Swanstrom announced at yesterday's sports luncheon that they are going with Page for a majority of snaps plus shaking up the offensive lineup a bit

the game isn't on the live calendar for some reason but the link on the cornell schedule works https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/b94030ae-db5d-43e4-9976-8b79fb70117b
Yale -17.5 I don't think I have seen an Ivy spread that large since the Penn glory days.
ESPN has it -20.5. Why? We may suck but Yale is Ivy Good (i.e., also sucks).
Stream is up. Glad we couldn't see the SUNYA game, we were wearing godawful trashbags.
1st drive 4th down defensive stop! Nice job. Great recovery after a 63-yard Yale KO return.
Yale returns the opening kickoff across midfield but Cornell gets a clutch stop on 4th and 1.
Cornell's first drive goes sack, incomplete, incomplete. Going to be a long day if this is what it looks like in the trenches. Yale shoved the Red straight backwards.
Another defensive stop aided by a holding penalty against Yale on what looked like a successful scramble by the QB. Need to have one play with positive yardage by the offense before I start thinking hopeful thoughts.
Cornell with an interesting reverse to get to 4th and 3 and then a designed run for Page to get a Big Red first down across midfield. Immediate false start. Sigh.
Best plays are Yale penalties.::cheer::

Get the first down, though, on an 8 from Pope and a decent completion. Cornell takes a deep shot, which doesn't connect, but
Yale Cornell gets hit for
roughing something and
Cornell is in the red zone ugh.
And then Yale gets hit for late hit for real! Ball at the 22 and then a run down to the 12. Wow.
Page sneak. 7-0. 5:50 to go in the 1st qtr.
This feels as unsustainable as a Mets lead in the standings but I'll take it while it lasts.
Quote from: TrotskyPage sneak. 7-0. 5:50 to go in the 1st qtr.
After a nice play on 2d and 2 to get to the 1. Yale shot themselves in the foot a couple of times but Cornell didn't ask to borrow the gun so that was nice.
Oh man bullshit call to get Yale down to the 6. Receiver definitely looked like he was still trying to get possession after his toedrag took him OOB.

two straight-ahead runs later and Yale is on the board. 7-7.
Fuuuuuuuck a great long catch from Broussard pulled back on illegal man downfield.
Quote from: ugarteFuuuuuuuck a great long catch from Broussard pulled back on illegal man downfield.
Broussard, a freshman, looks like the real deal - getting open, Page showing confidence in him. He may have had a touchdown* on the previous play if he hadn't stumbled in the open field.
Tucker also looks like a better RB than Pope so I'd like to see that reflected in playing time!
Few things dumber than personal foul penalties.
Whoooo Cornell catches a break on a bad drop by Yale at midfield on 3d and 5. Cornell takes over at ~26.
Cornell gets an ineligible man downfield on... Ryder Kurtz? Basically an illegal formation penalty. That's on Swanstrom.
Walked away for 30 seconds and Yale flew downfield for a TD. 48 run by Pitsenberger.
Any thoughts on what RV means on the schedule?

Cornell quick kick plan fails this time. A dud from Page from Cornell's 32 that barely rolls past the 40... but a fumble from Pitsenberger (muffed handoff) and recovery by Cornell turns it into their biggest gain of the day!
Cornell conversion on 4th and 3 and there is a ticky-tack targeting call under review that would push us into the red zone.
No targeting. Ball at the 26.
Nice to see Kiser back.
Shutting me up, Pope gets the first down inside the 15 on a 3d and 13 run.
Easy illegal contact call against Yale, better if DPI? YES! DPI. Cornell first and goal at the 3.
Dangerous pass into the end zone but Dorrance Smith makes a great grab for the score. 14-14.
Sorry to say, but this is awful football. Penalty every other play.

No need to be sorry. You're right! Really sloppy from both sides. Thanks for the answer on RV.

I'm OK with sloppy play if the result is a W.
Page has a wide open receiver on the bootleg but doesn't put enough air under it (a problem last week on the final drive) and gets the pass batted down. Poorly designed RPO doesn't get the first but at least we let the punter punt and he drives one to the 11. Fair catch.
This defense will keep the Big Red in a lot of games.
Cornell defensive stand, Yale has to punt. Between the return and an illegal formation penalty, Cornell starts inside the Yale 40.
Better RPO design and Tucker up the middle for ~6. Two minute warning.
The line is getting a nice push in the red zone.
OL starting to open holes up the middle for Tucker and Pope. Cornell now 2d and Goal from the 3. Under a minute left in the half.
Running well between the hashmarks.
Wishbone formation!
I'd go but it's not my job to lose.
Tough decision... incomplete on second down. RPO keeper by Page down to the one. 4 seconds left. Sneak or kick...

I'd kick and go up in the half. Put a little doubt in the minds of the Bulldogs.
They call an unsportsmanlike on the fourth bump, our guy?
Edit: Good: Offset.
Bah. I do not say this lightly:
https://youtu.be/NPY3Cu2R1SI
Cornell lines up to go for it, Yale calls timeout.
Cornell comes out in FG formation... Yale blocks the kick.
Chirping after the block, some flags. Offsetting unsportsmanlike. 14-14 at the half.
Brief sighting of Ricardo Lagares at running back.
Yale has four first downs.
Start off with a drive killing holding penalty.
Special teams coach on the hot seat.
Keeping it to a FG would be a big win.
Heckuva a pass rush with a 3 man front.
Two drives, two interceptions. Throwing into heavy coverage.
Why are the benches set up at the 35 yard line instead of the usual midfield?
Surely, one of the frosh QBs can throw downfield.
We're having some success with the run-option. Maybe be patient with that for a bit.
Cornell tush push.
Beautiful drive!
Quote from: mike1960Beautiful drive!
Now get a stop.
Nice job 95 knocking the ball out and causing a turnover!
I'm back. End of 3, Cornell down 27-21. Yale has the ball near midfield.
Bubble screen has worked well today.
25 to Kurtz up the seam. 15 to Kiser on a great blitz pickup/screen. Into Yale territory. Of course, another false start penalty because we're trying to do hurry up.
Run it until they stop it.
Woodring catch for the first, WR screen into the red zone. Great drive until Tucker got stuffed on 1st from the 14.
Don't force the ball, young man. That's already caused two interceptions.
Incomplete on second, *dangerous* incomplete on third. FG is good. Cornell cuts the deficit to 3.
Tackle the legs.
That's what's wrong with this country - you don't see form tackling anymore.
Cornell *almost* recovers a Yale fumble on second down, incomplete on third when a receiver dropped it in the end zone. On 4th and 7, Yale passes up a 40+ yard FG attempt. Sideline pass, complete, receiver reaches out past the sticks BUT THE REF RULES HIS KNEE IS DOWN SHORT. Under review...
Quote from: mike1960Tackle the legs.
seriously - shouldn't have been close to a first.
Let's go win this thing.
Big play coming... 4th and 4 from the Cornell 41. Going for it. Under 3 minutes to go. Yale TO.
I think I'd punt here. Use the 3 timeouts to hold them for another chance.
Page escapes pressure then makes an absoutely terrible throw after getting free. Picked off.
Time for the defense to really step up
Page had to juke one 300 pound guy - and he had room to - to give himself a better shot with his legs. Instead the ball went into triple coverage and was way short.
Turnovers killing Cornell. First downs now 23-10. Can't keep giving away the ball.
Yale QB drops one in the bucket for 28 down to the Cornell 10. Pitsenberger up the gut for another 6. Two minute warning and Cornell is out of TOs. Barring a turnover, wrap this one up. Much better outcome than expected (again) but a loss (again).
The seeds of a good team under Swanstrom are here.
Yale punches it in. 34-24. Wrap it up.
Kids deserved better.
4th and 20 and Page hits Kurtz for the first. Kurtz gets shaken up AND Page gets hit late and has to come out. Cornell ball at the Yale 41 after the roughing penalty. Bass-Sulpezio comes in for one play, runs for 2. Incomplete on second. Page takes a shot at the end zone and draws a DPI; flag picked up (probably because the ball was short).
On 4th, Cornell commits an obvious holding penalty in the backfield, Page rolls out and throws it right to the Yale defensive star, Kamara, who turns it into a pick six and now it looks like a blowout. 41-24.

I agree. This program is moving in a positive direction. Lots to work on.
Cornell played better vs. Yale, but once again no running game. Meanwhile the Bull Dogs RB rushed for 175 yards. Maybe running the football sounds boring, but it seems like the opposing teams always run the ball and Cornell does not. Homecoming at Cornell this week and Go Big Red!
