Just some info...Yesterday, the Ottawa Senator and former Clarkson player (and I believe Hobey Baker finalist) Todd White scored two goals including the game winner in 2OT to beat the Islanders (doh!). I believe he graduated in 1997 and was a royal pain in Cornell's butt. But, alas, in the NY Ranger and Red Sox tradition, Clarkson faltered and never made it to the Frozen Four. Congrats to this former ECAC player - even if it was against the Islanders!!!
No, especially because it was against the Islanders :-D
White was recognized as Most Respected Opponent by TBRW in 1997.

I gotta say, Age, that last night around 10:47 or so, I had the most wonderful 10 seconds...
First, I caught the end of the Isles game and to see Todd White bury the Isles in Double OT... Right after, I flipped back to ESPN just in time to see the Leafs score the winning goal against the Flyers... I swear, not more than 10 seconds passed between the 2 goals..
There's some pretty good ECAC representation in the NHL playoffs this year.. We have Todd White (Clarkson) playing for Ottawa, John LeClair (UVM) playing for Philly, Willie Mitchell (AAAAAAAAARRRRGH) with Minnesota, Adam Oates (RPI) with Anaheim, Martin St. Louis (UVM) with Tampa Bay, Jeff Halpern (Princeton) with Washington, Todd Marchant (Clarkson) on Edmonton, and, of course, some guy named Nieuwendyk playing for the Devils...
I guess it depends on your perspective. For me they were a pretty miserable 10 seconds. I'm a flyers fan, and I want to see the Islanders beat Ottawa. I saw the Toronto goal and switched to ESPN just in time to see the replay on the Ottawa goal.
JH
Todd White was runner up to Brendan Morrison for the 1997 Hobey.
That order should have been reversed IMHO....:-D
The only way that goal could have been sweeter for me would have been if it had come against the Devils...but Todd may get his chance to do that yet. For now, I'll settle for his damaging the Isles hopes. As the Islander shills pointed out, his biggest contribution may have been his winning so many face offs last night.
Since you're a Flyers fan, you ought to be pretty ticked at Clarkie for giving White away to Ottawa. I think the Ottawa folks are having a good laugh at Bobby's expense ever since he said Whitey "isn't big enough to play in the NHL"...odd comment coming from Clarke since he played with a lot of "heart"...I guess he never understood Todd's heart and passion for the game.
People who hate the Islanders must kick puppies in the head for fun. Ferchrissakes, we haven't bothered anybody for 20 years -- be nice!!!!! :`(

Didn't he finish tied for third in the voting? I seem to recall being perturbed he wasn't even the top finisher in the East.

I always thought he was 2nd ... Maybe Drury was 2nd. I'm sure if I'm wrong, you'll find it soon enough in the hockey-L archives :-)
If only the Islanders could spend $80 million...then we'd get somewh-- oh wait, never mind.
I assure you Greg, I'm a full fledged dog lover! :-D
As for the Isles, well...they sure didn't bother the Rangers in '94 but...you have to go back a little further than 20 years.
It was in '79 that Potvin ended the Rangers relaistic Cups hopes with his "check" on Ulf Nilsson, and to this day, that's why you still hear the "Potvin sucks" jeer at MSG.
He stinks in another manner currently...I heard him doing color on two ESPN games in the past few days...man he's awful!
I have any number of reasons to be pissed at Clarkie. Todd White is just one stupid trade of many.
JH
I agree that Clarkie has given you plenty of reasons to be upset with him. On the other hand, he did successfully unload Lindros onto my Rangers and the equally as dumb Glen Sather!
Did anyone in Philly bat an eyelash when they let Todd White go? I think not...they thought they had kept the "better White"...Peter that is. Now look where he is....:-D
Well yeah....what ever happened to John Spano? :-}
Spano was convicted on wire fraud charges. I'd guess he's in prison for that.
Right, I remember that...I mentioned his name but he was the guy who was going to spend "all that money" to build the team...:-D

You're a fellow Mets fan, you know ALL about spending money and not getting anywhere. :-P

I'm gonna come back and respond to this post in, oh, about 24 hours. :-}
First off, although I am an Islanders fan, Spano is my HERO! Who else could practically buy a sports team with absolutely NO MONEY?!? Talk about the almost-steal of the century. Background checks would be nice.
In response to Josh'99 above, yes, the Isles may bow out after the first round. But, as the ol' saying goes, you gotta be in it to win it.
On a lighter note, talk about deja vu!!! Yesterday, with the Isles losing 3-1 and about 10 seconds to go, Isles scored a goal with a questionable high stick, very similar to the location of the Cornell no goal against UHN. It was immediately called a no goal on the ice. It took all of 1-2 minutes before the ruling of the ice stood. With three angles, 2 angles looked possibly good and the third overhead angle with the worst view made it look like and obvious high stick. As the anouncer stated, there was no conclusive evidence to over turn the ruling on the ice. Too bad college hockey isn't the same!
well, when it is Isles vs the Senators I can't help but suddenly detest the isles. go ottawa (and toronto, and colorado and edmonton and N.J. - hmmm I perhaps have too many allegiances)
The world seems to be working properly. I woofed, and am now reaping the fruits of such woofing. :-}

Hey, don't misread me. I watched as many of the Rangers games this year as I could. Trust me, I knew they sucked before you did. :-P
