Eh. This is just a list of annual contenders and Dartmouth. UConn had a similar record and finished behind us in polling. That is to say, they A. Don't know Jack B. None of this Matters.

Yeah this is basically the same list as every year just with dartmouth lmaooo
1. Denver (but it's an even year)
2. Chokers with a loaded roster
3. Team that is the only thing decent about studying in North Dakota
4. Chokers with a loaded roster, green variant
5. Actually really scary this year
6. Quinnipiac is unfortunately still good
7. WMU is still here they won two years ago
8. Obligatory Boston school stonks
9. Runners up last year
10. HEA stonks
11. Guys did you know Dartmouth is good now?!?
12. More HEA stonks
13. Even more HEA stonks
14. The Gophers are gonna be good eventually right
15. Obligatory Boston school stonks, darker red variant
The fact that we're not on here when teams like BU and BC, who missed the dance, are is really funny.
Work in silence.

We know how this works. Pre-season polls are always based on reputation, because of course there are no results yet. Some of these teams will make the tournament and some of them won't. In fairness, in a lot of years, Cornell also benefits from a reputation push, albeit not this year, but that's fine. Yes, none of this matters, but we need something to talk about in August, so here we are.
These rankings are meant to predict the future by taking into account incoming/outgoing players. It's perfectly reasonable to expect a team that missed the NCAAs to be really good next season, for example. The rankings aren't ridiculous on their face.
Rather, the issue with these rankings is that I see no reason to believe "College Hockey NXT" is a reputable source. Who, or what, is College Hockey NXT? There's no name (or list of names) on their website. You'd think a site predicting commitments and team outcomes, and ranking recruiting classes, would be run by a former coach or scout or someone involved in college hockey in some way, but there's literally no indication (that I can find) that this website isn't run by a random kid. The emojis are a dead giveaway that this source is not to be taken seriously.

Anyone can start a twitter feed and proclaim themselves experts and put out a ranking. Bear Lover could even try it if he wants. So we agree for a change.

Ha! Hey, when you started CHN, you already had a 'name' in the college hockey world and a record to speak of. You had earned respect already. As far as we know, "collegepucknxt" has none of that. Maybe someday that will be the case with them, but not today.

CPNxt is really on the ball with commitments and stuff. It's why I keep their post notifications on for Twitter.

13 points in this poll is impressive.
The coaches each rank 1st (11 pts) to 11th (1 pt), not including their own team.
Yale's 13 is probably two 10ths + nine 11ths.
Cornell's 102 is probably three 2nds + eight 3rds. Assuming Qpc and Drt each ranked us 2nd, somebody ranked us above Drt (Q's 120 has to be ten 1sts + one 2nd; therefore Drt's 110 is most likely two 1sts, eight 2nds, and one... 4th.
It's fun that the prediction is:
1. Q's current coach
2. Q's future coach
3. Clk's former coach
4. Clk's current coach
From CHN preview blurb:
"Cornell — The Big Red lost goalie Alexis Cournoyer to the transfer portal, then replaced him with the even more experienced Mathis Rosseau from Maine. Cornell loses a couple big names, but forward Ryan Walsh returning for his senior year is huge."
Anyone know who that goalie is, any good? Anyways think this will be a year with 20+ wins due to ECAC weaker now overall and our OOC being mostly AH but we will then have to make a run in the postseason - see you all in DC!

Rousseau?
Scouting Report:
Sophomore
Comes from UMaine
Played in the Q before college (bonus points from me)
Split starts with the other Maine goalie last year
Didn't do GREAT (I think .895 sv% and -4 GSAx) but also Cournoyer had like, a 1.5 GSAx over his year here so it's probably a sidegrade
Small (5'11")
Will probably deliver the good ol League Average Goaltending we need
Especially bc our d-structure is way better than Maine's
Would not expect significantly more but if it happens I will be delighted
From ESPN:
Arizona State hockey coach Greg Powers has been placed on paid administrative leave days after several members of his team asked the university to remove him pending an investigation into a teammate's collapse, the university announced Wednesday.
"After thorough and careful deliberation, I believe this is the best move to provide stability for the hockey program," Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini said in a statement.
Powers could not be reached Wednesday. He repeatedly declined to answer reporters' questions about Mayich's collapse during a news conference last week.
In their letter to the school sent Monday, seven hockey players detailed the Aug. 20 workout in which defenseman Matthew Mayich collapsed, disputed the findings of the university's review, and asked the school to place all staff responsible for the workout on administrative leave.
ASU program might end after this family is rightfully done suing them...
College hockey writer Brad Schlossman left Cornell off his top 20 preseason rankings. Schlossman is very knowledgable about college hockey but it's nonsensical for one person to rank 64 teams.

It will be interesting to see just how quickly and vehemently ASU flips from "nothing to see here, keep those donor dollars flowing" to "terrible tragedy caused by one bad apple ignoring our excellent oversight procedures, and we have cauterized the wound. Now more than ever we need those donor dollars flowing."
I think we'll be good this year. I don't know why everyone is acting like Rousseau is some midget who's a total bum. He played for canadas world junior team and is the same height as many goalies who we've made look real good in the past. I think he has a save percentage around .920.

I'm sure he'll do well with us! I'm not saying he's a midget or a bum. Just that he's shorter than Cournoyer (and short for a goalie), and that his results last year were so-so (but part of it can be attributed to the team he was on). I think .910 is a reasonable aspiration; if he hits .920 it's DC season.
Sezenack's data suggested he was a below average goalie last year after accounting for the team he was on. He had a slightly negative goals saved ahove expected. (I don't know where this data comes from or how accurate it is; are people actually mapping every shot, including type of shot, that every college goalie faces, and it's all publicly available?)
