Coach Schafer sent an email alerting the community to an "important announcement" via Zoom today, 4:50pm EDT. Link: https://cornell.zoom.us/j/94730612532?pwd=xJBqxwUVNhRTcb1Q7vTKi5iyBVN4P5.1
Retirement?
Ben Russell as assistant coach?
The website says so now, and I don't remember seeing it anywhere.
Other than retirement wonder if it might be a major donation.

An endowment to support player salaries. ;-)

Ben Russell was promoted to assistant coach at the beginning of the 23-24 season. Old news.
I am endlessly behind the times.
Meh. Casey Jones is underwhelming
CHN, via John Buccigross: (https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2024/06/13_Clarkson-Head-Coach-Casey.php) Casey Jones coming on board as associate HC, to succeed Mike Schafer following the 2024-25 season.
Wait. She's hiring an Associate Coach for the next year instead of just promoting someone from within as an Interim Had Coach! How dare she break with tradition like this!
Follow-up Zoom introducing Casey at 5:15pm EDT: https://cornell.zoom.us/j/94715589751?pwd=mqwQuBZYI1TBuv3kS8bVdE5JKyfpQa.1

Totally disagree. He was a great recruiter at Cornell, has done well with a program in a tough spot at Clarkson. I think he can be great.

While anything can happen, I agree. It's tough to follow a legend, but Casey's gotten some excellent talent up to Potsdam, and you have to believe he'll have a great opportunity to succeed at Cornell.
One interesting note: Nicki Moore said on the Zoom call that the discussion about the succession plan kicked into high gear after Ben Syer took the Princeton job. Not sure whether to take that as they wanted more stability in the coaching staff as a whole before they brought in a new head coach or if Syer had indeed been considered the guy who'd replace Mike Schafer.

Plus it screws Clarkson.

Clarkson is truly screwed.
