Title: Cornell Mac users rejoice! (I2sports related)
Post by: DeltaOne81 on November 08, 2003, 02:54:26 AM
MS just released (tonight, probably 1.5 years after the Windows version) Windows Media Player 9 for OS X. I tested it on the I2sports archive streams and they work!

Download from here:

I'd still rather they do a more available format, but since most Linux users probably dual boot with Windows, hopefully everyone can view it. Except OS 8, 9 users I suppose... but what the heck are you doing running that? ;-)

Personally, I kinda doubt that (at least, not dual booting on the same machine--they might have a separate Linux box and Windows station, perhaps the latter at work), but I can't speak for all Linux users.  Maybe I shouldn't even talk, since I haven't run a Linux distro for real in a few years.

Okay, I dunno... but they *can*, for a max of $99, or whatever Windows goes for these days. And 3/4 of people can probably get their hands on a copy for free. So there's no reason that anyone *can't* view Cornell hockey online now while still running their platform of choice... woohoo!

True enough, but I'm fairly sure most people are still going to want to view Cornell hockey online in the OS they choose to use when on their own time, whether it be some version of Windows, some version of MacOS, some distro of Linux, or something else entirely.

I didn't watch tonight because I couldn't figure out how to buy just one game; last week it seemed pretty obvious, but I couldn't find a link for a single game purchase this week.  I'm not going to pay for the entire season if they can just pull the carpet out from under my Linux workaround at any time, so if I can't pay for single games, I'm simply not going to watch.  Any clues?

Cheers,
Kyle

This weekend was away games, which AFAIK are not part of the i2sports package.

BTW, what is your workaround?  mplayer?

Home games only.  Try again in two weeks, Kyle.

No doubt. I said, I'd still like them to offer an alternative stream in WMV2, which VideoLAN Client (available for about 15 OSes... okay, maybe 10) can play... as opposed to WMV3, which ONLY Windows Media Player 9, can play.

Still, there's a big difference between having to dual boot and having to buy a second computer. Due to no effort on their part, the I2sports situation is now at least minimally acceptable/accessible to everyone.

No, xine.  For some reason, I can't get mplayer to stream WMV9.  But xine does it just fine with the proper .dll's installed.

Cheers,
Kyle

That sucks!  Oh, well; at least I'll get the ones with the big Cornell contingent.  Or, at least half of them, anyway. :)

Cheers,
Kyle
