Note game times are 7PM EST unless otherwise noted. Especially, the game at Colgate is 7:30 & January western away games are MT or CT.
I'm assuming the Regionals and Frozen Four will be at sites previously picked, but due to COVID cancellations, that might change.
Also, the Regionals are now over 3 days. I'm not sure which Regionals are Thu-Sat & which are Fri-Sun. They are just listed as place holders.
As in the past, if you have info about errors or additions, post it and I'll update this.
Attached is the ECAC schedule, minus the traveling partners.

Any chance the @ASU weekend will still be there?
Quote from: French RageAny chance the @ASU weekend will still be there?
Hard to think of it as "still" - it's not like they took the 2020-21 schedule and just slapped "2021-22" on it. You'd have to have the same teams interested in and available for participating in the tournament. Keep in mind also, UNO is actually playing this season, though I'm not exactly sure what impact that would have on it. I'd love for it to happen, especially since we'll probably all
actually be able to travel by then, but I wouldn't count on it.
Especially in the case of ASU who uses a professional barn for their games. It isn't sitting idle the way a campus rink would.
Fixed the formatting in the schedule. No one complained.**]
Speaking of which, did they even put ice down at Lynah this year? Are they using the time to remedy some of the remaining longstanding problems?
AFAIK, the roof is no longer one slight breeze from collapsing, but I imagine a 60-year old building has a ton of issues just from wear and tear. I'm 58 and I sure as hell do.
Yes, they did put down ice at Lynah. What happened to that ice after the Ivy League cancelled winter sports, I do not know.

I just got confirmation from Phil Graham that there is still ice at Lynah.

IIRC, the last time at UND, the team flew via Winnipeg 140 miles away and that caused paperwork issues for non-US/Canada players. Maybe UND could loan us the team jet.

Yeah, he mentioned the whiplash of playing at ASU one weekend and at North Dakota the next.

Old Ez said "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any subject." Presumably this applies to ice hockey as well as other endeavors - and Cornell's words conspicuously do NOT specify a venue?

I've been meaning to go to this series since it was announced way back when, since I'm in South Dakota. I caught Cornell @UNO a while back. But we'll see if I'm willing to do indoor crowds by January.
If we aren't back to normal by January that means something really bad has happened, like a COVID-21 that needs a completely new vaccine.

I am ultra careful but my I assume utterly absurd and unscientific hope was:
(1) Reach herd immunity in, let's say, July.
(2) Some period of time passes in which the infection rate begins to decline, first slowly, then precipitously.
(3) By October or so we reach the point where the disease is now restricted to Republican enclaves, like drug addiction and teen pregnancy. And we with a prefrontal cortex are safe as houses to go back to normal.
The GOPers probably continue to get sick and die, but... win/win.

A few comments:
I grew up about 2 miles from that -35 degree sign. Ya, it's cold, dontcha know. However, it doesn't really matter if it is +20 or -20. In either case, the only time you spend outside is from the car to the house. And, in some ways, the colder the better - once you get below zero, it is very unlikely to snow.
If you haven't been to a game at UND, you should go. The arena is a sight to see, and the town is filled with college hockey fans (there is nothing else to do there). Wear your Cornell hockey shirts around town and you will have conversations with lots of nice people. The whole Red River Valley area is unlike anywhere else in the world, both geographically (perhaps the flattest land you will ever see) and culturally. While you can fly into Grand Forks, there are probably more options for Fargo, which is just a little over an hour down the road, and it gives you the opportunity to see even more of that flat land (seriously, the only hills that you will see on I-29 are the freeway exits/overpasses every 10 miles or so).
The team will be in Arizona (where I live now) the weekend before this series, so I doubt there will be a three day bus trip. There are direct flights from Mesa to both Grand Forks and Fargo, I would assume they will be flying. Now the only question is if I join them on that flight and get to see Cornell hockey two weekends in a row!

Hi
Well, spring has sprung, I think! The calendar says so, and we're looking forward to some outside activity.
I'd like to start out with some exciting news about next season. Cornell expects to compete in all athletic events in 2021-22, and that is certainly wonderful news. Our players are being awarded for being extremely strict when abiding with the COVID-19 regulations.
As I mentioned to the Coach's Club, men's hockey won the unofficial self proclaimed COVID Cup, as no one on the team contracted this horrible disease. That fact is amazing with all the interaction that our players were involved in every day. This involved a little bit of luck and a lot of commitment.
Morgan Barron also played his first NHL game last night with the New York Rangers, congrats to him and all his hard work.
Shortly, we will be announcing our schedule and our roster for next season. With 14 freshmen and 10 sophomores, obviously, we will be quite young. And you can count on us being extremely enthusiastic with a tremendous work ethic.
Look for the schedule announcement and the roster for the 2021-22 season. We are excited about getting started.

The last I heard, and this was several years ago, requests to exceed the Ivies' self-imposed limit have to be voted on by the Ivies. At one point Yale wanted to schedule two games in Alaska, beyond the limit of 29, and had to get approval from the league/Ivies to do so (they were successful).

Cornell Men's Hockey Reveals 2021-22 Schedule
ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's hockey team announced today the schedule for its highly anticipated return to play in the 2021-22 season. The regular-season slate of 29 games is highlighted by a first-time visit from an opponent, a pair of lengthy non-league road trips, the eighth edition of Red Hot Hockey at Madison Square Garden in New York and the perennial rigors of league play in ECAC Hockey.
In what will prove to be its first regular-season action in 608 days, Cornell returns to Lynah Rink ice Oct. 29-30 for a two-game visit from Alaska. The non-league contests will mark the first visit to Ithaca for the Nanooks, who will be competing as an independent team for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The programs' only previous meeting came on Jan. 3, 1987 in the championship game of the Phoenix Mutual Tournament in Hartford, Conn. – a 5-2 victory for the Big Red.
ECAC Hockey play commences the following week, with Cornell opening on the road against Ivy League opponents. Up first is a date with rival Harvard on Friday, Nov. 5, followed by a trip to Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 6 to conclude the team's lone road games for the entire month. Four consecutive league games at Lynah Rink ensue, with the first two featuring arrivals from the circuit's Capital District teams – Union on Friday, Nov. 12 and Rensselaer on Saturday, Nov. 13. Cornell then hosts its first two games within the Ivy subset Friday, Nov. 19 against Brown and Saturday, Nov. 20 against Yale.
All eyes then turn to The World's Most Famous Arena, where Cornell and Boston University face off at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27. The Big Red will attempt to retain the Kelley-Harkness Cup, laying claim to Red Hot Hockey's prize after a 2-0 victory over the Terriers in front of a crowd exceeding 15,000 fans.
The fall semester's portion of the schedule closes with the Big Red's first ECAC Hockey games against some of the four teams that competed during the abbreviated 2020-21 season. Cornell visits Clarkson on Friday, Dec. 3 before shuttling down Route 11 on Saturday, Dec. 4 to take on defending league tournament champion St. Lawrence.
After a four-week hiatus for final exams and the semester break, the Big Red will embark on the program's first trip to the Grand Canyon State for a pair of games Jan. 1-2 at Arizona State. The trip reciprocates a Sun Devils visit to Ithaca in January 2019 that resulted in victories of 6-1 and 3-2 for the hosts. Cornell's lengthy travels continue the following weekend at North Dakota, where the two teams atop the national rankings when the 2019-20 season abruptly concluded will square off in a pair of games Jan. 7-8.
Cornell's attention will then turn exclusively to ECAC Hockey play for the balance of the regular season. A stretch of eight straight road games comes to a close with a swing through New England to take on Yale on Friday, Jan. 14 and Brown on Saturday, Jan. 15.
A season-high five-game home stand awaits the Big Red as the undergraduate population returns to campus for the spring semester. The string starts Friday, Jan. 21 against Princeton and Saturday, Jan. 22 against Quinnipiac. The most anticipated home weekend of the season then starts with Dartmouth's arrival on Friday, Jan. 28 before the penultimate game of the Ivy League portion of the schedule sees Harvard in town on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The first weekend of February features the annual home-and-home series with Colgate. The teams meet in Ithaca on Friday, Feb. 4 before the stage shifts northeast to Hamilton for the rematch on Saturday, Feb. 5 to start a Cornell home stretch in which five of its final seven games are on the road. A visit to Rensselaer (Feb. 11) and Union (Feb. 12) follows.
The Big Red's final home weekend of the regular season features the same visitors it had to close out the 2019-20 campaign – ECAC Hockey's North Country foes. St. Lawrence arrives for a Friday, Feb. 18 date at Lynah before Cornell's annual Senior Night game on Saturday, Feb. 19 against Clarkson. The regular season then wraps up with a trip to Quinnipiac (Feb. 25) and Princeton (Feb. 26).
As usual, Cornell will tune up with the annual Red/White Game and a pair of exhibitions before the start of the regular season. Red/White is slated for Friday, Oct. 15, with an exhibition against the University of Ottawa shortly thereafter on Sunday, Oct. 17. The final tune-up comes against the U.S. National Team Development Program's Under-18 team on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Quote from: rediceBesides, with the crime increase in NYC, who wants to go there? Not me, even for Big Red Hockey.
Just stay clear of Wall Street.
Yes, that makes sense. Why would you want to play in New York City, at Madison Square Garden, particularly when a recent alum is playing for the Rangers, when you can play at Lynah Rink on a holiday weekend when no students are in town. Sure, good idea....
If the game can't be played at MSG because of a conflict with the Rangers/Knicks/etc., would folks prefer:
* Play game in Newark/Brooklyn/new Islanders arena
* Play game in some other city (saying this because it's being described by CU as a neutral-site game)
* Skip the game this year (a.k.a. MSG or nothing)
I also would love if they could find a way to do a men's and women's doubleheader one of these years.
I'd love to see us play a game in Philly like Penn State does.
There won't be a conflict. MSG always keeps the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving open for Cornell hockey. 15 years now. We played Colgate in Newark once. Disastrously low turnout. MSG is a destination. The other places are not.

No insult here. I would love Newark. The Ironbound is fantastic and the arena's ok and easily accessible. Just stating the fact that our brethren didn't show up.

Playing at MSG is cool (I'm wearing the t-shirt as I type this), and we'd been looking forward to something like that being arranged for years, but it is a shame that Cornell and BU don't play each other on campus any more. We did two-game series in 2001 at Walter Brown and 2002 at Lynah, and they were a lot of fun, and also key milestones in the development of the 2002-2003 team. (Jack Parker described the 2002 series as men vs boys, but the Big Red were the men for once.) We have never played BU at their new rink, which opened in 2005.

Almost for sure it's MSG, but they still haven't put it on the schedule, and I won't make it definite till they do. Also they've usually offered tickets by now. Suspect it's just because of all the prior COVID restrictions, which are now lifted. Let's keep it that way, so everybody get vaccinated.**]
You're certainly right. The posted press release just says "neutral site".
we might start to see more info on things after july 1st as the hiring freeze will be over and parts of campus will be back to work soon in a much more efficient way.
Quote from: DafatoneQuote from: arugulaThere won't be a conflict. MSG always keeps the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving open for Cornell hockey. 15 years now. We played Colgate in Newark once. Disastrously low turnout. MSG is a destination. The other places are not.
How dare you insult the fine city of Newark.
I've heard Newark is actually a pretty cool place these days.
I think a periodic rivalry game with LIU at the new Islanders arena could be cool and get a good turnout. Also could be viewed as helping their program establish itself.

Yes.
still interesting that we are now closing in on 2 months later than normal for renewal and still no updates on tickets or fans at games yet. wouldnt shock me if they play with no fans or no fans until after xmas.. maybe they go he fans and masks but no food route?
Nix the fans one more year to be safe. We'll live. Literally.

Strange that they didn't also flip the February weekend, reason?
The NCAA has added an off day between the first- and second-round tournament games, so the regionals will take place over 3 days starting this season.

Seems like it will drive down attendance at regional finals, though.
basketball has had the off day for ever and it hasnt caused much of an attendance issue.. roughly 1/2 the people leave after a loss for the most part and who knows what part of the crowd is actually traveling to see these games vs lives locally.

Everybody is going to stay away for the first round, meaning the home advantage teams will get an even more brutal advantage.
The NC$$
really sucks.
why do people think thats true? you think Cornell fans are not showing up the first game or Wisc/Mich fans? The teams with fans that travel wont care.
I think it's a valid point. I'd be much more likely to go to a regional if it required 2 nights in a hotel rather than 3. Also potentially fewer days off from work etc.
Especially with all of the games on tv now...

It will certainly impact more "casual" travel attendance. I don't understand why, but I would go to a playoff game if it were on Olympus Mons.
If nothing else, spreading it out to a 3-day event now eats work days on
both ends for distant travelers, making it more difficulty logistically.

Maybe they should go back to having two regional sites like in the days of the 12-team tournament. They could do two semis each on Friday and Saturday, and have the finals on Sunday and Monday. (Of course the more sensible thing would be to have the winners of the Saturday games play the late game on Sunday and get everybody out of there in one long weekend, but then not everyone gets a day off between games.)

We'd have home ice advantage there. It is the "Red Planet."
Although it would be CO2 ice.
The venues will have something to do with attendance, with both a pull (great cities) and push (high hotel prices). The format change will interact with such things.

I loved the old format. It was great to see 2 of the 6 teams advance and seeing half the tournament field made it a a big draw.
Chances of this happening are miniscule.
in a perfect world we go best of 3 for the whole deal. more games more money and 2 extra weekends.

Now I know why Cornell was so involved in the Mars rover programs: making sure we had fans sent ahead to scope out the best bars and restaurants.

Although IIRC when Opportunity landed, it was warmer at the landing site than it was in Ithaca. ::scared::
gonna be interesting to see just how much hockey we actually get to attend in person this yr. might be easier to watch road games the way its going
when did the ex game get changed to Princeton on the 16th? perhaps the canadian team couldnt get into the country?
so we got the email on tickets finally. no season tickets this semester. but the tickets on monday and then public sale on tues..
the way i read it they are not going to 100% capacity.
The email does read "hopes of returning to full capacity by start of regular season"
thats why its confusing, the reg season starts in Nov.. this is a email about tickets thru the end of the first semester..
if you are moving kids to C then you are trying to spread them out a bit You would think?
It also says reg people thru the main Bartels Entrance and kids thru the Lynah entrance but ignores the huge number of people entering on the North side of the building?
Do they plan on some how blocking the kids from leaving that side of the building after entrance
Looks like the Red-White game was taken off the schedule.
Quote from: WederLooks like the Red-White game was taken off the schedule.
Likely, it's off women's schedule as well.
Nice that I got an email at 6:42pm askng me to come to the Red-White game.
still interesting that RIT is still promoting the womens game up there and its not on any cornell schedule.
I'm sure a border crossing issue was the reason.
Anyone know if radio or streaming for this weekend is available?
I'm pretty committed to avoiding WHCU's normal programming, so I appreciate the heads up.

As per the preview on Cornell Athletics' website, the game will be streamed on ESPN+
So is ESPN+ the cornell "official" internet streaming provider? I was thinking of subscribing for the NHL and hoping that I would get a lot of cornell hockey too.

I think they carry all ECAC.
Get the bundle. ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+ for $14 a month
I did sign up for ESPN+ and watched a bit of our winning football team (for one night). Looking forward to the Big Red Hockey again.
Are the ESPN+ games archived, so they can be watched later on, or only live?
I believe they're available for a few weeks, but that's it
Quote from: The RancorAre the ESPN+ games archived, so they can be watched later on, or only live?
The short window for replay resulted in my suspending my subscription in the spring of 2020 after the NCAA ended the season. I even contacted them and got a response which acknowledged the issue in that there was no reason for ECAC Hockey fans to subscribe unless the replays were made available. And that was the end of it.
as long as it is, say 24-48 hours, I like the thrill of the game, the no knowing, and any more than that, I'll have heard the score, or seen the comments here. but if I can watch it at 7 PST, I'm golden. Is it days or a week or how short are we talking?
the field hockey games have been there for a month.. so the window is short but not that short. they used to have events stay around for longer but they are doing so many games now they might not have the capacity..

QuoteAll eyes then turn to The World's Most Famous Arena, where Cornell and Boston University face off at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27. The Big Red will attempt to retain the Kelley-Harkness Cup, laying claim to Red Hot Hockey's prize after a 2-0 victory over the Terriers in front of a crowd exceeding 15,000 fans.
