Title: Worcester Regional (Mar. 26 & 28)
Post by: Beeeej on March 26, 2026, 10:03:08 AM
Hoping for a UConn vs. Dartmouth regional final on Saturday, but will probably be too busy at Isaac's birthday party anyway. All other factors aside, I can't say I'm disappointed to be in a Friday/Sunday regional this year.

Also, ain't it nice to get to the time of year where other game results don't affect our NPI, they only determine our potential future opponents?

It's awesome to close the NPI page and open the bracket one 🥰

Did they say this would be the first NCAA win for Dartmouth in SEVENTY SEVEN YEARS? First... national title, right?

No, they last won a semifinal (back when the field was four teams) back in 1949, and have never won the national title nor won an NCAA tournament game since.

Holy shit. I could've sworn they were decent in the 60s or 70s, maybe just in ECAC play.

I agree with that call - he had a clear shot to the goal and got hooked. We were robbed of similar consideration - what should've been an automatic goal awarded, not just a Penalty shot, since the net was empty at the time - late in our season, and I still don't understand why. Obviously it didn't affect the outcome, but still.

My stream is mostly down, I'm just going off the box score sadly.

That feels like it's happened SEVERAL times in the past few weeks in college hockey and they refuse to call the PS/AG.

A fair cop. But I also think that the broadcaster's statement can be fairly understood to mean a victory in an NCAA tournament elimination game.

Even MSU's coach Nightingale said UConn was the better team on the ice today. Not sure I'd go that far - I think he's trying to be a sportsman - but they sure did enough to get it done if Augustine hadn't stood on his head.

The shot totals were like 40 to 25 and UConn had five or six powerplays. If you don't run into the world's hottest goalie, you pot 3 or 4 goals and win handily. Augustine had at least three separate saves of the game to keep MSU in it.

So there's no SOG counter anywhere at the arena (which is a WTF moment). Based on pure in-person observation, I had no idea UConn outshot MSU that much. UConn definitely blocked more shots, but Sparty was clearly the bigger and faster team. They beat out the race to the dots on icing at least a half dozen times and manhandled UConn players off the puck repeatedly.

I think he got away with it because it ahem "slipped" out of his hand, and the deflection was not direct it was off the post.  Arthur will know the rule down to the agate type and remember 7 examples.

The game is on ESPN+ if you can access that.
Does not appear on the menu.  Can you pass me the link?

It's on my plus when I search on hockey but once I click on the game, the app asks for cable sign in.

Yup, that's what I get too.  Boo.

The content providers have not figured out how to sever themselves from the cable crooks.

I couldn't get it there without signing into Spectrum.

That's often the case for me

And I didn't try to sign in because I don't pay for ESPN U. If it goes to OT I'll try.

I don't get ESPNU on cable either, so you should be able to login with your Spectrum login and watch the games.

Weird crap for me.  I'm able to watch on my phone by signing into Spectrum but when I try to cast it to my TV it tells me I have to pay for a better plan.

Watching on the phone and confused as to why it's working.

Dartmouth looked awful, they had incredible luck (Wisco hit 5 posts) and still lost soundly. They created almost zero chances in the 40 or so minutes I saw.

Quinnipiac still the only ECAC school to have actual success in the NCAA tournament in recent times (since 2017).

IIRC it worked with just ESPN+ last year.

No, they last won a semifinal (back when the field was four teams) back in 1949, and have never won the national title nor won an NCAA tournament game since.
Holy shit. I could've sworn they were decent in the 60s or 70s, maybe just in ECAC play.

Dartmouth was pretty bad for most of that time.

4-team NCAA Tournament for 30+ years. The only way to make it was to reach the championship game of the ECAC Tournament. Unless you were 1978 BU.

Some games are on plus and some on U. They are separate subscriptions.

As I posted earlier, I don't have U in my package but was able to watch today's Dartmouth U game on my phone.  There was an apparent error as I couldn't get it to come up on the "smart" app on the TV even when the phone casting to TV was chosen.

Others can try this.  I have Spectrum but not the sports add on that includes ESPN U.

I was also able to watch the game archived. Haven't tried to watch the women's championship yet tonight.  I couldn't watch it on Sunday nor the archive when attempting from the ESPN app on my TV.  I didn't try the phone Sunday.

You don't consider any of the Cornell results in the last 4 years success? The teams have thrilled me with wins over favored teams from Denver, Maine and MSU! Yes, the next rounds has been frustrating, but sometimes being there is more than half the battle. We were IN all of the Regional Finals and came up short.

All that's telling me is we're one of the top 8 teams in the country pretty consistently.

Which, ya know. Is pretty damn good.

Good 3rd period between MSU & UW, but the level of B10 entitlement from the broadcast crew is gross. Also 2006 talk...

Wisconsin just erased a 2-goal deficit and MSU just called for embellishment to match a rough. 3 minutes left in regulation.

Wisconsin moved on, so Vegas got a little more fun for those going. 2nd straight year MSU didn't advance out of the regional as a 1 seed.

I was gonna suggest we call him Trey Augusieve but he does have two gold WJC medals... so.

Wisconsin making it out is fucking hysterical though. Easily the easiest bracket to be in as the 1 seed.

My understanding is that Wisconsin demonstrated the talent to go far this season in flashes but were very inconsistent. It seems like they're peaking at the right time, although their goaltending is probably weak. As for MSU, one could argue that they should've lost to UConn

Or the 1966 BU team that lost to us in the semis and got to go to the NCAAs instead of us.
