Lacrosse is too active to be a season thread. The page count, especially on mobile, quickly becomes unreasonable. Also, it came up in the basketball thread, so...
Here's the video link for the Denver game. Doesn't look like you need to pay, and they archive the games. https://denverpioneers.com/watch/?Live=759&type=Live
EDIT: Whoops. missed that there was a signup/subscription.
it would be nice if Athletics actually said thats its a pay link on the schedule page. if you just take a quick look you woudnt know and some may jump in sat expecting to watch and not pay the $9.

So, we have different ethoses at work:
- Andrew Dickson White: "Truth for truth's sake."
- Lazy, Underpaid Intern: "The minimum effort needed."
- Aspiring Corporate Magnate: "There's a sucker born every minute."
Clearly, A.D. White's ethos is not operative. The other two may be.

i don't mind that they don't say it on the schedule page - it's a simple link on a template - but the game preview should say it.

The other two may be the same individual ;)
the real question is for $9 do you get HD quality and camera operators that can track play ?
I'm not going to spring for it, but I looked at the archived highlights of other games and the quality was pretty good.
FYI, the general admission ticket price is $25 per person plus fees for online purchase. Not sure about DU students but the "discounted" price announced by the Cornell Club of CO was $20. I will never complain about the price of admission in Ithaca again.
hockey and lax are $21+ on the site.. Womens Lax is $13+
hockey tickets are pretty expensive too in much of the arena.. Though the $200 includes an all you can eat bufffet.

$25 for a regular season lacrosse game? ::wtf::

Can ticket sales be used to generate NIL $?
I have family birthday things today, so I can't watch. If anyone does pay the $9, could you post updates? Thanks!
2-2 with ~3mins left in 1st.
Both teams with long possessions, both goalies with some good saves
3-3 end of the 1st
general observation, both teams having a few footing issues. clear weather seems like the turf shouldnt be slick
wings getting involved in faceoffs, Cornell holding their own and so far more groundballs than violation/push without possession calls
3-3 after 1
Cascadden losing footing going for faceoffs
Not Cascadden. Psyllos. Dont think Cascadden made the trip.
Cornell dodge whistled because player had mouthguard out
Cornell scores on restart to take 6-4 lead
Denver scores on next possession 6-5 Cornell leads by 1
Petrakis comes in for faceoff change of pace
obvious hold against Davis trying to clear goes uncalled
change of possession shortly after that I didnt catch
7-5 Cornell, with 2:25 left in the half
Cornell takes a timeout (probably just to settle and maybe rest / combat high altitude)
Bill Tierney in the booth
interesting to hear his calm voice giving commentary
Great info! Thanks guys!
Gilmartin stays on and scores in transition
faceoff viol on Pios, Cornell on EMO
Cornell briefly has a 2man EMO
weird deflection leads to Pio break out, they score (longstick goal)
now 8-6 Cornell with 40secs left
Cornell restarts with 30seconds, Long gets hands free with 15 seconds left but sails one over the top
Buczek calls timeout on backup and Cornell will restart
Long restarts from behind the goal, throws to Wirtheim as he is falling and Cornell scores... 9-6
Denver scores in 10seconds, 9-7
Wirtheim gets his 2nd of the day
10-7
Kelleher scores at the end of EMO
11-7
Denver scores on a slow slide
11-8
Psyllos back in and wins a clean faceoff
Denver going on the EMO
2min non releaseable
11-9 after Pios score
Pios still man up
Pios get another on EMO 11-10
Cornell wins faceoff still down, then gets a call, and Firth scores, now 12-10 Cornell
Cornell causes turnover on ride, Caddigan from behind feeds Kirst on the crease, 13-10
Is Kirst being shadowed or doubled?
Caddigan to Wirtheim 14-10
Denver had pushed up as Cornell was struggling to advance past midfield, then got hung out when Cornell broke through
my lax IQ isnt that high =P
mostly shadowed I think
Kirst just got crosschecked in the back off ball in to the crease, but gets the call against him
then a penalty for mouthing off at the referee
Pios end up 2 man up (?)
score easily, 14-11 with 2:30 left in the 3rd
Homer commentary unbearable. No credit to Red for good plays.
Cornell still 2man down, no idea what the non-releaseable call was
Tierney not lacking in stuff to say but cant seem to comment on the penalty or why it was not released
Knust makes an amazing save, but then the ball is blocked on the outlet and Denver scores on the outlet
14-12
still 2men up !?!
back to even strength
14-12 Cornell leads at end of 3 periods
Denver had a shot go off the top pipe that might lifted the goal
Is JJ Lombardi hurt, no sign of Aiden Blake, and what's happened to Christopher Davis is he hurt as well?
Denver going on the EMO again
another locked in penalty
another call against Cornell as players get tangled on Cornell clear attempt
these refs are fully inserting themselves in the game
14-13, 12 to play
cornell still man down
tied up 14-14
hard to play down a man (or down 2 men)
Wirtheim have a great game
assist to Firth, 15-14 Cornell
15-15
16-15 Denver, score off the faceoff
Pios on EMO again
I have no idea the penalty, Cornell player lost stick on D and Pio tripped on it
they score 17-15 Denver with 5mins left
Cornell shoots off the post, retains possession 2mins remaining still down 2 (15-17)
Cornell scores on rebound, trailing 16-17. 1:43 left
Denver wins faceoff, difference of 19 in shotclock
Cornell intercepts pass advances and coach calls timeout. 1min left
Kirst loses ball, but Denver gets called for push on GB scramble
unforced passing error with 22 seconds left, ball going to DU
Cornell loses 17-16
Final: Cornell 16, Denver 14, Denver Refs 3
time expires, Denver wins 17-16
I would guess coach will have some choice video clips and words for the NCAA officials if they have any system like hockey does
A tough lesson for Kirst to not yell at the refs, unfortunately the turning point of the game letting the Pios get back in the game on that unreleasable
well that's all folks
I look forward to going back to lurking and letting the knowledgeable fans post the game threads =P
dont forget to cancel your garbage monthly SidearmSports subscription (apparently Sidearm has day passes, but not offered for this game)
Never have seen a game with two 2 minute minute unreleasables.
Miserable loss for the Big Red. Up 4 goals twice and outscored 5-2 in the 4th quarter. Beaten regularly at the face off X (only 15-37) Too many unforced errors in second half and too many undisciplined penalties (DU 5-7 with the extra man).
Let's hope we don't look back at this one at the end of season with regret.
never seen the mouthguard out get called in the middle of a dodge
the Kirst violation was so obvious and the ref was right there (not he could have missed the push and just turned to see Kirst already on the ground in the crease
Davis getting mugged at midfield was also an obvious call right in front of the ref
0-4 vs. 5-7 on emo was the difference
Let this be a lesson that Kirst needs to be more selective about his shooting and this team's is defensively garbage and needs some fixing asap if they want to do something meaningful. Whats up with so many turnovers and so few faceoff wins. (I know nothing about lax)

Hell, I regret it NOW.:-(
quick note, a tough loss but lets not get down on the team too much
lost by 1 on the road to a team with 2 more games under their belt, our top faceoff man not on the field and a challenging officiating crew
I have great faith in the team and coaching staff
Tough loss, and hopefully not a major factor for late season PWR
Same as the hockey team, the margins can unfortunately be very thin for those at large bids
Even more bad news from the fanlax forum:
Quote from: ChadCascaddenHate to be the bearer of bad news but Jack tore his left ACL in Thursday practice. Freak injury. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just plant, cut, boom. As you can imagine he's gutted by it all.
Defense was actually pretty good 6 on 6. The unreleasable penalties got us. And on the faceoffs we were pretty even when you subtract out all those with NO WINGS cuz we were 2 men down. ANNNND we were without out Cascadden, our best fogo, so we were going against one of the best in the country with our #2 and #3 guys. That was a very winnable game, even in spite of the FOGO situation.
To further bash the officiating, Michael Bozzi #5 broke his collarbone as a result of contact. No call....
I was at the game. I have never seen such bad officiating, from the perspective of calling or not calling penalties. They called the game like it was middle school lacrosse from what I could see. Has anyone ever watched a game with so many non-releasable penalties? Kirst's penalty was for unsportsmanlike conduct. I agree he should be penalized for mouthing off but non-releasable?
Denver scored 5 man-up goals, at least 4 of which were on the NR penalties.Even strength we were the way better team, especially given we were missing our best FOGO.
When DU beat Hopkins, I was impressed. Not sure I rate them as highly now that I see they likely get help at home from the west-of-the-Mississippi officiating.
I didn't see it but it sounds like a tough loss for a lot of reasons. I fully expect our guys to pick themselves up and recommit to great lacrosse.
I'm looking at the stats and one that stands out is the ground balls: 42 for Denver and 26 for Cornell. I'm curious if that stood out to people watching the game.
I'm not worried about this team scoring goals. I think our defense will determine how many games we end up playing this year.

Ground ball difference largely a result of faceoffs.

Especially faceoffs during the nonreleasable penalties. It is hard to win a faceoff when you only have one guy on the wing, or in the case of being 2 men down, NO middies other than the FOGO.
We weren't the only team with a tough day. Notre Dame lost to Georgetown.
Fo matter so much in Lax when you cant win them its hard to win.

Don't need a new game thread, but an easier day today vs. Hobart. Lead 21-5 with7 mins to go (only won 13 of 28 FO's)
Bench cleared at the start of the 4th quarter, including freshman goalie, Matt Tully.
Quote from: dag14Bench cleared at the start of the 4th quarter, including freshman goalie, Matt Tully.
23-7 final...Tully 5 saves, 2 goals; Knust 10 saves, 5 goals
and a couple goals called back as well.
not sure how replay can ever work at cornell with cameras stationed around the commons it seems.

I thought the Hobart game production was much better after they got the PBP man's Mike fixed. The half field view was substantially tighter than the Lehigh game, there were some nice field level shots, and PBP was better at identifying players.
It would be interesting to see the 3 goals.
0ne that didnt cross the line. I never went and tried to rewatch
One that the FO man scored I think the backside judge ruled some kind of interference when the D slightly jostled with our trailing longpole.. Had not effect on the play
One that we scored and I think the call was in the crease, I replayed it from the TV angle it didnt look like he went in at all, he might have touched the line but you can now if you dont go into the half circle and the ball scores before he touches the line?

Not sure about today, but in the old days, if an offensive player flicks a blade of grass with crease chalk, he's in the crease.
Tough loss for Cornell vs. Denver, but the Big Red took their frustrations out on Hobart yesterday winning by a whopping 23-7. I think we can all agree Cornell lacrosse probably has one of the toughest schedules this season, but that's what it takes to eventually land in the Final Four or win a national championship. Regardless it's going to be a fun lacrosse season on the East Hill and come to Schoellkopf to support the Big Red!
Cornell clobbered Hobart by 16 goals Tuesday (final, 23-7) and it got me to thinking, Why are we playing such a poor team, maybe we should schedule another top ten or top twenty team. There's a number of reasons why:
* Hobart is good competition (most years), it's a day trip, it's midweek.
* We do win more often: 20 of 23 times this century, all but 18 times going back to the Ned Harkness era (he coached lacrosse, too, 1966-68). From 2000 to 2024, 11 games have been decided by 1-5 goals. The only blowouts bigger than this week date back to Harkness/Moran late sixties era.
* We're supporting New York State lacrosse and tradition: The 140 games between the two make it the most-played, annual rivalry. (Syracuse interrupted the 108-game series that dates to 1920 to play Princeton last year, now it's back to Cornell.) We've also played Albany, Army, Colgate, Albany, Stony Brook, Binghamton, Siena. Some rivals seem to rotate off, others drop completely if they aren't competitive such as Binghamton, last played 2018, all 13 games (2004-2018) were Cornell wins.
* We've already got five of our 13 games against non-league teams this week rated top 20 – Denver, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Notre Dame – and four Ivy teams. No Southern teams, tho.
Old-timer stuff: Richie Moran almost closed the rivalry, or said he wouldn't play again in Geneva, after the team got pelted with beer cans during the 1974 game. I was on the sidelines photographing and it was a little unnerving. But the series continued the next year. In Ithaca.

Triple-header home action for three top-twenty Cornell teams:
Men's Lacrosse hosts #20 Ohio State, 12 noon, Schoellkopf Field. (Temp 47, 35% chance of rain.)
Also Women's Ice Hockey hosts game 2 of ECAC quarterfinals against Quinnipiac, 3 pm.
And Men's Ice Hockey hosts RPI 7 pm, RS finale (the Friday game as pushed back to 7:30 but not Saturday)
Let's see if Cornell can shake off that loss at Denver.

Atlantic Coast Conference. I was thinking of the geolocation of the school's main campus. My bad. But thank you for not using a wry smileyface at the end of your comment.

It was implied.
