Decided to split the women's thread this year per semester :)
First update is - they're rolling out reserved seating for the women's games! Got an email earlier today about it. You can buy "reserved seating in premium sections" for season tickets or general admission. I assume this was only sent to 24-25 STM.
Personally, I'm going to wait until the men's tickets go on sale and see if they're going to discount the women's season tickets with purchase of a men's.
Good idea!
I may do the same!

Last year I was only going to get the men's because I was like, 1L year, a lot of studying and all that... then it was only $20 for the women's season with purchase of a men's... and I caved. LOL. Looks like the "premium" seating is only in the balcony and the back of the far side (K-O).
Saw this announcement for the incoming players:

When the headline starts with "McDavid" that kind of draws attention.
Yes, she is related (cousin). Talk about having pressure on you.
Regardless, it seems like a great incoming class.
Lily Pachl looks like a very nice addition in particular. Several committed players for Fall 26 and beyond are on the U.S. and Canadian U18 and national development team camps this month as well.

*If* it's the same weekend as the Men's tournament, I think this is a very savvy move. That would be fun weekend, honestly and has the potential to be really great for the Lake Placid & Saranac Lake community, as well as fans of this level of hockey.
Edit: it probably won't be, considering the timing of the women's NCAA tournament in past years.
Cornell picked No. 1 in the coaches' poll, and Grace Dwyer and Annelies Bergmann are on the preseason all-ECAC team: https://ecachockey.com/news/2025/9/11/womens-ice-hockey-cornell-tabbed-as-league-favorite-in-2025-26.aspx

It is entirely possible I am hallucinating.

I agree with this completely. Though the LP biz community probably wants more downtime for people to shop.
Bergmann is a junior this coming season. However, I wonder if there is a possibility she could be selected for the U.S. Olympic team as she performed very well at the Collegiate Series this past August in Lake Placid.

If she is picked, they don't centralize the team anymore, so I'm not sure if it'd be a situation where she'd sit out the season to preserve eligibility. Though the Olympics would be at the same time as the college postseason, so not ideal.

Nod nod. Just surprised that the team has almost no room for error injury-wise. 18 skaters + 1 starter goalie + 1 backup is already 20.

Can we get Bri and Jill a couple of uniforms? Should solve the lack of forwards issue.
Game vs BC is on ESPN+ at either 1 or 4 ET, depending on whether they correct for time zones. My guess is... 4?

Very excited for the opener! I didn't realize it had been a decade since we last played BC.
We need a camera on the townie side to show the student crowd. It is sad to pan the empty half of the barn for the women.

Freshman Shannon Pearson, from Delaney Fleming and Mckenna Van Gelder, at 8:33. 1-0 Cornell.

In the recent past, it was often like this. Even the visiting fans gravitate to the pressbox side of the rink. I used to love that the other side was empty. I would stand up on the bleachers toward the back and walk back and forth, following the play. Often joined by player fathers who couldn't sit still while their kids played. :)

The power play looked very strong against BC even with only one PPG for the weekend. The first unit kept the puck in the zone for 80 to 90 seconds at least a couple times, though BC did not seem to be overly aggressive on the kill. I wasn't paying attention as closely during Saturday's game, but it seemed like Derraugh went away from using three D (Grober and the Dwyers) on the PP after doing so Friday?
Thought all the freshmen looked good, and love seeing so many players with points already. Looking forward to seeing the team in person next month.

That was true 10 years ago. I am not sure what you see as a problem. At that time, it would have been the Ivy Network but same access question. And if you go back pre-internet, a recruit had to visit campus or rely on word-of-mouth to make decisions about where to play.
Your concern also would appear to assume that there are few quality players in the US. Recent Olympic games might suggest otherwise.

I wonder how much of this is due to tv coverage. Is ESPN encouraging piped-in music to make the general game sound fuller over the broadcast? Or are schools of the opinion that they need to do it because that's what other schools do?
A couple of weeks ago, I was at an Oregon State football game, and they used this to great effect in the postgame concert. The band would play a song, then while they were transitioning to the next piece, piped-in music would play until the band was ready again. It was well choreographed and did a great job of keeping the energy up (which was much needed in the post-game celebration due to how this was their first win of the season).
Oregon State announcers are also awesome at engaging the crowd and working *with* the crowd during a game, especially when energy is starting to ebb when the team is doing poorly. Overall, the school pays attention to the showmanship and creates a great atmosphere. Unlike Cornell, the band has a full-time faculty member directing the program who is excellent, and he's got to be tightly coordinated with every other part of the event.
At UNH hockey games, the faculty director does wear a headset to coordinate with the announcing crew, but they don't do as good a job. Maybe it was the grad student subbing in for the on-sabbatical director when I was there or maybe the university/announcing crew there just doesn't get it, even though it's obvious that the crowd is more engaged when the band plays.
If Cornell wants to keep Lynah full, the band is a big part of the equation.

I'm no expert but I would be surprised if ESPN were making any suggestions at all, and I would be shocked if they were making them about the music.

Yep - the pep band plays a LOT during the women's games. Partially, I assume, because fewer people are watching, so they can mess around with fewer "repercussions" for getting it wrong. (Also, I think, in part because the chants don't carry well in a mostly-empty rink.)

3-0 after 2. PPG from Avar. As per the scoreboard, we are being outshot 13-27, but I think we had a few more shots. Absolute frightfest on the PK though. Happy Halloween from the women's team, I guess.

Holy fuck I love the 10-24-79 line.
3-0 end game. 21-39 shots on goal. Another Bergmasterclass.
Exceptionally clean performance from Bergmann to get the shutout. To be a little bit critical, we probably won't want to be leaning on our goalie quite that much. Limiting shots on goal was a strength last year.

You got 1 and 2 flipped but yep. 3rd was a PPG.
I think this is the first time a Derraugh team has started 6-0, amazingly. There has usually been an early season loss or tie even in the best seasons.

Thanks for the correction. I was going by my admittedly bad memory.
It is really great to see that Perron-Roy has elevated her game with the increased ice time.
It's the little things.
At the tunnel when warmups end, kids usually coalesce to get high-fives from players. There's one little girl today. McDavid fully stopped in her tracks to have a conversation with her. Chatted for a solid half minute at least. Absolutely made that girl's week.
Another comment on the Yale game -- the Yale goalie, Philips, was ranked #5 nationally going into the game. Bergmann was #2.

Daily Flemalty.
Regalado on the powerplay! From Prefontaine and Curtis.
Schiff from Fleming and Avar makes it 2-0 at the end of the 1st.
Looking good so far against the Rhode Island Tootsie Rolls
3-0. Schiff again, I believe... from Grace Dwyer.

In her defense, she did not get a lot of help from her teammates. And Cornell's passing on the first two goals was outstanding.

There goes Bergy's shutout streak. Still like... 4+ games without a goal, if you combine the end of the Harvard game with most of this one.

I like how once the game is too far gone, every single women's team employs the same strategy, and that strategy is Murder Avi Adam.
5-1 end of game. Hell yeah.
I really had no idea what to expect from the offense coming into this season, so it's been great to see how everyone is contributing. Well-deserved week off coming up.
Nationally, the Cornell women are currently #1 in team defense, powerplay and penalty kill. Not a bad start to the season! Number 7 in team offense with 4.29 goals per game [#1 Wisconsin is at 5.18].

Get on board and bring about 500 townies with you. We need to fill that barn for them.
The NCAA seems to track only faceoff win leaders (and not faceoff winning percentage), as far as I can tell, but I did the math and Mckenna Van Gelder is winning 70 percent of her faceoffs (104/148). Just by eyeballing, looks like it puts her around the top 5 or so in the country.

From watching on ESPN, it sounds like the pep band gets to play as much as it wants during the women's game. It's too bad they play so much piped-in music during the men's games, cutting in to the amount of pep band time.
My third or fourth hand understanding is that athletics has decided to limit the band more and more at men's games. First killing pregame. Then adding jock jams. Now apparently controlling when they play entirely. Seems gone are the days that the band coordinates announcements with ACM and otherwise uses its own judgment to fill other breaks. A system which... Worked fine?

Important games this weekend. #4 Cornell at #14 Colgate today at either 3 or 4 depending on whom you trust. Then they flip around and play in Ithaca tomorrow. Cornell broke Colgate's string of 4 consecutive ECAC championships (http://www.tbrw.info/?/womens_history/w_ECAC_Champion_Icon.htm) last year.

Started at 3 pm EST
0-0 after the first period. Fairly sloppy game so far from Cornell's side and a little chippy. Some signs of frustration at the lack of quality chances. Despite our 7-0 record and number 4 national ranking, i get the sense that this is a team still searching for connectedness on the ice.
Colgate gets two quick goals right from the drop in the 2nd. Both capitalizing on defensemen seemingly losing focus. Can't say it's completely surprising. Now we get to see if we have comeback-ability.
Down 0-2 after the 2nd. Looking pretty beleaguered out there. It seems like this iteration of CUWiH struggles to forecheck against big physical opposition. Coming off a bye week, gotta wonder what practice has been like.
0-3 Final from Hamilton. There's no sugarcoating this one. One of the most lackluster performances we've seen from this team in a long time. The relatively small roster size this season makes it tough to come from behind. That was a rude awakening to some considerable deficiencies in the program at the moment, and look to be a step back from their level from the past couple years.
The small roster is baffling. It's not like we had any surprising departures in the offseason.

I have never heard an explanation of the small roster size so I am hesitant to just assume the coach made a unilateral decision to go with a small group. That being said, he lost a national championship in triple overtime with a smaller roster so am not ready to give up on this team. They did look pretty awful though. Outshot 2-1, at least through the second period. I haven't looked at the final stats.

I think Caroline Chan is the only non-senior from last season's team not on this season's roster. Related, I have been curious about whether Sarah MacEachern might have done anything to try to get an extra season of Ivy eligibility since she's missed so much time to injury.
Not a stretch to say today's rubber match against 'Gate will be a real test of character for the whole team and coaching staff after yesterday's uncompetitive showing in Hamilton. Can we at least hold our own in 5x5 play? Let's go ladies.

3x3 suuuuuuuuucks.
If nothing else, you should lose possession if you leave the offensive zone intentionally.
I am watching from Denver so I have no inside information, but I wonder if it might be illness affecting the team. I know that was often an issue when I did interact with the men's and women's teams on a regular basis. Colds, flu, a stomach bug will make the rounds since the players spend so much time together and even a minor illness can really impact play if even a handful of players are not 100%.

Sorry, don't look at my phone much during the game, but I finally made it up for a game this season. Gritty win; good to see. Agree with dag14 that the team seemed to looked a step slow and also wondered if there might be some illness, but this is the first time I'm seeing them in person so it's hard for me to tell. Colgate is also a step above the previous opposition this season. Need to take care of business the rest of the semester and they should be in good shape going into the break.
