicked OK.  The screen changed to a screen reading- If your browser does not automatically forward to the media, click here.  Or something like that.  Two seconds later, the screen closed out and Internet Explorer also closed out.
I used the i2 sports help desk and the webmaster tried several different things, but none of them worked.  Even when I click on the non-Cornell events at the website, the exact same thing happens.  I must have changed the settings in my computer, but I have no idea what I have done.  I don't know much beyond web surfing, but judging by recent posts on this forum, there are a lot of computer-literate Faithful out there.  I am asking your help to see if somebody can remedy this problem by Friday.  I use Windows 2000 Professional, along w/ Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player 9.0.

Thanks,

Mike '00

Mike'00,

Just wanted to see whether I understood the nature of your problem.  I am not one of the most computer literate people around here, though, so don't know if I'll be of much help.

The steps you took were:
Once you get to the i2sports page, you are following the link for CU hockey v. whoever.  That takes you to the split screen, with the top left being the "Season Ticket Holders: Click to Watch LIVE Video or Archives" link.  When you click on that it takes you to the login page.  I assume that since you talked to tech support that you have your username and pwd right (the "firstname.lastname" username type).  Then it goes to the "automatically loading blah blah blah or click here"?  And then it closes down?  Is that right?

Well, some thoughts that occur to me are:

Are you running any kind of popup blocker or whatever?  That might affect things (I don't think so, though, but it is a thought).  (Similarly, some kind of firewall? If you are on cable connection and don't have some firewall you should probably get one.)
Have you tried clicking on the "click here" link on that reload page?
Did the I2sports support person try giving you the direct address for the feed so that you could just put that in as a URL directly in WMP?  If not, perhaps on the next game you can get into the chat and someone can provide you with it.

You could always try reinstalling IE and WMP and see if that helps.

I'm gonna guess that they suggested that you restart the machine.  This is (unfortunately) windows, after all, the "please restart frequently" software provider.

Well, don't know if that helps, but perhaps we'll get back into a thread talking about your problem instead of a thread about the etymology of the name Mike.

Good luck,
Chris

By the way, am I the only person that has trouble with finding the link for the one-game purchase on the i2sports page?  It isn't that I don't know where the link is, but that it is in a frame that doesn't scroll. It took me a long time to be able to right-size the browser so that enough of the link peeked out that i could click it.

I stared at this entry for the longest time, wondering why you just wrote your own name.

Am I the only person that took some time to figure this out?  ::worry::

I meant to write this also.   I feel like I've contributed something.

I did a double take before figuring out what he meant.  You're not alone.  ::laugh::

Chris,

I disabled my pop-up blocker, but that didn't change anything.  I'm running off of a comcast cable modem, but since the webcast worked the first week, I don't think that is the problem.  All of my other web applications run fine, so I don't think IE is the problem, but the webmaster did throw out as a suggestion that I might have a bug in the IE.
The webmaster sent me the same link that I used the first week to logon with, but that didn't work either.  He logged on my new password and he had no problems.  He is still puzzled and obviously I have no clue what's wrong, either.  The next screen after the login screen is the- If your browser does not automatically forward to the media, click here.  Unfortunately, I can't click on the link.  I can see the WMP open for a second and then everything just closes out.  It's weird.

As for the Mike vs. Michael debate, I really have no preference.  Most people just call me Mike and that's fine.

Though the thing is set up for IE, I was able to find the link to the video using Mozilla Firebird.  You might try going in with a different browser and see if that helps.

I found it using:

http://www.i2sports.com/premium.html which got me around the error message on the main page.

__ EDIT:

I also got there through opera.  Then you can right-click on the video window, copy the address of the feed (after logging in), and then paste that into the URL part of WMP.

I tried using AOL's browser but the same thing happened, where the WMP window opened for a second (I saw the Jiffy Lube/TCTC ads) and then the browser inexplicably closed out.  There must be something wrong with the settings on my computer but I have no idea what it is.

mike, I've got the same basic set up here as you (win2k pro + IE + wmp9.0) and no problem with getting a feed.

Side note for the rest of ya: anyone watched this off a dsl line? I'm attempting to watching one of the archived games and the audio comes thru fine but the picture doesn't always move... at least I can't see those nasty Mercyhurst uniforms. Only other time I watched this was when I had a cable modem but I hate Comcast too much and went back to dsl.

I'm having the same problem now with the archived games using the hated Comcast.  Audio's fine but seeing a sort of stop-action picture every two or three seconds but no motion after the first second-and-a-half.  Live broadcasts have been fine up to now as have the archives.

new twist.  apparently the windows media player is the problem. i rolled back the 9.0 to the default program (I believe its a 5.0).  My computer won't allow me to delete the entire windows media folder.  I logged on with the 5.0 and it got me through to the archives page.  I couldn't watch the games it appears simply because i2sports doesn't run on 5.0.  I then downloaded a new 9.0 from microsoft and tried watching the games. the same thing happened where it closed out.  i tried watching any video on wmp 9.0 and it closed out, too. How do I fix this now that I think wmp 9.0 is the problem.

Thanks,

Mike

Try 7.1

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/playerV7.aspx

My 9.0 worked fine under WinXP PRO.

I'm now working fine again with WMP 9.0 and XP Home.  Don't know what the problem was on Wednesday, but the i2sports site was down for awhile yesterday.

I've noticed i2 having intermittent problems with archives, I think they are still ironing out bugs.

For that matter, the camera didn't actually come up on last week's game until a few minutes before game time, but the audio was fine and I think the feed itself was coming through, it was just operator error at the rink.

Whatever.  They're still batting higher than the first year of the paid radio feed, with (presumably) more complex tech issues to sort.

Though they claim to have been doing this since '99. I think they need a better iron.

Yeah I watched the CU-OSU game live on a Verizon DSL 1.5Mbps connection.  No major problems, although it did get stuck once and just required me to stop the feed and restart it.
