Not shaping up as strong OOC
Quote from: arugula on May 20, 2026, 04:37:05 PMNot shaping up as strong OOC
I mean so far we have SHU, who are paying us back for our visit in 24-25, and Omaha, who we're paying back for our games last year. Again, I still think Omaha is a sneaky team that would be really good in a weaker conference, they just have the misfortune of playing in the NCHC. :')
I think we'll get one or two good OOC series to make up for it, though.

We should have at least one extra game this year, plus two more if they make a trip to Alaska. I'm curious about MSG this year. I hope they can get someone good for that one.
Was there rumours of us going up to Alaska?

Cornell has made a reciprocal trip to the home arena of most of the OOC teams that visit Lynah Rink. Since they played Alaska last season, it's possible that they will make a trip to The Last Frontier at some point. NCAA rules used to allow a team that traveled to Alaska to add two extra games to the already allowed max, to encourage teams to go up there, but I'm not sure if that still stands.

It does still stand. Whether the Ivy League allows that is a different story.

I haven't heard anything, but we owe them a visit. Whether that's this year or not, TBD. I don't see a great spot in the schedule for it - I'd have suggested the Jan 1/2 weekend, but that's likely Omaha.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Omaha announcement. I'll say this another dozen times, but for everyone who ever visits Omaha, go to the zoo.
I would think UMass will have a return visit to Lynah but maybe not this coming season since Cornell had two OOC home series last season and so I'd think they would go on the road for another OOC series to a team other than Omaha.
In (distant) past years I would be able to get the non-travel partner part of the ECAC schedule the fall before the season. And I was allowed to post it around January 1.
But with the new administration that has not been possible,
I've sent another email to see if it might have changed.
Note that my "count" has 29 games already, not counting exhibition or scrimmage. I truthfully can't recall how many regular season games the Ivies are allowed to play - I think we upped it to 30? Maybe? With exhibition?

It's 30 regular season, but was part of the deal that you are limited to no more than 1 exhibition? (I think that was the speculation on why Cornell played 29 last season -- because they wanted the 2nd exhibition?)

they played 29 last year because they didn't have time to schedule another game. not sure if exhibition amount has been changed. two separate issues I believe.

Alaska also came to Ithaca in 21-22 so who knows whether we reciprocate them considering that they spend an insane amount of time travelling anyway.

Nothing on MSG's website yet. Occasionally they have it before anyone else, though probably not intentionally on Cornell's part.

I'm going to assume that home weekend will be in October when the students are around since the Omaha away series is in January and the team started on the road last year at UMass. I'm surprised it isn't a UMass reciprocal visit but I'll take a rare BU visit to Lynah.

Sacred Heart's hockey schedule is out and they're at Lynah 10/30-31, which would mean BU/Merrimack is likely in January. Huge missed opportunity there if so unless that series is in December, which I doubt it will be.

You folks should get an allocation once the game is publicly announced. I'm sure Maine's atheletics department will share ticketing details in the official communications. As with any event at MSG, it's ultimately through the venue but tickets aren't hard to get.

For reference, I got my student tickets about 3 days before the event... Maine will be a tough sell, so tickets should be available.
Can anyone get me an official source on the BU, Merrimack, and Maine games?

Purchased through MSG but Maine will have a code that allows you to purchase tickets in one of the Black Bears sections.

Coach Casey told me.
"Coach Casey told me"
We got people with sources! Who are 'ya, Snowball?
No, sorry to disappoint you but no Deep Throat in the hockey office. Coach Casey couldn't pick me out of a lineup. My daughter's at Cornell for an MEng, and I did run into Casey during Reunion weekend and chatted with him for a bit. Super friendly guy and so upbeat. That Canadian charm...
That said, I do have a friend-of-a-friend local connection to the program, so every now and then a small nugget of information drifts my way.
Actually I just remembered an interesting thing he told a group of us - hockey practice was changed to the mornings before classes, I think he said 7. He says it works much better for the team with their academics. Oh yeah and he or Schaefer said that they thought the team with the new additions was going to be deeper than last year. So a lot to look forward to! Go Big Red.

Yeah, my post was more in response to Trotsky's comment about road trips. It's basically the opposite of last season where the majority of games in January were at home.

In favor of there being a 2026 Frozen Apple (ie even-year) MSG game: There is nothing else scheduled at MSG for Thanksgiving Saturday (if you see the Rockettes, unclick all the MSG properties until you only have the MSG main arena). Trying to think of how many times a Home & Home stretches beyond back to back years to H&H over three years and, if ever, over 4 years. There has to be an agreement at least between coaches / athletic directors that the teams play at both schools.
So am confused, are there any more OOC games to be announced yet for this season

That season's national championship game beat that by a few hundred (https://www.collegehockeynews.com/box/final/20250412/wmu/bu_/) but it's still an impressive number.
The Rangers are pretty likely to have an afternoon game that day once the NHL schedule comes out.
True but that's usually the case. Ranger game in the afternoon, Cornell game at night. Of course it's happening.
I can confirm from a reliable UMaine hockey source that they will play in the Frozen Apple this year. Although I do not have a date I assume the traditional...
If you figure 2 exhibition games in October before the 2 against Sacred Heart, then add in the pair against Merrimack and BU, plus the 11 on the schedule already, that's 17 home games. which is the usual not including possible quarterfinal hosting. So add in Maine, the pair at Omaha and that probably rounds it out.

Was coming to post same. :)
When was the last time the final games before winter break were non conference? Those are usually ECAC games that first weekend in December.

I think the last time was Denver at home several years ago. It was bound to happen again at some point given when matches usually occur with some teams

I don't know about anyone else but I don't go to the games to watch the opponent play. Senior night is special regardless of the opponent or result for that matter. Come to all of the games!!
(But if you only plan to come to one BU should be a good one!)

I think a lot of people are only able to come for say, 3 weekends a year - with that in perspective, it makes sense you might want to choose an opponent that's more entertaining, like BU.
RIT's schedule lists them at Lynah on Dec. 5. (https://ritathletics.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/schedule/2026-27)

Location. Colgate/Cornell as a pair is very common. Iirc BU is doing Cornell/Colgate (https://goterriers.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/schedule/2026-27) that weekend too, so it makes sense.
Updated and did a little color coding to boot.
Would anyone be opposed to me putting the game results into the schedule like, by the Wednesday after each game weekend?
2 games VS NCHC
3 games VS AHA
2 games VS Hockey East
Did I miss any? Not shabby, but I would have liked to see one B1G 10 or CCHA game. Alas, only so many OCCs to spread around.

Plus, B1G and CCHA are harder for travel more generally.
Not too bad of an OOC schedule. Personally I'm pleased we do our first weekend against SHU - since we're Classically Behind On Games Played, a (generally) weak opponent to start will be nice instead of walking ass backwards into UMass or some shit.
BU is awesome, UMaine will be great too. Omaha ofc we pay them back, RIT is a tradition it feels like.

One of Rochester and Rensellaer is very offended by this. Probably Rochester, home of my favorite accent.

Merrimack bailed out on the game for unclear reasons that didn't make anyone happy. So I doubt they're scheduled for anything at the moment.

I would love if we scheduled RIT more often. Their student section could go up against the best of the east in terms of passion and creativity, honestly. BU, UNH, Maine, Vermont, Clarkson, RPI, and us.
