I looked at the roster but not a lot of names jump off the page at you. This team is off to a rough start. Overall they are 1-10 including 0-5 vs the NCAA. They've been outscored 29-4 in those games. Has the well dried up? They play Niagara Friday night before their trip to Lynah.

This crop of US juniors is the weakest we've had in years.
Need to see Walsh and Hoyt in this one

I'm pretty sure we could beat the NY Jets in hockey.

players who might go to the NTDP, can now go to Major Junior if they want, knowing they can still go to the NCAA eventually.

Sure, and I wonder how that fact might affect the cohesiveness of the US team at the World Juniors and other international competitions. Over the past couple of decades the US's top players have played together for years with the NTDP, but that may no longer be the case.

Good point.
Looking at effort and chances more than scoring stats, I'm hoping that tomorrow we see Long prove why he is worthy of the first line and Veilleux do a little more offensively than he did last week. But at the same time I think he and Ashton were a little aggressive in the O zone last week and got caught up in the play a couple times leading to chances that better teams might make us pay on. But hey, I'm being picky for one exhibition game
We won't know anything real about any of the newbies until well into January. I am hoping everybody stays healthy.
I like those two guys being aggressive. They just need to cover for each other when one of them goes. I expect as everyone gets used to playing together there will be better coverage from the forward group rotating back.
Dragging a friend to the game today. Should be one where we look good, especially considering how the NTDP is cratering right now. Anywho, let's get cracking.

We are either the tallest, or maybe second tallest, I don't remember. But even with that, he thinks we're still faster than we have been.
Walsh and I think it was Stanley were out because of a good helping of caution."
Wallace is back!
Walsh and Stanley too. Eight defenseman tonight
Hockey issue of the Sun collected. Now to show the friend how Lynah works :)
Also god damn the music is LOUD this year. I'm screaming to talk to him next to me during warmups.
1-0, them.

Elite Prospects shows Cornell as the second tallest. https://www.eliteprospects.com/league/ncaa/teams-physical-stats They could be the tallest since averaging heights which are integral numbers of inches cannot be averaged to a fraction of an inch with complete confidence. Possibly more important is that probably not all heights are correct, and Elite Prospects could be using some old figures. They are also second in weight.

Casty still snakebitten. 5 on 3 for a minute cause someone boarded Fegaras.
Of course, we did not score on the PP.

Yeah, I was really hoping that a 5 on 3 with a stickless goalie would have been a good enough opportunity.

WALSHY 2-1 US

2 mins PK for us. Hiscock. I think crosscheck.

Well the team did lose most of its best players from the prior season. Far more than usual due to giant senior class and players defecting to pros or other schools. I have no real expectations for this season.
"defecting" dear god we're not like, a fucking army
Nice glove from Cournoyer.
KRAFT AND WE'RE UP AGAIN. SNIPE WHILE FALLING ON HIS ASS. HE'S DONE THAT A LOT TODAY. FALL ON HIS ASS NOT SCORE.

And playing with 00.1 seconds left... 00.2. Sorry.
Castagna and Major are going to create a lot of goals this year.

Freshmen I am impressed by (SSS): Gorski, Fisher, DiGiuliani; Veilleux, Ryan, Ashton sporadically.

This was honestly pretty disappointing to me. This is a USNTDP team that has looked really bad against some mediocre to bad college teams and they played us to a one goal game.
I thought we looked good offensively and generated a bunch of chances but our defense today was really some of the worst I can remember seeing from a Cornell team. I mean watching Ashton in the lead up to their second goal was infuriating, you can't be lazy in the O zone when it's 4 on 4. Also the goalies, I thought we gave them too many high percentage chances, which I can't really blame the goalies for not saving, but I need a little more from a goalie room that has a senior that played on the US world junior team and a fifth round draft pick.
But hey, win one of the two next weekend and I'll be very happy, and won't remember a thing about this game.
I would post lines but I can't figure out how to attach a screenshot. I wouldn't read too much into them as Caton Ryan was on the first line for some reason.

Yeah that was... not our best effort. To say the least. I hope these are just growing pains.
Hopefully they can start to get their legs under them. They struggled in both third periods to match the level they had in the first forty. I expect that there will be less room to operate beginning next weekend but my takeaway from the two games was a willingness to put the puck toward the net. There wasn't consistent defensive pressure so there was a lot of opportunity to shoot off the pass in the two games. I'd like to think it's a conscious effort in contrast to trying to make the perfect play which has been the tendency often in recent years. That was some rocket off the stick of Walsh. Charlie Major has picked up where he left off. I really like the all white stick he's been using. I thought it was nice on his assist how he cut toward the middle. For a smaller player I appreciate him going to a tough area to make a play. On his goal I didn't think he had enough space to get a shot off at the speed he was going. Cournoyer made those two huge saves in the second period. It's going to be interesting to see how the goalies get utilized. I can't remember if Casey liked a tandem when he was with Clarkson or if he liked a workhorse? There have probably been multiple players who have but I can't remember if anyone before Hamilton has worn #26 since Topher?

As BearLover said, we had a 26 on our team literally last year, lol.
I miss him. (He's doing fine in Czechia. 2G 1A in 16 games as per EP.) And I keep getting whiplash with the influx of new players just how many numbers have changed.
Speaking of, I don't recall if I mentioned but there was an absolute legend in a Rayhill #7 jersey at the front left of D. Now that's a deep cut :')
For whoever was asking, lines were:
Ryan-Walsh-Kraft
Long-Castagna-Major
Devlin-DiGiulian-DeSantis
Hiscock-Catalano-Wallace
Veilleux-Stanley
Ashton-Fegaras
O'Brien-Fisher
Hamilton-Gorski
Arsenault ES

Tallest skaters:
6-5 235 Ashton
6-5 230 Murray
6-5 202 Hiscock
6-4 225 Wallace
6-4 223 Catalano
6-4 203 Devlin
6-3 207 Stanley
6-3 200 Fisher
6-3 200 Hamilton
6-3 186 McCrady

6-2 215 Arsenault
6-2 210 Wolfenberg
6-2 207 Fegaras
6-2 203 Long
6-2 198 Castagna
6-2 182 Pirtle
I assume we will see 7 D a lot in the Fall, as we develop shape and roll up D experience. I can't recall a season in which so many Freshmen were expected from the very first game to play big roles. We have had groups of blue chip frosh, but never such depth into the broad base of minutes. It is like rooting for the team after the Covid year.
