While we are waiting for our season to get started, UConn is already 6-0-1 and is just now getting the services of a highly-touted freshman who was a third-round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils. (https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2022/10/22_UConn-Freshman-Salminen-Set.php)

and not patsies either. Ohio State went to Storrs and UConn went 1-0-1 with a scoreless draw and a 6-1 drubbing. Then they beat BU in OT on the road.

Gee! Do you think Mike may have known what he was doing when he suggested UConn for the Garden game?
Definitely glad to be playing them - ND was a great chance to get some pairwise help last season and UCONN will no doubt be helpful to the same effect if they continue on this hot streak and we are able to defeat them
Didn't know this. How'd they get this kid?
"UConn freshman Matthew Wood is off to a torrid start. In six games, Wood has seven points (3g, 4a). Oh, by the way, he's 17 years old! He won't turn 18 until February. Wood is projected as a top prospect for the 2023 NHL Draft. The Hockey News has him No. 5 overall, and the consensus among most media outlets is that Wood will be a top-20 pick."

if he knew what he was doing he wouldn't have scheduled an opponent this dangerous!

I think the big issue was not being able to find people to play against and just taking what you can get this late in the scheduling.
I am 63.1% sure ugarte was doing satire. That is Mike Schafer's career winning percentage.
Requisite yearly comment: "RPI, which is pretty much the Pairwise, looks at record, opponents' record, and opponents' opponents' record, and all of these factors are separate, so we don't REALLY have to beat good teams, we just have to play good teams and win a lot of games. Also don't lose at home."

That sums it up, whether it makes sense or not.
U Conn versus Boston College now 5 + mins left in 3rd UConn up 2-1.
U Con is 6-1-1 and ranked 10th. Game on ESPN+.
Update 1+ mins to go and 5-1 lead for U Conn. 4th was ENG !
UConn up to No. 3 in Pairwise. We will definitely need to play better than we did against Q if we want to upset UConn at MSG.
My assumption is we are going to get our asses handed to us for the first time in a while (http://www.tbrw.info/seasons/2017/box20170325.pdf). I'll be pleasantly surprised if we aren't bombed out of the building.
I think this team has a chance to develop into a legitimate challenger for the league title in March, but UConn seems to already be at their best and we have a million loose ends and rough edges and other nautical metaphors of unpreparedness.
I'll be the optimist. We hung with Quinnipiac two out of three periods. We can skate with anyone.
cant take an 0-5 on the PP . Losing to a really good team is fine. As along as we dont see a 20-0 shot first period again i will be happy. This team has had so many guys in and out already its gonna take some time.

It was only 18-0 (http://www.tbrw.info/seasons/2023/box20221105.pdf).
the competition was worse but the coherence looked a lot better this past weekend. obviously there's correlation but i'm still optimitic that it won't be embarrassing.
"We can skate with anyone"?!! I once skated on Beebe Lake and I can still skate with anyone, but I just can't keep up. Sound familiar?
