Brown has had an up and down season so far. They beat an at the time top 10 FCS ranked U of Rhode Island team early in the season, but are looking for their 1st Ivy win today after going 3-0 in out of conference games. As they showed they can do last week, Cornell must limit giving the ball away on offense, and hopefully continue to rely on the rushing attack.
7-6 Brown after a gig 43 Brown pass completion. Cornell another missed an extra point attempt on their TD and it's almost deflating the momentum. The loss of regular kicker Alan Zhao is big. There has to be another kicker to try at this point.
Cornell run defense has been incredible but the pass defense is appalling. After a great TD drive (missed XP), Cornell gave up a TD to fall behind 7-6.
Brown tried an onside kick that went right to Kurtz. Good news he has great hands. Bad news, he got drilled in the sternum and is slow getting up. Would have been great field position but for the roughing the passer call on the TD moving up the kickoff.
Good news. Kurtz still in. Cornell has the ball beat midfield.

Not going to win this game giving up two 40 yard plus pass completions.
more grotesque pass defense gets brown into the red zone but a great series of downs forces a FG. 10-6, 7:21 left in the first half.
Big Red drive has Cornell inside the 5, 4th and 1. Critical play coming...
Real stupid play. Play action, incomplete. We've been running it down Brown throats all day.
More Cornell pass defense. 50 yards in the air to a guy being double-covered and he still makes the catch because Cornell DBs never have the faintest idea where the ball is.

I'm astounded at how often football coaches can't see what's in front of them.
Cornell with a tip drill goal line interception with 3 seconds left in the half to keep the deficit at 4 going in to halftime.

Trying to "out smart" the other team. Keep it simple. Run the ball.

a) Fog of war.
b) Duffy Daugherty, Michigan State coach circa the Marinaro era (paraphrasing): "Monday morning, anyone can tell me the right play to run. On Saturday afternoon, coaches have 25 seconds." He also had a bunch of Yoga Berra-isms led by, "My only feeling about superstition is that it's unlucky to be behind at the end of the game."

Swanstrom had a Brown time-out to think about it. And think about whether his QB can feather a pass over a defender to his receiver.
We must have a QB who can hit an open receiver.
Big plus to have a QB who can lead a receiver. 3rd and long is no big deal. All but impossible for Cornell at 3rd and 7.
brown keeps giving back the openings we give them and we insist on supplying new opportunities. brown missed a second chip shot FG. AND WE ROUGHED THE KICKER.
End of 3, still 10-6. Brown 2nd and goal from the 1.

The season was sort of lost the moment their best offensive weapon Sam Musungu was declared out for the season with an offseason knee injury. I'd like to see the freshman QB get some reps. Must as well build towards next season.
TD on the first play of the 4th Q, obvs.

Right. Took five weeks to find two backs who can run the ball. Now give them one QB who can pass it.
B-S has the pitch for the first down on 4th and 2 and ran into a wall instead. Ridiculous. 6 points from this game is an embarrassment.
Too much negativity in here
Side note: I love the roaring bear on the right side of Brown's helmets.
Solid drive, Bass-Sulpezio TD run followed by a swing pass for a clean 2pt conversion. 17-14.
Cornell tried for a pooch kickoff as a modified onside kick and SHOULD HAVE recovered, didn't. stop on first, stop on second, then they give up another 50 yard pass.
AND YET! Cornell gets a turnover on downs. Take over at the 25. Back to back passes and the ball is across midfield to the 40. 1:23 remaining.
Two more completions and Cornell has first and goal inside the 10! 1:03 left and BROWN takes a time out.
Some real bad passes but Cornell knocks a wobbler through to tie the game with 46 seconds to go.
OT, Brown ball first. Well-defended almost interception followed by a perfectly blocked dump-off screen for the TD.
Incomplete, sack, Kurtz for 23! First and goal. Triplett, up the middle TD. Kick is up... good. 24-24.
Great drive by Cornell finished with another short Triplett TD run. 2pt conversion failed. 30-24, Brown ball.
4 yard completion
8 yard completion first down
3 yard run
1 yard run
5 yard pass 4th and 1
STUFFED! (under review but not close imo)
Incredible comeback win after trying to give it away for three quarters. Love it.
That is why you have to keep the faith!
Good step forward. Columbia is also beatable. Maybe ... Princeton. LGR!

I'm shocked as it looked like no team wanted to win with so many chances throughout the game. Long bus ride home for Brown, go Big Red.
Cornell gave up 471 yards passing but only 1 YPC on the ground. Incredible job rallying to the ball but absolutely no coverage skills.
GBS threw for almost 400 himself and ran for another 70. Real breakout game for frosh WR Matulevic: 6-100.
This could have been a blowout W. Rough watch for most of the game but a good sign - as long as we can figure out the defensive backfield.

Last week it was the freshman and sophomore transfer running backs that contributed to the win. This week the freshman WR. Cornell had a good recruiting class last year and has a good start with this year's class. This is the talent that Archer couldn't recruit in sufficient numbers.
I looked at the play-by-play and we gave up these passes with 15 or more air yards:
29
18+10
43
47
50
16+2
39+5
45
plus a 25 yard TD off a screen in OT ...
AND WON

That rarely happens giving up such large chunks on passing plays. They have a long way to go improving their defensive secondary play.
