Title: Cornell @ Dartmouth 1/27/18
Post by: cth95 on January 27, 2018, 01:04:35 AM
Let's hope they can keep rolling and not have a hiccup like Clarkson did last week.

Does anyone know what section we are in?  I was already thinking about getting tickets to bring my girls to their first Cornell game.  With the results tonight, it is a must now.

Dartmouth won at Denver (nearly twice) in addition to at Clarkson, and they're in fifth now.  Maybe they're not a walkover (and maybe Bentley is a dozing superpower).

During the 100+ years that I've been following Cornell hockey both Dartmouth and Brown have been real spoil-sports.
But, hey, who's up for an eighth shutout!?

Maybe if we clinch the Ivy title tonight somebody besides the ECAC and Cornell reporters will take notice?
Maybe Brown can give Clarkson fits for a change!? Stranger things have happened, right?

I'm up for both!

Go Big Red!!

Five active players (http://www.tbrw.info/index.html?/players/cornell_Hat_Tricks.html), none of them seniors, have had hat tricks.  Those 5 hat tricks over 2 seasons compare with 2 over the prior 11 seasons.

Someday I'll fill in everybody.  The Fergusons and Lance/Brock will break the chart.

I'll be in Hanover for this game sitting in section 15 since that's close to where Cornell shoots twice. However, there are still a ton of unsold tickets online aside from the sections in dead center ice.

By my calculations, Galajda would tie Scrivens's shutout streak (267:11) at 6 minutes and 37 seconds into the third period tonight, assuming no empty net time due to delayed penalties.

And, if you're an optimist, he'd tie Blaine Lacher's NCAA record of 375:01 at 14:21 into the second period of the RPI game at Lynah a week from tonight  (assuming no overtime or empty net time between now and then).

Just so you know, the band is usually in 3 and most CU fans in the past have been in 2 to 6. I'm trying for there, but I usually stand anyway. There has never been a full crowd in those sections, in case you want to join us/them.

Dartmouth outshot Colgate 44-24 in their win. (http://www.ecachockey.com/men/2017-18/Game_Stories/20182601_Dartmouth-Colgate)

QuoteNow 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, the Big Green (9-10-2, 7-6-1) are alone in fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 15 points

After outshooting D'mth 31-16 in the 3-0 win at Lynah, I sure hope they don't forget about tonight's game. Typical game where we could not be sharp and lose, especially if we're sick.

And yet Dartmouth only scored 2 goals. This is obviously another instance of the Colton Point Show and if Colgate ever finds any offense, they could be a scary first-round matchup for whichever team gets them.

Remember, Schafer's strategy is to block shots before they get to the goalie.  So I might see 44 attempts on net, I would not expect 44 SOG.

Vaughn has got to pray for some scorers in the class of '22. As for recruiting,  I love Cornell's chances for attracting players.  This year should be a great one to attract anyone on the fence.

I actually bought a Roku stick a couple of years ago, mainly to watch Cornell Hockey. I realized early on the delay was always so significant I prefer to just watch on my laptop.

After 4 minutes we could easily have been up 4-0.  Cam's goal, a solid post, a dribbler that went a cm wide, and a 2-on-1 with a wide open net where the pass did not quite make it to the headman.

Since Dartmouth's tying goal it is much more even; let's hope we don't regret not burying them before people got back from the bathrooms.

Galajda's streak ends at 227:11, exactly 40 minutes short of Scrivens' club record.

much more solid game tonight.  we didnt make the same sloppy mistakes.. had chances to put it away and then survived a couple good pressures late..  really controlled most of that 3rd period even though it says we only had 3 shots on goal.

tuned in for the back half of the third period and it was almost entirely in our end. still not sure how they didn't get one in. then, as soon as dartmouth pulled buffalo they started crashing into each other and couldn't get possession. usually a tap-in empty-netter isn't a big deal but bauld just pantsed some guy at the blue line and stepped past him to coast to the net. THAT was a pretty ENG.

From the Dartmouth write-up: (http://www.ecachockey.com/men/2017-18/Game_Stories/20182701_Dartmouth-Cornell)

Quote"I thought we played really hard tonight and outplayed them for much of the game," head coach Bob Gaudet'81 said. "Cornell is the best team in the country. They're No. 1 in my eyes and we hung with them and really took the play to them. They're just so good that they can take those hits and keep pushing back."

I have to assume we played like that since we mainly used 5 d-men and were still working off the sickness.

I got really worried when McCrea went down on the blocked shot. He didn't look good skating off to the dressing room in between periods. But he came back and looked okay.

Overall, a good, but not pretty weekend. Really glad we got 2 wins, but in the second period, tied 1-1, I said I'd have been happy to quit then and go home. I'm glad they didn't feel that way.

Dart played pretty well.. as usual we got scrambling a few times.  Still I wouldnt say Dart had the better of play.  Even in the 3rd when they needed to score we really controlled well over half the period before they really even entered our end of the ice.  They did have several good chances in the last 7-8 min though.  the PK we never really let them do anything.

Pretty interesting Gaudet called us the best team in the country, given that he's had looks at Denver and St. Cloud this season, and given that it feels like every game, the postgame press conference takes the following form:

Opposing coach: "Cornell is one of the best teams in the country, but we hung with them. I thought we carried the play for much of the game and created chances. They just got some bounces and we didn't, and their goalie was fantastic."

Schafer: alternating between lukewarm praise and "we got away with one tonight," while talking about how tough the ECAC is

Don't!! Having seen all of them, by no means are we as dominant as those teams were. Of course, it's not a fair comparison, since no one will ever be that dominant again. (He says with utmost confidence.::uhoh:: )

But really, as I've said before, enjoy it, we could go all the way. But it' still a young team, and if they start to lose, it's possible that everything will unravel.

If that happens, remember, you shouldn't have been that praising, so don't end up being that critical.

And that's a generic you, not refering specifically to abmarks.

Just enjoy the moment.::drunk::

Not a bad game yesterday. It was obvious from the start that Cornell was the better team in terms of talent but that didn't mean it was going to be easy. Dartmouth's gameplan for most of the night was to clog the neutral zone, use a bit of a forecheck and try to capitalize on any confusion or turnovers. It worked to keep the game even for most of the 60 minutes but Cornell was able to capitalize on a few key opportunities. Galajda wasn't tested too much for most of the game but was ready to make the save whenever a shot was about to come.

The turnout at the game wasn't bad, but there were still plenty of empty seats. A lot of local kids and families were at the game--hardly any actual Dartmouth students from what I could see. While driving around Hanover, I did see the Dartmouth band walking to the rink and in fact, they were at the rink for the whole game. However, they were hardly noticeable or audible except for their parade before the start of the 3rd period. As usual, the canned music was annoying and for whatever reason it has been amped up at Thompson Arena for the past few years.

I did manage to get 2 of the goals from where I was sitting (here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcPTwiBGdhM&feature=youtu.be) and here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=si_uuyOSeNY&feature=youtu.be)), but it would seem that the ECAC actually put up highlights of the game quickly this weekend (for once).

Were it not for Cornell fans and Cornell band, the arena might be a quiet place for the D band to study.

A pretty gutty effort by the team this past weekend.  Schafer mentioned several times how they could not go full out in practice last week because soo many of the team members were sick.  To go on the road and beat those two teams when you are not 100% is a testament to their will and desire to maintain their level of play.

As a proud member of the class of '95 who missed just one home game in four years (it was over winter break), well, I'm pretty sure I deserve a medal for the W-L records I endured. :-)

We need a few of these robocams hanging from Lynah's rafters.  What are we waiting for?!

Yeah, I saw those, too, in the webcast. Not sure what for since something like that is more a security or Facebook camera. Plus there's the danger they'll send Cornell secrets back to the PRC.
