Title: Cornell Lax vs Syracuse, 2016 April 12
Post by: jtwcornell91 on April 04, 2016, 10:09:23 AM
Given the weather, we clearly scheduled this game one week too late.

You never know, given how things are going.

See Cornell hanging tough with SU but coming 5 or 6 goals shy.

Cornell has not established a consistent interior offense
Too many shots coming from outside and helping opposing goalie save %.

Attribute the turnover issues in part to youth.

If unranked Bryant can take down #3 Brown, we've got a shot against #10 http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/usila-nike-di-coaches-poll-yale-remains-no-1/34629 Syracuse. Beat Syracuse, we've got a chance to finish at .500. Suppose Jeff Teat '20 is on campus for admitted students day? Rather than take part in a Cornell class ...

Syracuse has shown that they are not invincible this year.
Heck, we beat Virginia, right!?
Maybe there is a god alive and well after all, Friedrich??

But, yes......a little razzle-dazzle, interior offense would be nice.

This goes to show how late I've been to start paying attention. Yale is #1, Brown #3 nationally? ::twitch::

Yes, that's the consensus, though so far the only game between those two and traditional and emerging powers (ACC, Maryland, Hopkins, Denver) is Yale over Maryland in an early game. Yale @ Brown will be on ESPN3, should be entertaining.

Cornell @ Lehigh will be on actual TV, CBSSports.

When's the last time these teams met with neither in the top ten? I don't remember it happening.

Great.  The first time I can watch a game on TV, and it's a game I'm going to in person.

Despite losing 18 of 22 faceoffs, Red beat Orange 10-9 in OT.

if you had said in the beginning of the year we would be beating UV and SU, we must be pretty good..

Beating UVa and Cuse, but 0-3 in the Ivies (without playing Princeton); unreal! (But it is a year when Yale and Brown are in the top 3 ...)

Anyway, congrats to the players and coaches on a great win!

I know Dartmouth doesn't appear to be a D1 program right now, but we are actually 1-3 in the Ivies

Not to get all 'what if' on this forum, but if we actually were able to beat Princeton and Brown, it's not impossible that we make the ILT and NCAAs.....

What's wrong with Syracuse lacrosse? Orange face critical game with UNC after loss to Cornell (http://www.syracuse.com/axeman/index.ssf/2016/04/whats_wrong_with_syracuse_lacrosse.html#incart_river_index)

Syracuse media and fans offer their disappointment:

Quote from: Syracuse.comOn a big picture level, the growth of the game has hurt the Orange. What was once a regional sport concentrated in Central New York, Long Island and Maryland now has talent pools across the country.

You can't lose three overtime games without being in three overtime games. Those are three games, two against solid programs in Duke and Johns Hopkins [the third being us], where one shot could have gone either way and changed the outcome [to make Syracuse 9-1 not 6-4].

Amazing. The stats in general favored SU, but what a nice win.

And then:

Quote from: What's wrong with Syracuse lacrosse? Orange face critical game with UNC after loss to CornellStill, that's not Jeff Tambroni's 2009 Big Red the Orange faced Tuesday night. It was a 4-5 Cornell team.

Be careful what you wish for.
