Title: Next year's East Regional
Post by: Section A on March 31, 2003, 03:42:10 PM
I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but I have forgotten.

Who is the host of next year's EAST Regional, to be playing in Albany?

Either RPI or Union, does it really matter which one?

Why are you worried about next year's East regional when the Frozen four is less than 2 weeks away?

RPI and ECAC are the co-hosts.  Does that mean that ANY ECAC champ has to be placed there? ;-)

They said that the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs is hosting the West regional.  Is that a different school than CC?

Unfortunately, no. RPI would have to be placed there; the other 11 teams would not.

The other hosts next year are UNH (Manchester) and Western Michigan (Grand Rapids).

The NCAA says Colorado College is the West host next year.

Oh come on, just because the Frozen Four is next week doesn't mean I can't ask a question. Besides, I was just wondering.

I wonder if RPI thinks that next year will be their year then :-D

Okay, NOW we can go back to talking about next week! ;-) ...

It's cool, I didn't really think you were looking ahead that far  ::nut::

I take it the Syracuse War Memorial or Blue Cross Arena (in Rochester) are too small for US to host?

Well, the benches at the War Memorial are too small to fit the whole team including backup goalies. ::rolleyes::

Would hosting in Binghamton be out of the question?  The Broome County Arena is good sized but I don't know what the requirements are to host.

Capacity of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena is 6,800.  I have to think that's too small for a regional.  The OnCenter War Memorial Arena in Syracuse seats 8,000 according to their webpage, also kinda on the small side.  Blue Cross Arena in Rochester seats 11,215 for hockey and I guess would probably be the best bet if Cornell wanted to bid on a regional.

Didn't Rochester and Lake Placid bit for the 2003 regionals?

The minimum capacity for regionals is now 4,000 down from 6,000 a year ago.  Placid, Rochester, Binghamton and Syracuse all meet this requirement.  Now, the NC$$ might still choose to go with bigger arenas in hopes of selling more seats.

I'd love to see us take advantage of the unfair host-at-home rule.  Of course, the way these things seem to work out, as soon as we agree to host a regional they will rescind the rule (see: Colorado College rule, Clarkson rule, tournament byes).

When was the last time you were at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial in Rochester? ::rolleyes::

The Onandaga County War Memorial is in Syracuse, and I was last there whenever the last time was that we played in the Syracuse (Hockey) Invitational Tournament.  Was that 1999?

This may be true. . .but you did not specify to which War Memorial you were referring.

I am from Syracuse. . .I know this  :-P  and I currently live in Rochester so the Blue Cross Arena is also quite familiar.

p.s. it's O-n-o-n-d-a-g-a;-)

It was 1999, JTW, and unless they updated it, that place is a dump.  Ugh.

But it did give us one of the funnier moments, with Underhill explaining the "GOALIE! SIEVE! SIEVE! GOALIE! GOALIE! SIEVE!" cheer to Merrimack's backup netminders.

Just like in Providence, then.  Marr and Chabot got to stand outside the bench and watch the game through the glass.

How the heck they fit a full team of AHL players on that bench I have no idea.

Anyone got a picture of that?  I'd love to see that moment. :-D

Not as such, but pics of the goalies sitting and chatting:

Thanks Age.  We can just photoshop in some voice bubbles, or better yet, just have arrows pointing to Underhill and the other guy saying, respectively, "Goalie" and "Sieve".  ::laugh::

I think the problem is that you're only allowed to dress 15 plus goalies in the A.
