Round of applause for Andy Noel. Now if he could convince Gabe Dean to pick up a FOGO stick.

It's very, very silly.

Huh? Cornell A (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKvGr2BknO8&index=27&list=PLgHoN6LLDp_-dnMCAqTt4nSiVNsxNist-) dominates a heavyweight boat in their heat. Cornell C (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URa1HWQ4QHI&index=10&list=PLgHoN6LLDp_-dnMCAqTt4nSiVNsxNist-) (lightweight development boat) with five freshmen, two sophs and a junior rowed a strong race, but came up short behind a good heavyweight boat.

No, no, the crews are GREAT -- good for them.
But good lord, the affect. It's the Westminster Dog Show with people. Come the revolution (https://brobible.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/disaster-girl.jpg?quality=90)...

Really great presentation on that stream.
Is this a simple elimination bracket, and if so what round is Cornell in now?
Really impressive race (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRrI8XjkA5g), but size matters in rowing. University of London A bests Cornell A by about 3/4 length in quarter final race. According to the commentator, London outweighed Cornell by about 16 kilograms per man. This is a great Cornell crew.

That's 35 pounds in real units. :)
Here's (http://eodg.atm.ox.ac.uk/user/dudhia/rowing/physics/weight.html) a fun breakdown of why size matters, part of a fascinating discussion of the physics of rowing (http://eodg.atm.ox.ac.uk/user/dudhia/rowing/physics/index.html).

Cornell A was defeated by University of London A yesterday by ½ length, recording the fastest time of the day in the Temple Cup.
"The UL guys actually make me feel short" – 6'3.5" Cornell freshman Gideon Schmidt (2nd in line on right).
University of London A beats Yale (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8e_wOxUwYo) and Oxford Brookes beats Berkeley (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfx5muVn5uk) by open water to set up all-English Temple Challenge final tomorrow.

Chris Kerber gets well-deserved nomination as USRowing Collegiate Coach of the Year. LGR!!!

Chris Kerber has a slim lead in fan voting for USRowing Collegiate Coach of the Year. Cornell varsity lightweight 8s were IRA champions and undefeated on US waters three of the last four years. Their only defeats were against heavyweight crews at the Henley Royal Regatta.

I rowed for half a semester on the Cornell freshman lightweight crew back in the late 80s... does that qualify me as part of the "extended rowing community"?

I didn't begin rowing until I was 68 and retired, but I consider myself part of the "
extended rowing community." Chris Kerber is an outstanding coach and deserves the support of everyone who reads this thread. VOTE NOW (http://www.usrowing.org/2017-fans-choice-collegiate-coach-year/). LGR!

I had two fraternity brothers on the team, so I have no qualms about voting.
Just cast my ballot. Kerber is in second place, almost 100 votes behind Paul Savell from Drexel.
Voted. Kerber really does deserve to win this and has done a phenomenal job.
Cornell Lightweight 8 finishes second in field of 16 at Head of the Charles (http://www.cornellbigred.com/news/2017/10/22/general-rowing-picks-up-two-medals-at-head-of-the-charles.aspx). At the time of this post, Dreck Tech's Paul Savell is leading by 43 votes.

The final tally is in and Chris Kerber lost to Paul Savell by just over 100 votes (out of over 5000 votes cast). While I don't want to see our Athletic Department shamelessly hype our students and coaches for awards (e.g., Notre Dame's infamous "Theisman as in Heisman" campaign), it wouldn't have hurt if Andy Noel had sent an email to the over eight thousand financial supporters of Cornell athletics alerting them about the vote.
