The bio in the announcement is pretty comprehensive. One issue I see is that he's never coached at an elite academic school, so there will be a learning curve in recruiting the type of player we look for. But I'm confident Casey and Flanagan will be able to get Brown up to speed.

I like it, since he seems to be a defensive specialist. We just lost one of the country's premier defensive minds behind the bench. Since Brown handled the Nanook D, which has turned out to be formidable, that somewhat frees Casey up to do what he knows.

And his time at DIII is valuable too. I'm sure he has contacts in Minnesota recruiting circles, and the announcement highlighted how that program led in academic awards. He seems to be good with certain priorities in that respect.

I'm pretty sure the type of player we look for is just the best player possible who passes the minimum academic requirements...in the end, probably not so different from the players Brown has previously recruited.

probably gets to aim a little higher on the skill level so there's a learning curve there.

I also see that his son plays D for Ferris State. I don't know how good he is - only played in 15 games (https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=241363) his freshman year - but he was a point-a-game scorer in the NAHL. Possible transfer?

I never saw a press release about him getting the bump to Assoc Coach.   Maybe I missed it?

It seems like a logical move- he's proven to work within our system. Hopefully we can keep him a good long while.
