Title: Stats Since Healthy
Post by: Jim Hyla on March 28, 2025, 11:12:50 AM
I decided to look at some stats since we've had a full team. I started with the first RPI game, as that was when we actually had 4 full lines. You could argue waiting till Brown, since O'Brien was on the fourth line and he's a defenseman, but regardless...

Some of my addition might be off and some stats such as save percentage are wrong.

For example Shane was pulled in First Period of the second Union game and I just assumed he played the whole period.

If you see any stupid errors, let me know. Otherwise don't nitpick me on this.

There are 14 games till today. 52 goals and 25 GA.

Comparing those 14 with our current complete year.

       14 Games All Year  Year-14
G/G        3.7    3.1      2.68
Rank       #5     #21       #26

GA/G       1.8    2.3      2.65
Rank       #3     #11       #21

Save %    .924   .901      .885
Rank       #6     #35       #60

PP%       21.4   15.1     10.7
Rank       #26    #56       #63

PK%       87.8   83.0     79.6
Rank       #3    #16       #32

And remember the complete year stats include the last 14. So if we compared it to the games before the 14, it would even look better.

Thanks to George64 we have the beginning of the year stats and it doubly reinforces the difference when we get our team together.

1 more goal per game, 0.8 fewer against, save % up by .039, PP% doubles, PK % increases by 8% so goals given up on a penalty almost cut in half.

My conclusion, based upon incomplete more complete statistics, you do better when you have a full team for practice and for games.::doh::

Second point. We were never as bad as it looked.

And hopefully we can continue to be as good as the last 14.

Particularly the last 7!

Thanks, Jim,  using some algebra, with x being our unknown stat for the other 20 games (I omitted Toronto), our stats would be (assuming my math is correct):

2.68
2.65
.885
10.69
79.6
.

Opponents don't have much tape to study of THIS team.

If they spent any time watching Cornell game footage before March, no wonder we surprised MSU.

Thanks George, I added those to the original.

And it really reinforces the point.

If they spent any time watching Cornell game footage before March, they would need therapy... hahaha
