Nice story (https://dailygazette.com/2023/01/04/tupker-twins-set-to-face-each-other-friday-when-ben-and-union-mens-hockey-host-zach-and-cornell/) on the Tupker twins playing against each other for the first time ever.

On one hand, it's great that we have depth in our lines and can roll out four balanced lines.
On the other hand. I feel like we are shaking our lines up pretty radically every game.
People jeep getting hurt (Stienburg this time).
Union was outshot 72-27 last weekend against UNH and somehow won both games. And while UNH isn't great to say the least, that's...something.
Looking at the ceiling of the Union barn from ice level on camera it is so cool you'd never guess the place is a pit.

Did UNH use a goalie?
SEB!!! Great start.
Fantastic 1st period. Probably equals the 1st period against UCONN as the best of the season.
Yep, perfect in every respect.
I have no idea what Suda was thinking on that play
Fortunately only 2 minutes but a silly penalty indeed

Same as it ever was.
Same as it ever was.
After we do a great job killing the 5 on 3 Union cashes in to make it 3-1 after a scrum in front. Goal being reviewed.

I don't have an issue with certain goal reviews like this one, but the number and duration of reviews at this level is grinding the games to a halt. During a review in the first, the cameras just showed tons of kids in the stands bored out of their minds.
This pretty much sums up the game for Union

Cornell with 3 goals in 2:40 to drive the score to 6-1 after 2.

To be fair there is nothing else for the cameras to look at at Achilles. It's like a Day Care. Half the crowd is under 8.
Princeton beating Harvard 3-0 in the second at Hobey Baker. Good.
Great finish to the period. Malone finally breaking out as he's looked capable of doing for awhile. Other than taking some silly penalties we've looked great.
And kudos to the color guy, who's informative and has an understated style.

I almost wrote this earlier. He's been able to dissect plays very well, much like Pierson's Pointers back in the day on Bruins broadcasts.
The PBP guy is cromulent but he checked out after our third goal and has really just been bantering since.
Both have been extremely complimentary of Cornell's play and Schafer.

The little girl in the blue jacket taunting our guys in the penalty box has been amusing.
Nice family of Cornell women in the crowd, albeit the mother looked exactly like Krysten Sinema.

I thought she was fantastic. When the security dude warned her off during the long Suda review I booed at my computer.

After watching the World Juniors and Dave Starman, this is a nice change.
Camera has been bizarre, alternating a super close up with the puck always out of frame with a pan apparently filmed from the roof of Houston Field House.

Guess it's better than looking like Pelosi with her teeth almost falling out.

Working on his goal moves, trying to beat those awkward forward blues.
Cornell is looking far more dominant at winning and maintaining possession than they did at any point last season. If not for scheduling two games at Duluth to begin the season, we'd be one of the best Pairwise teams in the country. Let's see if we can keep it up.

Yes, our puck possession has been more noticeable this year. I'm not an analytics guy, but I'd be interested to see a comparison of the numbers.
We really lay the wood to bad teams, which should help us accumulate precious points against the bottom of the conference (https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/f2364304-3dc6-4e35-9f54-ab01f2e12c7e).
There's nothing too scintillating on it, but Ken Schott's podcast (https://open.spotify.com/episode/5B06SZn1CERppzvDqAu0sE?si=ITp1VPnjTuCLJN9F5mQNOw&nd=1) has all of the post-game quotes from both Cornell and Union.
I liked when Mike's post-game presser was on YouTube. They don't appear to do that anymore. :-(

Someone correct me if this data exists, but I believe time of possession is not publicly tracked for college hockey. The best we have is shot attempts, which does a decent job approximating possession. CHN's stats page (https://www.collegehockeynews.com/stats/) tracks a team's Corsi (percentage of total shot attempts) and Fenwick (percentage of unblocked shot attempts). CHN also provides these statistics "close," i.e. only with respect to the portion of a hockey game when the score is within one goal.
Our possession numbers are strong, by these metrics. Our Corsi is 8th and our "close" Corsi is 12th. Our Fenwick is 4th and our "close" Fenwick is 3rd. (Quinnipiac is #1 in the country in all of these except #2 in Corsi non-close.) With that said, there is a major caveat, which is that these numbers do not adjust for strength of schedule. Our SOS is 38th in the country. (Quinnipiac's is 39th.) Our numbers would obviously be worse if we were regularly playing other top teams. Also, we are dealing with small sample sizes, especially with respect to the "close" metrics. Many of our games this year have been blowouts and saw little time during which the score was within one goal. When the game is not close, the team that is behind will press harder and rack up more shot attempts.
Funnily, the 2019-20 team was 9th in Corsi, 9th in Corse "close," tied for 7th in Fenwick and 6th in Fenwick "close." Last year's team was 8th in Corsi, 9th in Corsi "close," 8th in Fenwick, and 9th in Fenwick "close." So, our "possession" numbers have been essentially unchanged the last three seasons, despite massively different results. (And our SOS was 38th and 39th in the last two seasons, so also essentially unchanged.) Are we an equally good possession team every year, and the only variables that change are shooting percentage and save percentage? That's what the numbers suggest, at least.
Anybody ever notice the inscription on the back of Keopple's helmet?

No, Trotsky. It's not from Lenin.

I'd want to know if shot quality and location had changed.
