Title: random ticket question?
Post by: upprdeck on February 04, 2026, 12:01:14 PM
What made the Colgate game become a sellout?  Are they suddenly traveling in droves this year to Lynah?

the final 2 home games have 100s left.

I would expect Colgate to be a sellout almost every season? It's the only game that weekend, it's against a "rival," it involves throwing things on the ice. A sellout really should not be impressive given we sold out most games a few years ago.

I think we should throw things on the ice every game if it ensures a sellout, LOL

We already do so with the newspapers. So clearly we need to throw more stuff!

Trying to answer the question, I think it was multiple things.

We have been playing well with good chance of top 4 in ECAC and good chance for the NCAAs.

It's the only home game for a stretch.

So for the occasional fan, they say that it looks like a good team and I should see them sometime.

The only game after Harvard for weeks is 'gate. Better try for tickets if I want to see a game this year.

For the occasional fan who went to Dartmouth +/- Harvard. Wow that was fun, let's try another game.

For the occasional fan, I doubt 'gate as a rival means much. It means much more to 'gate fans than to ours. They don't really have another natural rival.

And I'll go back to my main reason, the team is good and they are winning. If they get at least 3 out of the next 4, I suspect we may be talking the same about the last 2 games, especially Senior Night.

Then we need to see what happens in the playoff games. Traditionally those haven't been the most well attended.

Time will tell, but let's hope.

Do you think playoff tickets will be hard to get?

About the Cornell at Colgate game: That was repeatedly declared a sellout by the TV announcer and you could see hundreds of empty seats. Which the announcer said is because so many ticket holders are up along the railing. I wonder if Colgate has become like Harvard and the host school would rather not sell last-minute tickets if it means more Cornell fans show up.

If they stay in a bye position, they will end up playing the same weekend as the Ivy League basketball tournament.  That's not going to be fun battling that event.  When is spring break?  That also impacts ticket availability if the students are or aren't going to be around.

Spring Break is March 28 to April 5. So that has a big impact if we're bound for the Sweet Sixteen or Final Four. Right now we're one of four teams tied for third to sixth place in the Ivies. Was about to say, "Be nice to finish not just fourth and make the tournament but third and avoid the Ivy one-seed (sort of like it would be nice to not have to play Quinnipiac in the ECAC hockey semifinals) ... except right now Harvard and Yale are both 6-2, tho Yale appears to be the better team.

Not likely to be a problem. Rarely close to a sellout, see below. It's interesting that some season ticket holders do not pick on playoff tickets.

Lynah Attendance Playoff
Yr   Opp  Fri   Sat  Sun
24   Hvd 4267  4267
23   Clk 3752  3935
22   Cgt 3550  4034  2735
19   Uni 3892  4159

So rarely are Playoff tickets hard to get.
