Title: Cornell at the Olympics
Post by: David Harding on July 31, 2024, 10:03:34 PM
In addition to the Cornell athletes competing in the Olympics https://cornellbigred.com/news/2024/7/19/general-cornell-at-the-2024-olympics.aspx,  we have representation in the design of the gymnastics leotards on prominent display.   https://cornellsun.com/2024/07/31/jeanne-diaz-10-designs-leotards-for-womens-olympic-gymnastics-team/

The first gold medal for Cornell in the Summer Games since swimmer Pedro Morales in 1992.

Wonder if the Teagle Hall pool was less filthy in Morales' era? Today's Teagle might prepare Olympians for swimming the Seine.

With Cornell's increased outreach to alumni and supporters in the Moorish Era, one can imagine more calls for support to honor our Olympian athletes and foster a positive environment for the next generation.

Morales didn't swim for Cornell but got his undergraduate degree at Stanford; he got his JD in Ithaca.

Cornell did a nice job carefully choosing words. But then Morales won that gold in the era, almost, of clever wordsmiths such as cunning linguist Bill Clinton arguing;

"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the—if he—if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not—that is one thing." ... and I thought it was hard to diagram a Donald Trump sentence.

Wonder how much Rudy brings home in NIL money.

I see Winkler has computer science degrees from Cornell and then Rutgers. He's not going to starve if he stays current in the field.

Rough Olympics for the American men. We Qualified four in Greco and went 0-5. Qualified at all six weights in freestyle and, even without Russia, are leaving without a gold.

57 - Spencer Lee, silver (Iowa)
65 - Zain Retherford, 0-1 (Penn State)
74 - Kyle Dake, bronze
86 - Aaron Brooks, bronze (Penn State)
97 - Kyle Snyder, bronze? (tOSU)
125 - Mason Parris, 0-1 (Michigan)

Good thing we sent the women! Gold from Sarah Hildebrandt and Amit Elor, bronze from Sarah Maroulis, and Kennedy Blades wrestles for gold tomorrow.
