Clearly Cornell and our fans are geographically advantaged for the FF but we should not underestimate UNH fans. They are AVID fans and they sell out every game up there. That is the only show in town (sound familar?) and in fact the only show in the state. They travel well and make some noise.
We need a big showing in Buffalo. The game is sold out but there are lots of tickets on Ebay. Also check the sites at BC (hah hah), BU, and CC.
Bring it home RED!!!!!
I agree 100% - there's no reason why these shouldn't be home games for The Red. I hope we get as many fans as Albany and Providence combined.
By the way, I think Dartmouth might be a little offended by your "only show in the state" crack... ;-)

Darmouth = elistist, LL Bean catalog school that has failed to chnage with the times therefore is no longer considered a top university. Oh by the way the hockey team rots (red were out drinking in Burlington the night before that one).
Unlike UNH, only a small fraction of the Dartmouth students are from New Hampshire. UNH is like Maine or UVM (yes...they'll be back) in that it is the state team. Its also like Maine in that it is full of knuckleheads.

I suspect UHN's fan base has a large component of state pride behind it--not unlike UConn women's basketball, which I experienced when living in Connecticut. UHN is the state's primary public institution of higher education, and, for better or worse, a source of state pride. Maine and UVM hockey are similar situations.
Dartmouth, as a private school is different, I think. If someone has a Dartmouth connection or lives in the Hanover, Lebanon, White River Junction area, he/she might be a fan, but I'd be surprised if it travels much beyond that.
[And, yes, I know you were kidding, Sully, but your posting made me think about the large, passionate following for those three northern New England state schools.]

On Friday night, a group of us got to New England early and we decided to take in the Northeast Regional in Worcester. We took up a whole row in the 2nd deck above the BU student section, and most of us were representing with Cornell gear. Like last year, most of the arena was dominated by UNH fans, and as a result, they didn't really fill out the stands until their game-time approached. We had some interaction with both BU and UNH fans:
BU:
During each stoppage of play, the BU student section would stand up and stomp or clap out a cheer. As Harvard collapsed early in the 3rd, they took out the "EZAC" chant. Needless, to say, that was the opportunity to make our presence felt as we stood up and started yelling "hey, wait a minute!" type stuff. Their section turned around and started in with us. One guy pointed at the scoreboard, and we reminded them of the scores 4-1 and 5-1. Finally they got a "Go To Prov-i-dence!" chant together, and play was ready to resume as attention went back to the game. It was funny, good fan interaction.
UNH:
I was a little oblivious to it all, but apparently there were a couple rows of UNH fans a couple sections to our right who became obsessed with us. To the point of watching us instead of their own game vs. St. Cloud. I heard a couple "Hey Cornell!" with obscenities thrown our way. According to others in my party, they were just staring at us, and threw a couple physical threats our way. Since there was nothing worth responding to, we just ignored them. 2-3 of them even came over and stood right behind us for whatever reason. It was actually somewhat freightening, or at least disturbing. We were even wary to do a "UHN" cheer for some mischeif. We got up to beat the UHN traffic with about 7 minutes left, and they started an "MSU" chant. Certainly a more ominous thuggery type of fan than the good-natured BU interaction we had in the first game.
Other notes from Worcester:
Harvard: Their band consisted of 8 people, and the old ladies holding up the "Go Crimson" signs were there. 8 bandies?? The "no money for a bus" excuse doesn't hold this time. At least this year, they were students, instead of the 55 year olds they sent last year. Why people continue to insist that having them near Boston will be a boost to attendance is beyond me. We seranaded the end of the Harvard season properly, and gave Dom Moore one last "mooooooron" cheer and a "Harvard Still Sucks!" chant as they left the ice. They went 0-8-1 vs. top 15 teams. IMO, they didn't get the respect they wanted because they didn't earn it...and they had ample opportunities to do so.
St. Cloud: We met the SCSU fan who made the trip...a student. Nice kid. He was wearing a SCSU jersey with the name "Catch" and the number 22. Too bad his team didn't have a better performance.
UNH/BU bands: OK, but nothing special. Very square. Sounded like every other Hockey East band I've ever heard. And they all play the same 6 songs. We had 2 more chances to sing "Hey Baby!"

Well, they earned it from me. They never did beat us this year, but that top line sure tortured us. I am glad to see Moore graduate, because he is a hell of a player. Is Kolarik coming back? Because I hate him also.
Yea, I was at the UNH games last weekend too.
RIDICULOUS number of UNH fans. theyre home arena seats over 10,000 and it sells out.
I always admire a fanbase that is as raucous as our own. Also, after watching last years Worcester tape, the UNH fans were louder than us. DO you believe that. this has GOT TO BE Lynah NorthWest

It's not so hard to believe when you realize there were 10 UHN fans for every 1 Cornell fan. I would hope they could muster some noise in support of their team. I am not a ig fan of reading the USCHO message board, most of what is writtin is senseless bickering, on all sides. I do find one thing amusing, though. There is a thread of the ECAC teams showing support for Cornell (okay, some of which is in hopes that if we win, Lenny goes pro, but that is besides the point). Then there is a thread about how HE fans should not support UNH. The primary reason? their fans......

listen, tough guy, let's move beyond any personal attacks and address the issues. I'm concerned b/c cornell obviously struggled vs. BC and UNH is a lot tougher opponent than BC. attacking the school, its students, and surrounding environment is plain dumb & irrelevant. if you've ever ventured to an away UNH vs. Cornell game you'd see that it's a better place than upstate. same for Hanover, NH.

I have started going over to USCHO more over the last few days. I saw a lot of bickering between Al and RichS. It felt just like home. :-P

As a resident of Boston's north suburbs, and a frequent visitor to the Granite State (about once every other week), I have some experience with the typical UNH fan. Just a few notes:
- The UNH fan base is not confined to New Hampshire, as many Mass residents apply there due to its well defined reputation as a party school. I think this explains the strong showing of UNH fans last year in Worcester.
However, this does not necessarily mean that there won't be a significant respresentation of NASCAR enthusiasts in Buffalo.
- New Hampshire people are into hockey big time. Not only NHL and Collegiate level, but high school down to pee-wee. So expect them to be well-educated in the nuances of puck.
- Hockey may be the only show in town, but that is not limited to the UNH team. Most New Hampshire people are too busy following Bruins and the Manchester minor league team, UNH is a more recent development among the townies.
Don't be afraid of them, they are tough and often drunk. If you have trouble communicating in normal English, just talk hockey and maybe they won't bother you.
At the Saturday game in Providence, the BU student section chanted at the UNH fans, "You have one cheer" clap clap clap-clap-clap, and it's entirely true. They may be knowledgeable but they're hardly the rabid, enthusiastic, vicious fans that we are. :-D
And that cheer was their version of the cowbell. with the "go, fight, win" intermixed with the dude.
Oh, you mean it wasn't the slow, droning, "U-N-H... U-N-H..." chant? At least they spell it right when they chant it... ::nut::
