Bauld pulled a muscle to miss Senior Night. Berard in for him.
Hoping Cornell can finish the season off tonight with a W and avenge last season's championship game fiasco, but this has been another unbelievable year by the team and coaching staff. Great job by everybody.
Clarkson playing a very physical game.
Clarkson is hitting hard, forcing errors. They generated two breakaways. Excellent take down by Dirven to stop one of them; had to take a penalty though. Cornell playing with greater skill. Matt looks solid.
Clarkson making the game chippy. Disappointed in Casey.
4-1 Cornell.
Game gets ugly with punches thrown at 2:57 left in the 3rd.
5-1 finish. Hat trick for Berard as he scores with just under 10 seconds left. Cornell was abusing Clarkson on that major after Stienburg got punched in the face. They wanted a statement goal just to rub it in.
Galajda's shutout streak ends at around 202 minutes, finishing just a few minutes shy of the Cornell record and he get's right back to blanking the opposition.
Cornell just looked like the better team again. Fantastic way to close the regular season.
Take the extra week of rest and I hope Bauld comes back but Berard isn't going to the one who sits.
Cornell was clearly the better team tonight. Impressive performances up and down the lineup. Cycled at will, created chances in transition. Gave Clarkson no time and space. Five goals (three PPG) plus four posts/crossbars against the #3 defense and #1 PK. Clarkson with one goal and zero posts/crossbars.
Galajda's shutout streak was the 6th longest in CU hockey history according to Grady & Topher
Casey let his team get out of control.
Schneider may get a DQ for March 13 and 14.

So was the Stienburg the one who got clotheslined on that last sequence?
that was pretty blatant and deserves a suspension.
Sellout was interesting . i guess the box seats dont count in that stat and a decent number of empty seats in out section
In the 9 games following the Q loss, Cornell was 9-0-0, scored 40, and allowed 12.

As was the punch to the face, and hitting him while he was laying on the ground.

Yes. He had laid a big hit on Schneider just prior, and when Schneider got up, we saw him make a beeline for Stienburg like a raging bull.
He initially tried taking a high-speed, blindside run at Stienburg's head as he was carrying the puck through the neutral zone, which could have caused a lot more damage, but Matt saw him coming and leaned into him before Schneider took the stationary shot at him anyway.
Stienburg makes friends everywhere he goes. I have a feeling he's not entirely innocent in these scraps which seem to happen every game.
Personally I think he's great, and he has fantastic offensive talent too.
he must hold the team record for getting boarded in a season.

I think it was 6th longest at faceoff and he needed around nine minutes for the record. Not sure if the goal at 5:25 left him still in 6th.
Assuming the tie breakers on the ECAC Site are correct:
12 SLU at 5 Harvard
11 Princeton at 6 Dartmouth
10 Union at 7 Yale
9 Brown at 8 Colgate

There were an inordinate number of times when Clarkson players "fell down" near Red players appearing to try to draw penalties that just weren't there. I applaud the officials for not being fooled. Shame on Casey for this tactic... Just play the freaking game, Casey!

I was told tonight that Schafer says he reminds him of Greg Hornby. Gotta love it.

Are we still concerned about what Schafer told the team after the game? :P

Safe bet he didn't craft his game plan around his team diving

That's an absurd statement! I saw enough of it to believe that it was a part of the plan. Think what you want.

Schneider really lost it when he met up with Stienburg. I didn't see the prior hit from Stienburg so I have no opinion on whether or not it was clean.

Hmm. The NCAA record book (lower left on page 6) (http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_icehockey_rb/2009/MIH%20DI%202009.pdf) doesn't seem to know about those other 5. According to their list, 202 minutes would be #10 all-time, and best ever for Cornell. What gives? If TBRW (which I really, really appreciate!) tracks shutout streaks, I could not find it.
That's a very outdated version, it doesn't even have Galadja's freshman season shutout streak which was longer than the one that ended last night.
From the 2019-2020 NCAA record book (http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_icehockey_rb/2020/D1.pdf)
Ben Schrivens had a shutout streak of 267.11 in 2010 and Galadja had a shutout streak of 227.10 in 2018

It seems to be c.2009. But how can a document like that not have a date of publication?

Oops!! And why would that be the version that came up when I googled for it? Someone must've made a ton of links to that one or something.

There's a also a Cornell streak of 213:35 in 2011 and the list goes to 204:ish, so maybe this streak was #4? (EDIT: the game recap says #6, right where we started, so I'd like *someone* to publish a list!)
I headed into this weekend with a bit a dread. A bit of it was worrying that Cornell would look past St. L and suffer the trap game loss. But mostly I was worried that against Clarkson they would look like the team that played Q and have it questioned just how good Cornell is. Well, I don't think I've seen Cornell play a better sixty minutes this season than it did last night and probably for a long, long time. If Cornell can show up and play like that, I think they can beat anyone and not need luck to do it (that's not the same as saying they will -one in done, especially in hockey, is too fickle given how just one or two bounces can make the difference). Such a fun, thrilling team to watch.

I don't track it though it would be a good project. I have goal times and goalie times so I could actually generate a table of all shut out streaks of all goalies all time. The one thing that would make it a little chancy is I record goalies' total time in game but not when they exited and entered. Therefore goalie switches and empty nets would probably corrupt a few of the records.

The hit was fairly close to where I was sitting. It was legal, but I can see how you could think it wasn't.
I believe Schneider was looking down at the puck because he clearly didn't see Stienberg coming. Stienberg basically caught Schneider with his own momentum and wound up driving his head against the boards. Definitely not a charge and not boarding, and Stienberg didn't leave his feet. But it was a BIG hit.
I'm pretty sure they looked at it when they went in for the review, and would have given Stienberg more than a 10 minute misconduct if there was evidence of anything that they could have given him 5 minutes for. I think adding the misconducts was a way to defuse the situation by getting the combatants off the ice, because Clarkson would have taken another run at Stienberg if he stayed out.
The rematch at Placid will be interesting if it happens.
Clarkson round table thread doesn't discuss last night yet in the main thread, but seems they are tilting toward blaming coaching.

"Fun and thrilling" is right. High tempo, disciplined hockey with 4 strong lines, solid depth, and excellent goaltending. I don't know if we'll reach the promised land, but we have all the right pieces.
It's too bad about the stupidity at the end because otherwise it was a great game.
The Fun Finish was posturing for an LP meeting. Boys like to have dick measuring contests.
Who cares... as long as ours go home with the Homecoming Queen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitelaw_Cup).

Nice quotes from the Sun on Berards performance.
QuoteAnd for Berard, who was a healthy scratch against St. Lawrence, it was a chance to show he deserved a spot in the lineup.
"Last week, I just didn't think he played very well. He didn't work hard enough, do the things we require ... he needed to come out of the lineup," said head coach Mike Schafer '86.
"I knew one game was probably gonna be enough to teach him a lesson, in the sense of making him understand how it hurts to be out of the lineup," he continued. "And, I mean, obviously, story-book — he comes in to score three goals. You know, he more than learned his lesson."
QuoteThe revered Clarkson penalty kill almost did its job. But with 9.4 seconds remaining in the regular season, Berard completed his first collegiate hat trick.
"Coach knew I had two, so he told me to go stand in front of the net and try to bang one in," Berard said. "And it worked out."

The whole thing was very unfortunate.
Prior to last night, Schneider's PIM (https://www.collegehockeynews.com/players/career/Jordan-Schneider/31066) total for the season was only 26 minutes.
