Anne and I will be in Phoenix for the January games, in case anyone else plans to be there.
My partner and I (both '22) just got our seats - they seem to be selling pretty quickly. We're in Sec 108 on Friday & Sec 104 on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing other CU folks
I'm going to both games, but haven't bought tickets yet. Anyone know if the Cornell alumni association has a block of tickets, and how to get them if they did? It has been almost 15 years since I've been to a Cornell game. I live in California.

You should contact (https://cornelluniversity.imodules.com/s/1717/cc/club.aspx?sid=1717&gid=12&pgid=23854) one of the club leads. The last time the team played at ASU, there were definitely people from the alumni association who were there, because on the broadcast, you could see some people holding an association banner in the stands.
Thanks. Through a Facebook post I found after following your link, I found that the Cornell Club of Arizona did buy a block of tickets, but they are sold out and have a wait list. I asked if they could let me know the section they are in.
The Cornell Club of Arizona and I will be in Section 107.
So weird that we play two at Arizona State but we also may play them Dec. 30 in the Lake Placid Adirondack Winter Festival second day, depending on the outcome of Cornell-UMass and Clarkson-AState Friday games. For that, seats are available. And by the way, a lot of hotels are going $600-$1000 for Friday-Saturday.
[edit add] We will be in Phoenix/Scottsdale that week so Gwen and I are likely to be there for the Friday game. Both nights may be too much for our hosts.
I dont want to jinx anything starting a game thread
but a reminder that the game Friday starts at 9pm ET (7pm MT)
Saturday game is 7pm ET
looks like the stream on PAC12 Insider is free (?)

But not just the "apps," the providers. Am I right that if we're not already signed up with one of these providers - or can't sign up with them regionally - we can't get the game? I don't see a way for us to watch here in Brooklyn via FiOS or AppleTV.

Possible correction: Was able to install PAC-12 app on AppleTV easily and there's an icon for tonight's game, I just have no idea if it'll stream for free in an hour.
At 8:40 ET, I'm on the Pac12 Insider on the Roku channel. Watching a replay of a basketball game. Cautiously optimistic that our game will follow.
Best as I can tell, I simply cannot sign in with FiOS, so I can't watch.

Yep, game is live on the Roku channel, which is channel 325 on that platform
yes most devices like fire tv and roku have free live channels and this is on them. they have dozens of free sports channels.
After Psenicka cleaned up the rebound for the 1-0 lead, he somehow gets stopped on a 2nd rebound. Still not sure how he wasn't able to convert.
Despite what the announcers are saying I really don't see this one getting overturned.
You gotta be kidding me

Refs 2, Cornell 1, ASU 0
I hope to heck that call wasn't on Robertson, since he was plastered into the goaltender by the ASU player.
The announcer patting himself on the back for reading from the rulebook without referencing the rule regarding a defensive player pushing the offensive player into the goalie was a highlight.

Really a weak production overall. The announcers are subpar, the feed is herky-jerky, and replays are an adventure. I guess the Pac12 Network has already begun it's going out of business sale
Hell of a shift from castagna.
Quote from: chimpfoodHell of a shift from castagna.
Quite true. But the PP was disappointing. A lot of fancy nothing.
Now the announcers are wrong about how overtime works with the pairwise. Not to mention how they said the player who got ejected for a cross check to the head just has to control his stick better. Yikes.

Yeah, the comment about "controlling the stick" had me howling. He had no idea what he was saying.

Weirdly I was able to watch the game on Samsung TV on my Samsung phone but it was a black screen on my Samsung TV using that same Samsung TV app. I'm watching the game with XUMO on my Onn box. Who's on 1161, what's on Onn?

On so many levels. While we certainly seemed to get hosed on the 2nd overturned goal, the fact is our power play could have salted this game away, but we failed miserably.
a game that should be up 4-5 and let it get tied..
most odd man rushes we have had all yr and we cant score on them or the PP
Even though we won I haven't been this pissed off in a minute. Robertson is damn good though.
ASU deserves to lose after their announcer gushed about how Cornell's dmen were afraid to go to a shootout.
Would they even have a shootout if OT ended in a tie? No, right?

Huh. Well, it was still dumb. And why only the defensemen?
Not sure I would say ASU dominated the 3rd.. They scored but they only got 5 shots and cornell possessed the puck for much of it.. The one post shot loomed large as it came right before the 2nd ASU goal.
3x3 we had several chances with speed as well.
PP is gonna haunt this team all year.

Because the defenseman don't get a chance in the shootout????
I was listening to Jason. My Tunein feed 3 or 4 times cut to commercials during the play by play. Was this true for everyone?
Also USCHO pairwise has us at 17. ASU still at 16.
Edit for Adam Woodon:
Why does the CHN website show Cornell at 17 in the pairwise while the Android app version of CHN hasn't updated?
Edit 2: I shut the app down, cleared the app's cache and the pairwise was then up to date.

I thought in both games against ASU we were the better team by a fairly large margin. But our failure on the power play has held us back from creating needed separation.
Although the game was often frustrating, overall I was pleased with our play, and we got a deserved result.
need to win tomorrow.
The colgate loss looms larger now.. we could be close to top 12 by now losing that and blowing the ASU leads.
the what if game is larger
beat colgate/mass/asu and we are in the top 10.
Games were there for the taking.
Lets see if we can control ASU again in chances and finally get some to go in.
Would have been nice (and deserved) to win in regulation. Cornell seemed to triple ASU's O-zone time. Pretty much everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong tonight. Cornell remains in perilous Pairwise position. Cornell really can't afford to lose many more games this season so tomorrow is critical, as upprdeck said.
Yes, we won, but it is probably the angriest I have ever felt after a win in my life.

They get a chance eventually (and Robertson probably goes before some of our forwards, honestly).
To sum up: announcers, dumb. Road OT win against a good team, good, even if it was frustrating.
I am sorry to be redundant on this, but there are many reasons our PWR has suffered and I think the biggest is that we lost to a team which has one win all season!

I was listening in the car on Troy on the way to the RPI- Clarkson game. A better crowd here tonight but in general attendance has been poor @ RPI. Almost no students last night.

Why do we commit three penalties in ten minutes with a 3-0 lead? Holding leads has not been a strength this season.
I'm young, but I have never seen delay of game called on a play like that unless a player literally takes the puck in their hand.
These announcers aren't the very worst, but they're... not homers so much as treating ASU as the main character? They have nothing to say about Cornell or its players.
Ugh they just called us Colgate.

Students, so I cut them a bit of slack. But I've watched SU students call games (soccer comes to mind) and they are far more polished.
Not really wanting to think about it.. But if you wrote the tallys down I think Cornell has 20+ odd man rushes and breakaways and the PPs in that game with no scores until the mishandled empty net play turned into a goal.
We end the season undefeated in non conference play, very impressive, especially given the strength of our opponent. Now we just need to stop blowing it in the ECAC.

I feel a second half run coming on. Won't catch quinnipiac but I like us to finish the regular season in 2nd place. Then see what happens.

honestly I would be hugely disappointed with anything other than second. Brown and Yale are top 4 in the league right now which is a joke.

So, what shall we complain about tonight fellas? Bearlover you're up
we held a top 15 scoring team to almost no chances in the 2 games.
the only thing the PP is doing is running down the clock
we had more quality chances on the PK than the PP
Quote from: Big DingusSo, what shall we complain about tonight fellas? Bearlover you're up
I wasn't able to watch much this weekend. But Cornell dominated play from what I did watch. (Said this last night too.) I'm realistic about when Cornell plays well/badly, unlike you perhaps.
If you need something to complain about, the PP and odd man rushes have been awful. Cornell is confused about how to execute odd man rushes. Badly timed passes, shots going straight into the goalies' feet. I don't know if it's a talent thing or what. Sometimes the opposing goalie makes a good save. But I think BU would have scored on at least 5 of our 12 or so odd man rushes that we have this weekend. (We scored on 0.) Even Princeton or ASU or whoever seem have much better skill/poise in these situations and convert at a much higher rate.
Ok calm down. No need for the trash talk
Cornell plays with a lot of speed and skill these days. But we still don't seem to have the sense/poise to make the right play on split-second decisions. On odd-man rushes and A-B-C passing plays (especially on the PP), these decisions need to be bang-bang-bang and Cornell doesn't seem to have the wherewithal to do this successfully. Maybe it's the type of kid Cornell recruits, but again, there is so much skill and speed on this year's team that I don't think that's really the issue. Castagna/Seger/DeSantis have great hands and the team skates really well, we just can't seem to ever make the right split second play. I guess it's not a focus of the coaching staff.
This season has been the Robertson and Seger show so far. It is promising that Psenicka and DeSantis have finally started producing. This seems like a good team, but when we're scoring it's usually just the product of sheer number of chances/sustained possession rather than fast break/passing plays.

Yeah, Robertson and Seger (along with Shane) have been our best players so far in my eyes. Robertson was a revelation against ASU. Nothing against Stanley and Fergaras, who are more than holding their own as freshmen defensemen, but I'm mystified why Robertson wasn't also drafted last year. If he keeps improving I think he, similar to Malinski, will be a priority free agent by multiple NHL teams.

Robertson should be eligible again in this year's draft, so it seems like a decent shot he will be taken by someone.
