Title: season tickets for non-students
Post by: jason on May 09, 2003, 04:47:24 PM
Did a quick search of the eLF archive but didn't turn up an answer. How would I go about getting (or trying to get) season tickets next year? My wife and I are moving back to New York and the way I figure it we'll be roughly 3 hours from Ithaca. I'd like to think that I could make a bunch of games this upcoming year, especially if I can convince my boss (a fellow Cornellian) to let me take a few half days on Fridays. I remember some discussions on here about members of the booster club getting tickets, but don't remember the details or how many tickets could be secured that way.

Alternatively, I gather that a bunch of people on here have season tickets but due to distance don't make all games, would you be willing to sell some of those unused weekends?

I think your best bet for season tickets is through the boosters (a.k.a. the Cornell Hockey Association).  They at least used to have a web site, but I can't for the life of me find it (looked for links on elynah, tbrw, uscho, cornellbigred.ocsn.com, cornell.edu, and searched with google and yahoo).  Hint to any CHA members reading this: might want to take some steps to make it easier for prospective members to find you!

In any case, I imagine that season tickets will be nearly impossible to get this year, even through the boosters - there generally isn't that much turnover anyway, and the team did pretty okay this season.  :-)

Good luck!

However, even if you don't get tickets, you can get on a waiting list, so it's worth doing.

If available, staff/faculty/townie tickets will go on sale in September after the student lottery/sale.  That was how we bought ours back in 1990-ish.  However, after a stellar season, you would be hard pressed to find these, as most, if not all, non-student ticket holders would opt to renew.  And that is the beauty of these ticekts:  You can renew them every year as long as you are willing to ante up $300+ for a pair.

You can check with the Athletic Ticket office and they should be able to advise you (perhaps later this summer) on the availability of townie tickets and the date(s) when they will go on sale.

Good luck!

They might want to update that site - they're still talking about the "annual trip to Lake Placid" :-(  ::screwy::

Everyone,
Thanks for the info; I'm definitely going to try to contact the booster club and see where that leads. And if anyone has more insight, I'd love to hear it. :-)

I got on the non-student season ticket waiting list 2 years ago through the ticket office.  Before tickets went on sale this year, I had them verify my address and phone to make sure I was still on the list.  I have no idea where I am on the list or how many people get off the list each year.

In the mid-90s, UVM fans bragged that there was a 20-year waiting list for tickets, but that seems pretty hard to prove.  Especially these days when sellouts are few and far between at Gutterson.

Hmm, it sounds like it was a good thing I got my seasons when I did.  The ticket office was discouraging when I signed up in the summer of 1999, but I was able to get into Section C on the first try.  Of course, that was after the least successful season of the Schafer era, so it looks like I hit it at just the right time.

Yeah - "20 year waiting list" means that there are 40 people on the list and two didn't renew their tickets this year.  One down year, and all 38 of the remaining people get their tickets 19 years ahead of schedule....  ::rolleyes::

And given the Can't-amounts' six (read: five and a half :-} ) down years running...

(edit: except when they play at Cheel, for some reason.)
