Cornell 6 5 2 3 – 16 Winning Team
Brown 4 2 3 0 – 9 Losing Team
Kirst 6 3 – 9 on 7 SOG / 12 Shots plus 3GB (only Cascadden 5, Adler 5 did better)
Long 2 2 – 4
Coyle 2 1 – 3
Wirtheim 2 1 – 3
Ierlan 9GA 8SV 47%
Brown 16GA 9SV 36% (10% after Cornell's 9th goal)
Shots (at goal not on-goal) were close, ditto clears and ground balls. Brown won 17 of 29 faceoffs. Only one EMO, by Brown, their last goal.
Cornell did not seem as aggressive on offense in the second half as the first. But the defense only allowed 2 goals in the second half, none the final 21 minutes. So there is that. I thought Ierlan's save percentage (before I saw the stats) were closer to 60 than 50 percent. Goaltending will not be our weak spot in the postseason.

In addition to wanting to win the Ivy title (need to beat Brown and Princeton to win outright), Cornell needs every win in case it gets upset in the Ivy tournament: to get a better seed and hopefully play at home in the first round. Nine teams auto-qualify for the 16 spots (plus a two-team play-in to be the sixteenth team). Going into the 4/29 games, Cornell & Princeton are 3-1 Ivy, Penn and Harvard are 3-2. Today's games are Harvard at Princeton and Dartmouth at Penn.
Thanks, Bill!
Cornell 1 - Brown 0.
Big Hugh down the alley and a bounce shot.

2-1 Brown
Brown turned the corner and beat Ierlan low.
2-2

3-2 Brown
Brown player dodged to the top of the zone and shot hands free. The slide was late.
Shortsticks need to step up.

4-3 Cornell
CJ dodges left across the face of the goal and scores.
5-3 Cornell
CJ dodges down the alley and scores. Made it look easy.
6-3
Billy Coyle around the back of the goal and the question mark into the five hole.
6-4
Cornell turnover and Brown goal in the unsettled situation.
1st quarter, Cornell 6 Brown Bears 4
Brown started strong with possession time and shots. A couple of late slides allowed two goals. But because of good defense and bad passes, Brown had a lot of turnovers.
Cornell has a lot of opportunities to score goals. The Brown defense does not seem particularly stout, and Cornell's ball movement is really good right now.
7-4
On the clear, pass to Staub (long pole) on the doorstep and he scores.
8-4
Good pass to Wirtheim at mouth of the goal and he drains it.
9-4
Crease violation Brown Bears. CJ stepped down from the top of the zone.
9-5
Brown is sending cutters from top to bottom with the ball at X. Found one in front.
9-6
Brown dodges down the left alley before Follows can help and beats Ierlan.
10-6
Outstanding ball movement around and back and forth until they find Long free hands on the wing.
Brown has a slight advantage at FO 8-10.
11-6
Coyle at X finds Wirtheim waiting for a bus in front of the goal.
A Gilman from Brown ends the first half, Cornell in the lead 11-6.
The camerawork is outstanding and the announcers are fine.
11-6 at the half.
12-6
CJ is playing a little X! Swings the ball around the horn and find Long on the wing and he drains it.
12-7
Brown finds a player sneaking up the left doorstep.
12-8
Brown stepdown from the top of the zone. Late rotation after the slide on the passer.
O getting sloppy. Brown creeping back. 12-8
12-9
EMO goal for Brown. It looked like a possession push. A minute seems excessive.
12-9 EMO
Quote from: Al DeFlorioO getting sloppy. Brown creeping back. 12-8
That was maybe the third bad pass turnover for Coyle.
CJ quiet lately
13-9
Kirst finds Coyle across the front of the goal.
Brown defense is playing better now.
13-9 on Coyle goal.
Big goal to stop run 13-9. Need a stop.
13-9 Cornell end of the third
Brown is locking up more on defense. Cornell is moving the ball less.
Brown also winning more faceoffs; 16 of 26.
14-9
Beautiful skip pass from CJ to Lombardi.
Mikey Long is moving really well today.
Not at all meant as a criticism, but really nice to see CJ letting the offense come to him a bit more. 7 of his 15 assists in the last 4 games, and for as prolific a goal scorer as he is, there were some times earlier in the year where there was a fear the offense was too one-dimensional/reliant on him. Long being back maybe a big part of that shift.
15-9
B. Piatelli squeezes one through a mousehole from behind the GLE.
16-9
CJ soft tosses the ball into an empty net.
16-9 Cornell win.
I thought Cornell would score at least 20, but Brown played better defense in the 3rd, and Cornell was not executing its offense as well as it did in the first quarter.
The Brown Bears have a good faceoff guy, but Cornell won a share and had good wing play. Overall a good ground ball day for the good guys.
Ierlan was solid.
Princeton next week should be a good one!

+1
Princeton leading Harvard 11-6 at halftime
I had my doubts about Chase in the first half -- he had one save, giving up 6 goals. He didn't look like he was seeing the ball well. Not all of Brown's goals were his fault, however, since at least half of their goals were on plays where they beat the D or sneaked a pass inside. In the second half he made saves he didn't in the first [7 of his 8 saves were in the second half], ending up at 47%
Was Jayson Singer not on the field today?
Never mind: I see from the box scores that he was in and had one GB.
