Title: Women to Lake Placid - 2026
Post by: RichH on February 28, 2026, 05:24:26 PM
First time the ECAC Women's Tournament has its final weekend in Lake Placid, and Cornell just punched their ticket.

This deserves a thread. With the correct year.

Quinnipiac and Princeton won their Game 3s, so they will meet in one semi and Cornell gets Yale in the other, I believe.

Minnesota-Duluth got knocked out of the WCHA playoffs by Minnesota State, so that possibly makes the race for the last at-large NCAA bid a bit more interesting, though I don't feel like seeing how it affects Cornell's chances right now. Maybe later tonight.

LET'S GO RED!!

Yale rocking a very Penn St. grey look instead of home white. "Bulldogs" across the front. Never seen a Yale team go so non-traditional.

Love when I turn on the game four minutes late and we're winning.

He's anointed himself "Mr. ECAC." Very little energy after the pre-game comments. Mumble gravel mumble.

Apparently he calls Ingalls "The Whale Tail," (not "the Yale Whale" like the rest of the world) thus demonstrating his credibility. Ugh.

Pierre is one of the best things about this broadcast IMO. Audio is behind the video feed. Penalty time not displayed on screen. Also, why take these games off campus? Women's hockey does not have a large enough following for a neutral tournament to make sense.

Start of the 2nd, 2-1 Yale. Yale took over the rest of the first, leading in faceoffs, shots, and goals. Both Yale goals were off rebound scrambles.

I'm confused how this got approved in the first place. The atmosphere at Lynah last year was great. It wouldn't be great at most other rinks, but still should be better than a largely empty arena like what we have here. Plus less travel for teams and fans...?

The players get a better experience in LP, and their families probably enjoy the resort atmosphere

4-1. Passes aren't connecting, and Yale is having their way with possession time.

Yale's coach was singing the praises of having it there during his intermission interview. The players probably prefer it, and the league officials can plan better for the banquet, media sessions, and other events. I see at least one youth team in the stands, probably more. I believe the locals will make a nice showing for the Final and the attendance will beat any on-campus number. It's a good showcase for women's hockey tbh.

I don't care that much, but it feels good.

Cornell gives up a 2-on-0 shorthanded goal. Comeback hopes fading.

We beat them 3-0 at Lynah on Halloween, lost 3-1 at Ingalls in Jan. and are down 5-2 today. Yale has improved mightily.

OK, fair enough. Sad to lose out on a great environment just to play in an empty arena. Same argument re: on-campus regionals for the men, but even more pronounced.

Yale adds an empty net goal with about five minutes to play and an even strength goal with about five seconds to go. 7-2 final.

My go-to is to upload it to imgbb and get the bbcode from that.

Like this (you can quote to see it) - (https://i.ibb.co/vv4hQ5fG/IMG20260228143049.jpg) (https://ibb.co/5xhknDCy)

I think there's a size limit on "native" uploads which is hella annoying.

Yes. I am constantly having to resize my (native) images to 40% or 60% before uploading.

Just saw the attached post on Facebook, which makes it sound like the women's season is over. They are currently 11th in NPI, and 11 teams make the tournament. I'm not following women's hockey closely enough to know if there is now an autobid guaranteed for a team that is outside the top 11, but if that's not the case the women still have a shot at making the tourney, right?

Actually I can't attach the image for the same reason ACM couldn't. I receive an error message about the upload directory being full. My image is already a .JPG, and a small one at that. The Facebook post was titled. "Incredible Season. Incredible People." It included a photo of the women likely celebrating the first goal at Lake Placid.

It appears that the winner of the NEWHA tournament gets an autobid, and both the teams playing for that are outside the top 11. So I guess the Cornell women's season actually is over.

Which Yale grey jersey looks Civil War Grey from a distance, more silvery up close. But blue and white is so commonplace. Google AI:

>>> Blue is the most popular college uniform color, preferred by 38% of schools, followed by white (23%) and red (15%). Classic, iconic combinations like Blue/Orange/White, Crimson/White, and Light Blue/Gold are highly regarded in football.
Key Findings on Popular Uniform Colors:
Top Colors: Blue leads in popularity for school uniforms, with white and red also being top choices. [emphasis add]
Iconic Combinations:
Blue/White/Gold: UCLA and Penn State are noted for these classic combinations.
Blue/Orange: Florida Gators and Boise State.
Crimson/Red & White: Alabama, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
Burnt Orange/White: Texas Longhorns.
Black/Red: Texas Tech. [<-- and some Cornell home football unis]
Other Notable Colors: Green is trending for its modern, eco-friendly feel, with Oregon frequently cited for its, and Tulane having, popular green, note Colorado State as well.
Trending Colors: While not a school color, gray, silver, and anthracite are increasingly used for alternate, modern looks, note this SportsLogos.Net Forum post (https://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/119943-the-best-greysilver-uniforms/).

1818   2026 semifinals Lake Placid
1463   2025 semifinals Lynah Rink (1870 finals game Saturday)

Turnout would have been better if a North Country team, Clarkson or St. Lawrence, was a semifinalist. It would have been less than 1,000 Friday if Cornell wasn't the ECAC finals weekend.

The other three teams in the semifinals would rather it be at a neutral site.

Going to LP is a Good of the Game thing, put women more on par with the men. Albany is the geographic center of the ECAC schools but the excitement factor isn't the same.

I'm okay with Lake Placid. We almost went up this weekend, but we have a came outside LP we like to check in on and a son up in Canton: Having other things to do is good as insurance in case your team doesn't make the Saturday finals. This weekend there is the Bobsled & Skeleton North American Cup.

Pierre McGuire has to be one of the most visible and famous Hobart College graduates. So support Upstate New York celebrities. That said, tThe production seemed to be cost-contrained. I think I only saw two cameras in use, plus the camera under the scoreboard. Were our trio of announcers really sitting in the balcony, across from the cameras that were in the press box? The sound and video were out of sync by a second or two. There was something I said to Gwen like "the game is getting out of hand" and three seconds later Pierre echoed me. Also, the period break player / coach interviews in front of the angled step-and-repeat backdrop were really awkward. Not every player is comfortable on camera but here, nobody was, several were fiddling with their headsets.

Okay, let's see how it goes in year 2 and 3, if it's a multi-year contract. Yale and Princeton are getting hot, we all want the ECAC to succeed, etcetera.

Maybe RPI can send its TV crew up there and show how it's done.

Quinnipiac wins the ECAC AQ, 5-1 against Yale, and with ECAC teams at 7-8-9 in the NPI will be interesting to see how the bracket shapes up if they want to avoid an intra-ECAC matchup in the first round.
