A few Cornell lacrosse updates that may be of interest:
COACHING STAFF. Earlier this month, former Cornell defenseman Ben DeLuca '98 was promoted to top assistant and defensive coordinator, replacing Bill Wilson, who took Dartmouth's head coaching position earlier in '03 after one season on the Hill. Just this week, it was announced that former CU midfielder (and All-American) Pat Dutton '99 would become Cornell's "junior" assistant. Both played under Tambroni when he was an assistant himself, both were captains, and both are from western New York. And, of course, both are young and relatively inexperienced. I think it's the first time that Cornell has had an all-alumni assistant coaching staff.
SCHEDULE. It appears that the schedule may have been upgraded with the surprising and unprecedented addition of a game in Chapel Hill against the University of North Carolina (Tuesday 23 March, 7:00 pm). Don't know yet whether this is a substitution or an addition. It's possible that the UNC game replaces the unusual two-year series against Georgetown, which means that it's not necessarily an upgrade. [Source: laxpower.com's forum]
It figures the minute I move to DC they cancel the Georgetown series.
OTOH, since we're playing the Hoyas in football at home this year, maybe we're going their next fall.
(I looked it up. Football plays Georgetown at home in 2003 and 2005, and at Georgetown in 2007.)

My memory isn't what it once was, but I was read the schedule YESTERDAY(!) and my recollection is that we'll have Hofstra, Georgetown, UNC, Syracuse, Hobart and the Ivies on the schedule. There are two more games replacing Canisius and Colgate on the schedule. Stony Brook may be one and I can't for the life of me remember the other.

Where did you see the schedule? Cornell's site only has the 2003 sched/results.
I can now confirm that the Georgetown series is still alive and well, which is great news (and not just 'cause I live in DC). According to the official GU lax website, Cornell will be playing at Harbin Field in Washington on Saturday 6 March at 1:00 pm. I think one can assume that it won't be part of a doubleheader with Syracuse anymore, though.
I can't confirm any other non-conference opponents (or non-traditional opponents, if you know what I mean). As big red apple reports, Cornell hasn't posted their '04 schedule yet. Neither have Colgate, Hofstra, Canisius, or Penn State--or Stony Brook, for that matter.
Another HUGE piece of Cornell-related lax news that I forgot to mention above is that Schoellfkopf will be hosting the NCAA lacrosse "North" quarterfinals this year (the University of Virginia is hosting the "South" quarterfinals). The games will be played on Saturday and Sunday, 22-23 May.
doh
dont like those dates for teh quarterfinals - i am getting married that saturday :) dont need more traffic! ::nut::
I was read the schedule over the phone by someone close enough to the program that I think it's accurate. My memory is pitiful, though. I still can't remember that last game.

Further incentive for Cornell to finish in the top 4 in hockey -- then y'all can come down and watch Lax play in DC during the ECAC bye week and we DCers (at least 3 I can think of) can show you around.
Thanks for posting the schedule, Peterg.
Cornell loses Canisius, Colgate, and Penn State from the 2003 schedule, adding Binghamton, Stony Brook, and North Carolina for 2004. That's a slight net gain, if you go by Ratings Percentage Index rankings of the last couple of years.
Some potential firsts:
* Can't remember Cornell ever playing three night games.
* Can't remember Cornell ever playing two games in the "South" in any recent regular season. That's a lot more travel than usual, but the DC area has become a major recruiting hotbed, so it's a pleasant surprise to see the Georgetown series continuing.
* I don't think there's ever been a more difficult pair of season-opening games in Cornell lax history than Hofstra and Georgetown on the road. Interesting to be playing Hofstra two years in a row in Hempstead. Always nice to get exposure on L.I., but this has the nasty smell of a scheduling concession.
Question: Did anyone get over to see Cornell play at the Genesee (sic) Valley lacrosse tournament in Parkton, MD this weekend? They scrimmaged Towson and Bucknell.
