Title: Thank you seniors
Post by: jy3 on April 11, 2003, 12:03:13 AM
So besides all the controversy about the game I just wanted to say thank you to the class of 2003. Thank you for a great four years of hockey and I am happy to say that it has been a lot of fun following you all since I was actually still at Cornell until now. Thank you for a fabulous senior season and good luck in all of your endeavors.  Special thanks for Mr. and Mrs. McRae for all the chats and unexpected meetings in strange places. :-)

Have a good rest of the year, guys, and do not let the loss today ruin the great run you all have had. I personally am proud of you guys for defining student-athlete.

let's go RED!

I second that.  Thanks to the seniors for their hard work and the many hours of wonderful hockey they've brought us.

And thanks to Dave LeNeveu.  Dave, we'd love to have you back in a Cornell uniform next fall, but if the lure of the desert is too much, we will still always remember with awe the staggering season you had in '02-'03.  You were the best college hockey goalie EVER, and you have the phenomenal stats to back that up.  Cornell will always be a welcome home for you, whatever your choice.

WHAT AN AMAZING YEAR!!!

Let's Go, Red!!!

I will echo this further. Thanks for 4 amazing seasons and for Cornell's first trip to the frozen four in twenty years. Thanks for thrilling OT wins in Albany and Providence this year and an unbeaten record at Lynah. Thanks for making my senior year at Cornell special in 2000 by beating Harvard in the playoffs at Lynah allowing me to climb over the glass for the last time. Its been fun watching you guys and I wish you all the luck in the world in your future goals and dreams.

What can you say about Lenny besides at 2:30 today he deserves that award. Years from now, people will look back at this season to how we all look back at Ken Dryden. I hope you stay Dave to try and get the championship next year but if you go, thanks for two amazing years.

Let's Go Red! See you all next year

(Pardon me as I get sentimental.)

I would like to thank not only the seniors, but the entire team, for making my Cornell hockey experience simply awesome.  When I first got to Cornell in the fall of 1999, the hockey team of the previous year didn't even have a winning season (their previous season's finishing record being 12-15-4).  In the past four years, however, the team has just become better and better:

1999-2000: 16-14-2, ECAC Final Four
2000-2001: 16-12-5, ECAC Final Four
2001-2002: 25-8-2, Ivy League Champions, ECAC RS Champions, ECAC Final Four, NCAA Tournament
2002-2003: 30-5-1, Ivy League Champions, ECAC RS Champions, ECAC Final Four, ECAC Tournament Champions, NCAA Tournament, NCAA Frozen Four

I've had season tickets in all my years here.  I will always have fond memories of Lynah Rink.  "Hey Baby" got stuck in my head for days at a time.  I loved chanting "Burt!" or "Underhill!" or "LeNeveu!"  Even though I've never sat in section B, I've always enjoyed myself watching the Cornell defense shutout the other team.

I haven't traveled to see many away games (and most of them have been this year), but when I did, it was always great.  I've been to Lynah East (that is, Bright Hockey Center) twice, and have been both dismayed and elated by what happened there.  I've been to Hobey Baker Rink at Princeton once as well.  And then came the greatest trip of all, to Albany just a few weeks back.  How ironic that my favorite Cornell hockey moment that I've witnessed in person wouldn't happen at Lynah, but at the Pepsi Arena in Albany.

It's been a great four years, and even though I won't be a student for much longer, I hope to have more exciting Cornell hockey moments in the years to come.

LET'S GO RED!!!

I been waiting thirty years for a team like that -- the best Cornell team since 1970.  As the years went by, I had come to the doubt that we could ever again seriously compete for the national championship, and I was absolutely thrilled when the ovt. goal againt BC went in, we were int Frozen Four!  It's not just what they did this year, as great as it was, but it has restored a lustre to the Cornell program that I think will last.    It will surely help recruiting.  We may not be as good next year, but I think the future is much brighter because of the seniors.

To those current students who are following the Red:
Those who will graduate this May have witnessed a great resurgance of Cornell hockey over the last 4 years.  As someone noted above, we've been better each of the last 4 years, with this being the "current" culmination.  What current students may not remember is that Cornell hockey went through a similar resurgance about 4 years prior to your entrance to Cornell 95-96 and 96-97 were the years where Cornell put itself back on the map, 1st getting to the NCAA tourney for the first time in at least 9 years, and the next year winning a NCAA tourney game for the first time in a long time.
However, the next two seasons (97-98 and 98-99) were a step in the opposite direction with the team not getting out of the ECAC quarter finals one year, then losing the ECAC 4/5 play-in game the next year.  Then came our current "resurgance" you now see.
My point is that success for the Big Red has recently come in waves and although we hope that this wave is the "big kahuna" current students should not be phased if we have a slight downturn next year.  But as it is in all of college hockey, seniors graduate, freshman arrive, and there will be another great "senior class" to come.
Cornell has shown that it CAN still produce a nationally competitive team (even for the championship) no matter what all the EZAC naysayers say.  Here's to more NCAA tournament runs in our future, hopefully someday soon the last game of our season will be a win.
