i was just gonna post this :-)
might be the same story:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=canadienshiggins&prov=st&type=lgns
Bad news for the league. We need all of the impact players we can get. Of course, this could be good news long term if Higgins does well.
Especially considering he goes to eastern Canada.
The story is also posted now on USCHO.com
To be honest, I'm not really that surprised. Hey maybe he made a verbal committment to Yale first, telling them that he'd stay for sure, and then went behind their backs and signed with Montreal. Doesn't that sound like something he'd do? :-P
I'm glad that it doesn't seem like Lenny is going to do the same.

That story about Higgins and Cornell is not true, as has been discussed on this board previously.
For the benefit of the ECAC, I wish Higgins all the best....in Montreal.
However, for the benefit of the Big Red's chances next year, I'm glad to see him go. :-P

I know :) - it's just more fun to pretend it's true....

While we all wait with bated breath, Lenny presses on academically.

A 3.97 in biological sciences? Grrr. that is not possible. ::wow::

This reminds me of a story about the Hobey Baker ceremony. When reading Peter Sejna's credentials after he had been named the winner, they mentioned that he carried a 3.6 GPA at CC. Upon hearing that, 2 older UHN fans sitting behind me responded with a sound of surprise and awe: "oooohhh!!!" I had to chuckle to myself at the reaction.
Let's not get arrogant. CC is considered a very academically rigorous school. Just because he didn't go to Cornell doesn't mean he is academically inferior.

Sorry, that wasn't even in my thought process. No way did I mean to insinuate that I was putting down CC or pumping up Cornell. My amusment was in the fact that the fans behind me were amazed at the GPA. If anything, it was a dig at the UHN fans....read my post again...I chuckled at the reaction, not the GPA. All 3 guys up on stage got there because of their combination of hockey skill and academic stature, per the guidelines of the Hobey selection committee. I guess I've just come to expect academic excellence for those considered for the award.
One thing I'm not is an Ivy Snob, and I take offense whenever anyone calls me such.
Sejna got that 3.6 majoring in both Mathematics and Economics, which kicks my ass.

A certain percentage will call you a snob just because you're Ivy, no matter what. The supposed Proles are far more arrogant and snobbish than the supposed Elite.
In your opinion, anyway. ::rolleyes::
You have got to be kidding otherwise I second the ::rolleyes::

Not at all. Reverse-snobbery has far more political and social traction than snobbery. It's socially acceptable and the numbers are on its side. In an election campaign, it's an essential. Does Dubya call himself a Yale and Harvard man or just a regular guy Texan?
Oppositional identity formation motivates everybody. Everybody constructs their world so that they (through their identity with a group) just happen, accidentally of course, to be morally and ethically superior. Which means the other guy has to suck. This is just as true of the poor as the rich. Moreso, not because they're any different as people, but because there's no social consequence to holding the belief. It's a (highly electorally rewarding) national myth.
Or do you think that there's a group that's so superior that it doesn't do this? Now that really is a snobbish notion.

If Chris Higgins was reading this thread, he must be really confused by now :-P
I live in a small town where this reverse snobbery is quite evident. All you need to do to gain power in this place is insult a smart guy and/or profess your love for guns, trucks, and beer. It is probably more prevalent in small towns, which is why some of you may not have seen it.
Well, Chris Higgins is actually a distant relative of Henry Higgins, and Pygmalian was all about snobbery, so there's the relationship... ;-)
I know of one infrequent poster that graduated with a 3.96 in Bio (Cell & Molecular) so it isn't impossible. I'm curious to know how Lenny is gonna have time to count fruitflies during hockey season.
Of course, the all time Bio GPA record has to be Dennis Bailey. Rumor has it that Dennis called the Dean late one April and reminded the Dean that he had the highest GPA in his class, and had been somehow overlooked when class marshall's had been selected. As the story goes, it turns out that Dennis was right and they had overlooked him because he was talking all his classes at the Vet School senior year.
I mean, this guy makes Lowell look humble ;)

Worst bio lab partner everrrr... ::barf::
Edit: Dennis, not LowellPost Edited (05-27-03 13:40)
Okay, so the "400 club" is for student athletes with a 4.0 or higher GPA? Because it's just too easy if you're not also playing a sport? ::nut::
I suppose the real question is: with the rampant grade inflation at Harvard, why isn't the district All-Academic team packed with Harvard players?

I guess we've identified the 5% who aren't given summa. ;-)
I take offense at the above comments.
I might very well be the worst bio lab partner ever. But John, you can speak to this (if only indirectly). :-)

High mean with low standard dev?
Yeah, gasp, knock on wood!
