1. All the Ithaca hotels seem to have jacked up to double rates. Is it Homecoming or something?
2. Would anybody be interested in going in on an Airbnb with Anne and me for that Fri/Sat? And does anyone have any recommendations, whether or not you would personally be interested?
Thanks, and Let's Go Red!
Sadly that's what Ithaca hotels tend to cost on fall weekends. It looks a little higher than usual, but not a ton. It could be there are a lot of visiting sports teams at both Cornell and IC that weekend. I try to book my fall weekends in Ithaca in the spring.
A lot of Airbnbs in Ithaca are not great, but if you don't mind typical older Ithaca house — ancient furniture and appliances, floors that are maddeningly unlevel — then you can find some nice places in Fall Creek. The City of Ithaca recently made it harder to operate properties as short-term rentals, so I'm not sure how that has affected the number of units available this fall.
I was in the process of making a reservation at the Best Western for the Clarkson-SLU weekend, and at the last step I realized what I thought was the total cost for two nights was actually the cost per night. Yikes!
RIP Hillside Inn.

Isn't the Hillside Inn now the Dorm Hotel (https://thedormhotel.com/)? Where else in Ithaca can you sleep in a room reminiscent of freshman year, on a raised bed with drawers underneath, and under the watchful eyes of Dr Fauci and RBG?

I've stayed there a few times. It's a nice hotel although many of the rooms are smaller and it fills fast on popular weekends like Homecoming or Reunion. Very convenient to campus and Collegetown. I believe it's run by at least one alum (Hotelie or ILR, I forget which).
That is way nicer than my UHall room.
The Grayhaven is a really amazing retro-motel that has undergone much renovation and is owned by a lovely local couple. Grayhaven Motel (https://grayhavenmotel.com/press/)
It is not Parents Weekend, that's the week before, and it is not TCAM (trustees, council, alumni leaders annual meeting) two weekends before. None of those are home football games. So ... maybe there's just a shortage of hotel rooms.
Looks nice, although the location could be better. Close to Wegmans, I guess.
We ended up making a reservation at the Embassy Inn on Dryden Road, which is also a bit far out of town, but was relatively cheap.

3 miles, 6 minutes by car is not that far from Lynah. $225 a night will certainly help their profitability. One might find it upscale if you lived in U-Halls.
Possible housing competition with Cornell football on the road and Parents Weekend the week before: It is Ithaca College Parents [now called Family] Weekend.
