But - but - they "need these high grades".
The comment that they had to work hard in high school, so they thought they could get to Harvard and just be an intellectual had me wondering what planet they live on.
But it'll make the "grade inflation" cheer that much more effective next weekend.
Anyone know if the band is going to the games this weekend? I forget if they travel to away ECAC games during football season.

Usually the pep band doesn't travel to hockey games during football season. I'm hoping they can put together an alumni pep band for Lynah East.

In principle, I have sympathy towards this view. Grading is the conveyor belt that presses down on mediocre minds to make them cogs in the business-engineering industrial complex of our NYT/Stephen Colbert era cleverocracy. It's very, very dumb. I know this because I did more splendidly than any of you, and I am an idiot.
But. I'd be
a lot more sympathetic if the vast majority of these little fucks didn't spend their post-grad lives at McKinsey or Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
I am
all for the rest of us muggles working ourselves to death to support the .01% of artists, poets, and philosophers who redeem the grasping toadies of humanity and make us more than vain, vicious murder monkeys. We have nothing to offer; they do. In 1000 years the only person who will be remembered from our grand Western Fuckwit era (1800-2100), favorably anyway, will be Kant.
But these asshats aint Kant. They're just another herd of Zuckerbergs. So the least these shrimps can do is earn their marks. Appeal rejected.

While I have some sympathy, saying that you had no ides that the system is exactly as you describe is extremely naive. Life is brutish and short, and getting into Harvard or any other university is not going to change that, unless you are in the 0.01% that are gifted athletes. So AFAIC, "They should have known the job was dangerous when they took it."
And just for fun I don't think herd is the right collective noun for Zuckerbergs. Maybe a "greed of Zuckerbergs" or a "steal of zuckerbergs" is more appropriate. ;D

Poor Sophie. 2 months in and sooo stressed. In my day at Cornell, when we were told "Look Left, Look Right, one of you three won't be at graduation, Sophie would have been the one. Now, I am sure that with counselling and extra support, she will graduate on time with a lowly 3.6 GPA. I think a similar result would also happen at Cornell now

they are the ones who will feel the most robbed by the change and also the ones most likely to not realize they should not put their names in the newspaper.
that said, i really benefitted from going to a law school where there was a very weak curve as opposed to a college where the effort you put in paid off.
I'm very high on Harvard this year so should be a good game. Lot of returners and a great freshman class. Will make it all the more fun to beat them.

ESPN has game time at 8 / Cornell website says 7. We shall see.
Edit: no I am an idiot. ESPN uses the user's local time and says "5" which is actually now +2 = 7, not +3 = 8, because everybody else slid their time an hour back while AZ stood still.
Gonna take a while to get used to that.

Long 30 seconds in penalty. Nice.
Great kill including a breakaway by Walsh and then some good looks on pp #1.
Love Ashton's willingness to put it on net as soon as he gets an opening from the point on the PP. He created a couple of good rebound chances in quick succession.
Interesting to think of how many years, as players and coaches, that Casey Jones and Ted Donato have faced off against each other. Rivals from '87!
3 straight Harvard minors.
I don't think "Kwah-STAHG-Na" is in the pronunciation guide :o

North of the 37th parallel, we like having the sun rise not too late in the winter and not too early in the summer.
Living in Vermont at nearly the 45th parallel, I whole heartedly agree. Taking my dog out on local trails at 5:30AM and still having it dark over an hour later w/ DST let alone having it dark when the kids get on the bus is not fun. At the same time, with longer daylight in the summer, DST let's us play golf, do yard work, etc after work and have high school soccer games at small schools with no lights.
When was the last time Cornell had three clean breakaways in the same league game? Castagna exploded out of the zone when he smelled that opportunity. He was so far ahead he had time to settle it down and take a look around. I was thinking they needed to spend the week working on their breakaway decisions until he burried that one. What a beast he was last night. He had the three best non breakaway chances of the first period. I thought that if he had gotten the same wood on the first one that he chipped over the net that he got on the other two he would have scored. His first goal was a thing of beauty. One of my favorite plays of the night was when Ryan pulled the puck into his skates with the defender right in his face and still smoked that one off the Harvard goalie that rebounded right to DiGiulian. For my money Ryan is their most skilled player. He finds ways to make something out of nothing and it's starting to show up on the score sheet. Long had a nice night after the early penalty of using his size to let people know he's out there. Cournoyer was so poised once again. Must be he didn't know that was a rivalry game and he was supposed to be nervous. He overplayed the goal he gave up but the rest of the night he was in position and let the game come to him. So much to like about a developing team.
