Title: Fall sports 2020 cancelled
Post by: dbilmes on July 08, 2020, 04:08:33 PM
The Ivies have decided to cancel the fall sports season. No winter sports teams will be allowed to play any games until 2021.

Can they carry over their 2019 records?

If the Ivy presidents are still thinking about allowing a short 2020 football season in spring 2021, then soccer, field hockey and cross-country will want to be treated equally.

The Ivies will make it harder to recruit against other leagues when those leagues point out our presidents' eagerness to "lead the way" by so readily dispensing with precious seasons of eligibility that they also make very difficult to recover without forcing those student-athletes to transfer.   Do the presidents think Michigan, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia, and Stanford will follow their lead?

What happens with hockey in the ECAC?  And NCAA?

It doesn't say much for the management of the Hanover Country Club if it's been losing $1 million per year.

Just have every team pick up on 3/15/21 where they were on 3/15/20.  Pretend it was a really long All-Star break or something.

Helps when there's a college Hotel School to make things run well.

I'm not even sure how Dartmouth can lose money.  Are they comping the students their booze?

All the country clubs that I don't belong to in upstate NY are bleeding - why would Hanover be any different? Ward Cleaver is too damn old to play golf and too cheap to keep up his dining room membership.

Just read on Inquirer.com (https://www.inquirer.com/college-sports/patriot-league-cacc-jefferson-lehigh-lafayette-covid-19-coronavirus-fall-semester-20200713.html) that the Patriot League has also cancelled all fall sports.

An extra year of eligibility for NCAA fall sports athletes also means, potentially, more scholarship payouts, unless teams recruit fewer student ath-a-letes for the Class of 2025.
