I was amazed to see Vesce listed only one behind Vanek, and Vanek below Saviano...until I noticed the list is alphabetical.

Shh...this list ranks Vesce above Noah Welch of Harvard...the way it should be. ;-)

Better still: above Pettit and Jessiman.:-P

Luckily, no Pettit or Jessiman on the list at all.  Though, now that I look at the list again, I realize that there are eight forwards, one defenseman, and one goalie on this list.  Is it just me or does that seem a little unbalanced?

Not really.  If last year is any indication, a goalie isn't going to win for a long time.  And it is very hard for a defenseman to win also.  Chicks dig goals.

By the way, I didn't like reading in the Welch profile that Harvard is the favorite to win the ECAC. Do people agree?  I know we lost a lot, but the classes of '06 and '07 appear to be loaded - and capable of competing this year.

The consensus I've heard is that Harvard is the ECAC favorite for 2003-2004, especially with Lenny gone.  I could live with them winning the RS (although it'd be sort of a shame to see the Cleary won by a program that would treat it with respect :-}) and then getting upset by the Red in the ECACs.

I think most any objective analysis would have to pick Harvard as the pre-season favorite.  No matter how talented the '06 and '07 classes may be it's hard to judge how they will perform.  Maybe in December things will look different but until then...

Indeed.  In reality, it's really the internet buzz that's all saying Harvard is the favorite.  I think people say that because Harvard was already the #2 team last year and now has the least question marks--of the top scorers on the team, only two were seniors last year; in fact, the next senior is at #14.  And, for as much as we rag on him at the games, Grumet-Morris is actualy a good goalie.  Cornell, by comparison, lost its #2-#5 scorers, not to mention LeNeveu.  This isn't to say that our incoming freshmen and returning upperclassmen won't end up mopping the ice with the entire ECAC this year, or that Marr, Chabot, and/or McKee can't be even better than LeNeveu was last year.  However, with the exception of Marr for four games, these guys are pretty much untested in NCAA waters.  So, until we get a few games into the season, everything's up in the air for Cornell.  The good thing about this, of course, is that the target is off Cornell's back.  The conference is Harvard's to lose, and with any luck, ours to win. :-D

Given his inclusion in the Hobey watch, it's odd that Vesce doesn't appear anywhere in this other INCH effort:

He's the only one from the Hobey list (other than Ohio St's R.J. Umberger who has since left school) that didn't get included. I guess different authors were behind the two articles.

Or maybe INCH just sucks and we should pay them no heed. :-D
