Less than a week away from the second half now, close enough to look ahead. Umass is a solid team but has a mediocre record and are buoyed by a strong strength of schedule. We played an exciting game with them in placid last year with us leading late and them scoring a goal with the net empty to tie it (if I remember correctly), and us winning the shootout. The main scorers to look out for are forwards Suniev and O'Hara. They will be missing two guys because of the world juniors, their tank of a goalie, Hrabal (playing for Czechia), and freshman forward jencko (playing for Slovakia), who hasn't produced much this year. This means we will face the backup goalie Jackson Irving who hasn't played much but has been really good in his rare minutes.
The last game will be against either ASU or Robert Morris. Neither team scares me much but Robert morris would certainly be the easier game. I think that both teams are overrated by the pairwise right now but arizona state is red hot (won their last 5, all NCHC games) and is playing at home. At least we should be used to this arena by now because it seems like we've played in Tempe as much as we have in Ithaca during the Schafer warm weather tour over the past few years.

ASU swept Denver this season.
Let's hope that the holiday break and school/finals break gave them the physical and mental break they apparently needed.
I can vouch for just the academic side taking its toll, I can't imagine adding in the physically taxing aspect on top of that.
Looking forward to tuning in for the games!

Same here :) in Europe for the holidays, and the Internet here is god awful (it's a struggle to watch NHL games because they freeze constantly) so I'll probably only check in the morning after. Fingers crossed for some good games :)

It's impossible to really say much about this game before it happens. Cornell desperately needs players back from injury and then it needs to win at an astronomical clip the remainder of the season to get an at-large bid. If Cornell plays like it did the first half of the season then the game against UMass/ASU will be no better than a coin flip and probably worse than that. I'm pessimistic by nature, obviously, but even when I squint I can't find many sources for optimism unless we get almost all of the injured players back. So many games first semester were lost on special teams, but this problem has been clear for a long time now and hasn't been fixed. So why would now be different? An OT win and a regulation loss against a bad team to close out last semester showed me this team was nowhere close to turning the corner. Unlike early in the season when I was hoping for and expecting the best, now I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Winning in regulation tonight would go a long way towards changing that narrative.
It could also be that 3-4-5 guys were playing, were hurt, and not full practicing, but we needed bodies so they played.
lets see how it goes

True. But injuries are so common. Did Cornell actually have it that much worse than other teams? I think I remember reading a Colgate defenseman went down a few seconds into the game at Lynah and did not play the rest of the weekend. Colgate still beat us and got an OT loss without him.
Last season we had practically no injuries. The first third of this season we came down with one helluva case of Gambler's Fallacy.
Anyone get the NCHC video to come up yet?
Had to reboot but it's on
It didn't pop up until a minute into play. The camera is mounted in a Chinese spy balloon.
Devin, Penney, Wallace "not expected back anytime soon."

I've done everything. I get a https://nchchockey.com/tv/schedule/event/1240 link and an arrow clicking which does nothing.
Are any of the injured guys from last game back in the lineup?
Pretty good period except for the goal against. I don't know what happened on the shot but it sure looks like one Shane should've had.
Well.
1. We're losing.
2. I paid for NCHC video and can't get it.
3. The WHCU Nazi network has their Coward Ads at each break.
4. And the carrier has other ads that blast in the middle of the game.
So, fuck this. Good night.

You can say that about a lot of our periods this season.

Bizarre with the stream. I logged into my account and I've had no issue viewing the game. I'm also watching the game outside the country without a VPN so no broadcast territory issues either.
I finally got it. I had to do some serious shit.
Let's Go Red! Fuck New England with the Boston Common equestrian statue of George Washington. Sideways.
UMass has a Latvian player (https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/638391/dans-locmelis) whose last name is pronounced "Lush Melons." That is either really bad or really good for his Mom.
Our best pp in a while.
And now another decent pp. Against a team with a great kill (88%).
And now WALSH!!!

From the Sun (https://cornellsun.com/2025/01/02/the-suns-mid-season-mens-hockey-mailbag/):
Quote from: Jane McNally mailbagCould we get a rundown of current injuries and when players are expected back?
If things are going as Schafer has informed me, the team should be healthy by February barring any further injuries. Specifics of the injuries are not disclosed to me, but I can characterize it in NHL terms — upper vs. lower body — to preserve the players' rightful privacy.
Devlin and Wallace have both been sidelined from lower body injuries since the start of the season. As I previously mentioned, both are hopeful returners by Feb. 1. Still, if that return date is taken literally, the Red will have to go nine to 10 games without either forward in the lineup.
Penney's injury/ailment prevented him from traveling to Madison Square Garden and to Colgate. His name was listed beside Devlin's and Wallace's for a Feb. 1 return.
Bancroft has had all kinds of quality scoring opportunities this game
The periods are 20 minutes long, idiots.
Other than the scoring, its not like Umass has done much to generate chances. One goal Shane has to make the save and on the renound just ended up at the open net on the PP
But if in hockey you need to generate 10 good chances to score its gonna be a long night.
Most teams in the spot we got into get 2-4 goals and we got none so far.
Quote from: upprdeckOther than the scoring, ...
Mrs. Lincoln,
All tied up
Now stay out of the box and score
Dalton right down the throat.
We need at least one more. Budgeting for that 19:59 UMass goal.
Please stay outta the box against the #2 pp in the country.
Guy on UMass VERY mad that he ran Shane, for some reason.
Great win. Could be a nice jump start for the 2nd half and important for Pairwise down the road
Huge win. Bancroft had a great game and had the highlight reel GWG at a key point in the 3rd.

WOOT!!! We're officially won?
Just like that we're 17th in the pairwise.
Which is to say, it's way too early to doom over pairwise odds.
Very nice and needed win but I'm still pissed that were on a stretch of 4 games that I can't watch. Hopefully we get ASU tomorrow.
YES!
Lol@the haters and losers on this forum who think I want Cornell to lose.
O'Brien was on the ice for the Rego goal. Was O'Brien getting regular shifts? Did someone get injured?

O'Brien filled in on defense when Kempf got hurt and missed a few shifts, then took over at wing for Donaldson in the third period.
Can you all post the scoring as it happens for those of us not watching? Thanks.

I do not remember the NCHC announcers mentioning Mullett Arena fan favorite Jack O'Leary even a single time. (He did play, and I saw him once)

I think I heard his name once. He did play but didn't stand out compared to some of the other forwards
Very nice of Castagna to make sure every period closed with a goal. Nice win.
Meanwhile, ASU is up 3-0 with ~13:00 left in the 3d period assuming USCHO live scoring is up to date

Go Augie.
I meant to go to one of their games this year, but there was literally one game where Cornell wasn't playing at the same time and I was sick.
Seven grad transfers on ASU's roster. What a joke.
