Title: Last-minute discounts to attend Syracuse Class of '29
Post by: billhoward on June 14, 2025, 08:05:00 AM
NY Times article says Syracuse, riding a record wave of Class of 2029 applicants, may have been too stingy doling out financial aid. Too many admits chose elsewhere. And then Syracuse had to offer generous discounts post-May 1 to get desired candidates to decommit elsewhere. Not surprisingly, nobody at Syracuse is available for comment. The school currently stands at #73 on the US News ratings. NYS has 11 of the top 100 spot, led of course by Cornell at #11. Writer Ron Lieber said some last-minute offers amounted to $200,000 over the four years.

Plus they got knocked out of the NCAA lax tournament.

Columbia?  Usually ranked higher due to selectivity.  No statutory colleges.

Columbia ranked 13 by US News.  I'd also guess Columbia's yield will be way down this year because of the campus turmoil.  So who owns New York?

I was going to post this article here, not surprised to see someone already diid. In a weird coincidence, two other schools are mentioned in the article as places that Syracuse applicants will attend instead: Penn State and Maryland.

People are catching on to how "selectivity" is manipulated.  Columbia is legit since they ride the designer label, but even decent schools like Vanderbilt have been caught deliberately mass recruiting kids they know will be rejected for the sole purpose of artificially lowering their acceptance rates.  Whichever sociopath consultant thought that play up got a nice bonus.

Maybe New York's other Ivy isn't so legit!  Headline from NY Times, March 17, 2022:  US News Ranked Columbia No. 2, but a Math Professor Has His Doubts

They're the only Ivy that isn't 98% white/honorary white. Leave them alone.
