Title: Alumni in the news . . .
Post by: George64 on April 05, 2021, 09:08:29 AM
With Baylor in the NCAA Finals, Dave Bliss (https://rochesterdemocrat-ny-app.newsmemory.com/?publink=096352a1d) '65 is in the news again.

On a more positive note, MLB Commissioner, Rob Manfred, ILR '80, scrapped the All-Star game in Atlanta.

I had no idea Bliss was a Cornellian.  Meh, he worked under Knight, of course he was a POS.

Jesus fuck, we produced Manfred and Bettman?  We have a lot to answer for.

Same place, different memory.  I used to go to the Ithaca Hotel in the early '60s to watch NY Giants football.  No TV at my fraternity — how deprived we were.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but Hopkins Lacrosse has just been put on probation (https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/johns-hopkins-men-s-women-s-programs-penalized-for-financial-aid-errors/58005?utm_source=Inside+Lacrosse+Fastbreak+Newsletter&utm_campaign=873bc6c178-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_06_06_12_34_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_92eedbe203-873bc6c178-56173245) for violating NC$$ regulations regarding athletic scholarships.

Oops!    As a former Ivy and DII coach, Milliman probably should be forgiven for not knowing NCAA regulations about athletic "scholarships."

I think the infractions may have occurred before he took over. Justice and the NC$$ are incongruent.

She didn't.  She finished 16th in the individual competition, then won a silver medal in the mixed team relay a few days later.

On his second throw, Rudy surpassed the automatic qualifying distance, so he's in Wednesday's final.  I suspect the finals will produce some bigger throws than the qualies, and Rudy is quite capable of throwing over 80 meters, holding the American record at 82.71 meters.

Winkler finished seventh, (https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/athletics/result-men-s-hammer-throw-fnl-000100-.htm) with a top throw of 77.08. If he had been able to duplicate his American record throw, he would have won the gold.
