Got this e-mail from another BU fan about two former Terriers appearing on the big screen:
"Mike Hyndman ('70) won the role of Cornell's Francois LaFleur, who punched out Harvard's Ryan O'Neal in "Love Story." If you recall, Mike told us that O'Neal couldn't skate a lick and he had to hold the actor up by the back of his pants, while whaling away with the other hand.
The second answer is new Islanders coach (and a teammate of Hyndman)Steve Stirling ('71), who was an extra for a brief shot in "Slapshot." There was a small mention on the Islanders' site Sunday which grew into a feature story in Newsday today. Steve relates how between takes Paul Newman would play shinny with the extras at one end of the rink.
Compare that with Hyndman's account that O'Neal was so obnoxious (and repeatedly walked onto the concrete steps in borrowed Harvard hockey skates) that Bill Clearly threatend to kick him out of Watson Rink."
That must've been a strange experience for Hyndman to slip on that Cornell jersey after all those battles with the "real" Big Red for three years. ;-)
