Title: Scores, Fri Oct 24
Post by: jtwcornell91 on October 24, 2003, 10:41:55 PM
Three simultaneous games on the dish tonight:

Wisconsin dodges a bullet against Quinnipiac (2-1 in OT)
Minnesota loses to Duluth 3-2 in overtime
BC and Notre Dame on CSTV, but I missed the end of that

Elsewhere, SLU and Tech both fall 3-2 :-/ but Union beats Bowling Green :-)

ND's freshman goalie shut out BC, 1-0, with 27 saves (give or take one or two).  Ben Eaves out with injury.

Not that it means anything, but the US Under 18 team, which we're playing tomorrow, won their game tonight against Geneseo:

Title: Mercyhurst-OSU

Missed a big one: Mercyhurst upset Ohio State 3-2.  If I'm not mistaken this is the first win by a MAAC/AH team over a CCHA (or WCHA or HE) opponent.  Sort of bad for us, since we play Ohio State in Florida, and the unexpected loss on their part will lower our strength of schedule.

Close, it's certainly the first AH win over the CCHA... but Sacred Heart struck again last year for the first MAAC win. This is #2 - http://uscho.com/recaps/20022003/m/02/22/shu-mu.php

still yet to beat HEA and the WCHA, as far as I know.

And considering we play both teams this year, it's either a little disconcerting or a little encouraging.  I'm not sure which:-P

Last night's complete D-I scores, as copied and pasted from USCHO, if anyone cares:

Atlantic Hockey
Army   3  at  Bentley   1
CCHA
Northern Michigan   0  at  Michigan   2
Western Michigan   2  at  Michigan State   4
Miami   5  at  Lake Superior   2
Ferris State   2  at  Alaska-Fairbanks   4
Hockey East
Merrimack   4  at  Northeastern   2
Boston University   6  at  Providence   4
WCHA
Minnesota-Duluth   4  at  Minnesota   3
Michigan Tech   3  at  St. Cloud State   3
Non-Conference
Union   3  at  Bowling Green   1
American Int'l   1  at  Air Force   5
Notre Dame   1  at  Boston College   0
Maine   3  at  St. Lawrence   2
Wayne State   3  at  Findlay   6
Quinnipiac   1  at  Wisconsin   2
Mercyhurst   3  at  Ohio State   2
Colorado College   3  at  Clarkson   2
Minnesota State   3  at  Bemidji State   1
Connecticut   4  at  Alabama-Huntsville   1
Holy Cross   1  at  Massachusetts   2
Punch Imlach Showcase
Mass.-Lowell   6  vs.  Niagara   1
New Hampshire   8  vs.  Canisius   2
Exhibition
Guelph   0  at  Harvard   8

Probably the most important score for us not mentioned already, since we play both teams this season, is Union 3 at Bowling Green 1.  And suddenly Union is 4-0-0, and I'm saying, WTF?!  Granted, Bowling Green had only eight wins last year so we shouldn't have expected a lot out of them, but still...wow, Union is winning games.  Then again, they play UNH on Halloween so that streak will be over soon. :-D

Nice to note in last night's U18 game that both former CU-er Jay Kuczmanski had an assist and former Ithaca High player Matt Caren (he of the fastest hat trick in the history of the NYS public high school tournament finals) had a goal and an assist for Geneseo.
