Says Military Appreciation night. Are we getting camo jerseys tonight or just a salute to a guy who served in Korea and has voted against every winning Ithaca mayoral candidate in the last 25 elections?

Season ticket holders were encouraged to "return" tickets that we would not be using and Cornell would then distribute these tickets to campus veterans.
QuoteI will come to a time in my backwards trip when November eleventh, accidentally my birthday, was a sacred day called Armistice Day. When I was a boy, and when Dwayne Hoover was a boy, all the people of all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. They have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the Voice of God. So we still have among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind.
Armistice Day has become Veterans' Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans' Day is not. So I will throw Veterans' Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don't want to throw away any sacred things. -- Kurt Vonnnegut

Breakfast of Champions
Per Jason, Mack was cleared Wednesday so now it is a matter of building his strength back up. Same lines as against Brown.
Oh, right. That freak Cooper Black who is about 11 feet tall.
ESPN+ fixed the volume issue from last weekend so you no longer risk blowing out your eardrums.
The extra horizontal stripe on the D sweaters is an embarrassment to Dartmouth hockey.
Musa one of their best players IINM.
Quote from: TrotskyThe extra horizontal stripe on the D sweaters is an embarrassment to Dartmouth hockey.
And Dartmouth Hockey sucks.
Colgate up 1-0 on Harvard.
One of the announcers commented on how many people [students and townies] are at the game and how great it is to see the support. Since I see some empty seats, I am guessing attendance at the last home weekend wasn't great.

Shoulda gone with my first instinct.
Second consecutive home game in which we gave up just 1 SOG in the first period.
Do you even watch? There were barely any empty seats last weekend. You old timers really love beating the dead horse
UMD hosting #4 NoDak this weekend. A chance to help our SOS and take down a team above us in the polls. Go Bulldogs.
Quote from: Big DingusDo you even watch? There were barely any empty seats last weekend. You old timers really love beating the dead horse
No they are right - i was in section B and section a was very empty on the Friday UMD game
According to my embedded reporter the crowd looks and sounds great tonight.
Colgate and Harvard tied 1-1 start of second; no report from Brown at Q, yet.
Holy shit that shot is amazing.
I now live in Denver so I have to rely on what the camera shows but I was in Lynah for almost every home game until 2018. My comment was merely a reaction to the announcer's characterization of the attendance, not a judgement. People show up late. Now in the second period, most of those empty seats are gone.
Fusco...
You know, when one outshoots one's opponent 2 to 1, one usually has the lead.
I am fully prepared for Cornell to regress to the mean.
Let's go Red!
Second Dartmouth goal came after what seemed like five minutes in our end interrupted only by an occasional icing. At least they followed up the goal by immediately taking a stupid penalty. Haven't evened it up yet but a ton of pressure.
There it is. Robertson with a perfect feed from the goal line to Rego. 2-2.

It's clear as day on the broadcast that there were a relative ton of empty seats two weeks ago. They are not empty tonight. Can't see A but everything else looks 95% or more tonight, which is great to see.

Pretty damn full and pretty damn loud. Black is a different species.
I'm here and I would say it's sold out
Cornell better thru center ice and creating chances.. Dart is good if they get the puck control at protecting it..
We have had 5-6 pretty empty net looks and made 1. the 2 on 0 would have helped.
shots 51-23 or some number but 23-13 sog.. did we really miss the net 28 times
That includes blocks too.
RPI leading Clarkson; Gate up on Harvard early in the 3rd.
Gate and Harvard going into OT
So many chances in the third to no avail with under 3 left.
On to the shootout. let's get the ecac point i guess.
Cornell wins the shootout 2-1.
Seger pantsed Cooper Black.
Q won 5-1 tonight over Brown.
Quote from: SperrisCornell wins the shootout 2-1.
First ever ECAC shootout win for the Big Red in six tries (they won one against AIC last year)

A bigger goalie like that is always going to be susceptible at the five hole. No surprise both goals were low.
And given the appearance of the league this year, I could see Dartmouth being in the running for a bye if things go their way. They don't play in Hanover again for a while (tonight was the first of seven consecutive away games), but they should at least be hosting a round in the playoffs
A bit loose with the puck in their own end led to some close calls.. Dart is solid with the puck when they cycle.
At some point those odd man rushes need to pay off for Cornell.
Shootouts. Wheeeeeeeee.

Shoulda won in regulation, shoulda lost in OT, I'll take the extra point in a shootout as long as we win tomorrow.

I can't argue with that.

Here is a link to Ned Dykes' photos of the second UMD game (https://www.cornellhockeyassociation.com/photos/mens-ice-hockey-2023-24/nggallery/mens-hockey-2023-24/minn-duluth-w-3-0). Draw your own conclusions as to how full the rink was.
We were due for some bad luck but wow, how do we not score on any of those odd-man rushes, including the 2x0? We didn't come remotely close to executing on any of them. Dartmouth actually looked solid, but Cornell should have scored at least four goals. Also unclear what happened on the first Dartmouth goal, which came on a run of the mill slapshot from the blue line off a faceoff. Shane was slow to react or possibly just missed it. I didn't see any Dartmouth players near the crease to block his line of sight. Shane honestly just didn't seem locked in by the time the puck dropped.

3 ECAC teams remain without a conference regulation loss: Cornell, Q, and Dartmouth.
They may not suck.

I'm wondering if actually the shot hit the stick of the Cornell player who came up to the blue line to pressure the shooter.

I had a great view of the shot from my seat and it looked like an untouched, un screened shot, Shane should've had it.

Schafer said in his postgame interview the shot "hit something in front," so perhaps it did.

On the broadcast, it definitely looked like the shot changed direction and went higher than Shane expected it to. I thought it hit a Dartmouth player's stick but maybe not. It certainly wasn't clean

It is linked on the schedule (https://cornellbigred.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/schedule) which is great and I hope they continue that.
Not only was it great to see a full building last night, but from the comfort of my couch I thought the crowd was as loud as I've heard it lately for a non-Harvard game.

Important not only for our team, but I have to think that our prospective recruits watch our games on ESPN+.
Schafer made the point in the post-game that the fans had their butts in the seats right from the beginning, and how much that helps.
I hope words can be gotten out to the students (and townies) that the emotional advantage of Lynah Rink is real, and it starts -- or can start -- right in the pre-game skate. Our crowd, at its best, can beat a team before the opening faceoff.
First game I've been to at Lynah in 20+ years and it was deafening. I imagine if we take a commanding lead against Harvard how insane it might get tonight
The crowd was fantastic from an attendance and punctuality perspective, but C and D were sitting down and didn't participate in any of the cheers.
