Ugh. This is the ESPN U game tonight at 7. We are 33.5 point underdogs.
I think I'll watch local high school football. Bethlehem Catholic is playing Nazareth and Allentown Central Catholic is playing Parkland. Neither one will be especially competitive, but they'll be closer than our game against Sucks.
Plus PA high school football has a mercy rule. ;D
33.5 point underdogs.
Is that a lot?
Usual start.
Bass-Sulpezio gets the start and completes a nice pass for a first down. Almost immediately followed by a botched pitch that Cornell kicks around until Harvard scoops it for 6. Under review for possible forward shovel pass... it's very close... TD Harvard. hoo boy.
Someone should tell #5 that you don't run past the guy you're supposed to block.
It was a good call and design.
We've had a few decent passes, but lack the crispness. By game four I'd like to see better execution.
The Harvard QB completes 75% of his passes?
Nice play by the defensive back!
This team is showing a lot of fight.
Offensively, this team is poorly prepared, poorly coached, and certainly lacking the personnel they need to even stay on the field. That last set of downs, the quarterback, missed a wide open receiver for an easy touchdown while he had his head down. I don't know what they need to do, in order to attract better players, but something needs to change or they might as well just dump this program.
Defensively, receivers are wide open. They're given so much cushion, and we're putting no pressure on the quarterback with rushing only three people. This coaching staff has some issues, I do realize, however, that this defensive line is so small. Again, not sure where this program is headed.
Thank you, Mike Shanahan, for the practice of icing the kicker.
Let's put a series of positive plays together here.
Harvard is having too much success attacking our right defensive end. We need to get that fixed.
End of the third quarter. Cornell moved it down to the 20. The refs missed an obvious holding call on the receiver that would have given Cornell a first down at around the fifteen. Cornell settles for a field goal. 17-10 Harvard with one full quarter to play.
Big of home-cooking by the refs.
Big Red getting jobbed here, that was a clear fumble, could've been seven more points going the other way. The Refs didn't even look at it another time. This is pure bullshit.
That's clearly a fumble by Harvard on the 10! Refs called it an incomplete pass. I don't know why we can't review that. Harvard kicks a field goal. 20-10.
Edit: The announcers rightly point out that the ref blew the whistle and the play was over. But they also note that the ref should not have blown the whistle and should have let the play go on.
Another game, like at Yale, where a game that could have gone either way in the fourth, ends with a score that looks like a rout.
Without a QB who can throw downfield, we play handicapped.
This one got away. But there are some positives to take from it and to keep improving.

He has some fine throws and others not as much. He needs more consistency. He shouldn't be afraid to tuck it more and get up the field.

An effective QB has to be able to "drop it in the bucket" as ugarte described an opposing QB's clutch pass one of these past weeks...like Craig did tonight to keep the drive alive that ended in Harvard's third touchdown. Else the defense plays receivers tight with no fear of giving up a long ball.
Even my fuckin BU friend is finding lowlights (https://x.com/SickosCommittee/status/1976794185421422986) of this game. Man, we're cooked.
The Cornell defense played really well and kept the team in the game. However, on offense it just seems like the unit is in a constant state of confusion. For example, first play of the game we fumbled a simple pitch out for a TD. Where last week we opened with two picks in a row against Colgate. We rushed for a total of 66 yards and there has been no running game all season, other than our QB running for his life. This team is on track for 0-10 if they don't turn it around.
