Title: [OT] Sarah Hughes to be an Eli
Post by: CUlater on May 05, 2003, 11:36:37 AM
I see that Sarah Hughes chose to attend Yale beginning next fall.  From the newspaper stories, it sounds like Cornell wasn't even on her list.

Yale needed a tougher defenseman to play with Callahan.

They were hoping Caron would transfer back.

Don't believe Sarah Hughes even applied to Cornell.  I recall hearing that she was accepted by Harvard in Early Action (non-binding).  If so, her choosing Yale must have caused quite a few in the Harvard Yard to scratch their heads (like when Chelsea Clinton decided to attend Stanford).  That is because Hahvahd has something like an 80+% "yield" and they really cannot fathom why one would pass up the chance to go to school in Cambridge.

They gave her a chance to talk Chris H. into staying for two more years! ::nut::

If you restrict the choice to those two, she picked the best school of 1975 over the best school of 1955.  Not a surprise.  B-]

(Now, why anybody would pick either today -- that's a surprise.)
