Title: Columbia bandied about
Post by: marty on September 27, 2019, 12:33:18 PM
Organic. (https://www.columbiaspectator.com/sports/2019/09/25/marching-band-banned-from-all-future-athletic-events-lose-all-university-funding-athletics-announces/)

Said to be the result of a bizarre concert starting at midnight on the eve of the organic chemistry final?

Columbia marching band disbands.
QuoteThe band admitted to "sexual misconduct, assault, theft, racism and injury to individuals and the Columbia community as a whole."

Oceans rise, empires fall.

This sets up a fascinating historical turning point for college.  Hitherto, the compound term for drinking + fucking was "Friday."

Now college students face a choice to either give up drinking or give up fucking.

Will college mores all break the same way?  Spoiler: teen drinking has 10 thousand years of momentum; teen fucking has 10 million.

Will it vary by campus?  Dartmouth chooses drinking, the rest of the Ivies choose fucking except Brown which chooses neither and Harvard which sticks with sexual assault.

I always figured teen drinking led to teen fucking.

Teen Dasein is fucking.  If anything, teen drinking inhibits it.

You mean the Ivy marching band whose halftime announcer is unintelligible except for brief periods of discernable talk which makes no sense ... whose scramble formations are the result of being too lazy to stand in a line? I will miss them only because if they caused grief to the university administration, they must have been doing something right.

Columbia stood out from the other six and a half scramble bands in the Ivies mostly in how proud they were of their presumed cleverness and scandal.

You are a master of brevity yet accuracy. Too bad the days are gone for working Readers' Digest Condensed Books.

The Columbia band also has to memorize where they (used to) play:

Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium at Baker Athletics Complex, Columbia University.
