I see Jamie Russell is one of three interviewees for the Michigan Tech job. Anyone have an idea about his chances of actually getting the job? I'd hate to see him leave when the recruiting and the defense (his specialty) have been so good. Continuity is important, especially with four new defensemen coming in. I think Russell and Brekke have a lot to do with the team's recent success and probably deserve more credit than they get.
The defense is a system that is in place, so even if Russell were to get that job at Tech, I think the other coaches will do just fine maintaining the defensive system.
Not sure what the effect would be on recruiting though, mainly because I don't know his specific responsibilities as they compare to the rest of the staff. Regardless, I'm inclined to say that I'd be happy for him if he gets the job.
I'd be happy for him too, although from a Big Red perspective I'd rather see him stay because clearly he's a very good teacher of our "system."
It's also the mark of a good program and a good head coach to spin off coaches to other programs. Good luck to him.
