Title: Cornell @ Union 1/16
Post by: RichH on January 16, 2016, 01:03:16 PM
I've been looking at this game for a few weeks now, terrified. Classic trap game.

Anybody know if video will be available tonight?

Answering my own question, it's a $7.95 purchase: http://www.unionathletics.tv/amember/signup.php

I haven't seen any indication that Time Warner is showing it, though I'm pretty sure they have picked up a lot of the RPI and Union games in the past.

I bet TWC carries RPI-Colgate unless local teams are also playing basketball.

I'll take that bet. TW in the Capital District is taking the weekend off. Their channel has the exciting Air Force @ Army tilt from south of here.

Michigan @ RPI was broadcast earlier this year, but there has been very little local college coverage. Often we get the western NY TW games from RIT and Niagara.

Union lost their game in the 3rd period last night. They can't be too happy about that and I expect a relatively tight game to at least start. This isn't the same Union teams from a few years ago but they still have the potential to win games.

The ILDN site doesn't have an audio link for tonight's game. This is something I'm paying for. I know the WHCU feed is available, but 1) I got a CHN notification well in advance of hearing it on the WHCU feed and 2) it's the principle of paying for a service.

FIrst time I've ever had to send a nasty-gram to the ILDN folks.

I'm more disappointed in this game than with the RPI game, even with the point. Easily the worst weekend of the year, but for it to come this late is a good thing. Next weekend is very important.

Agree.  Shots on goal went from 17-11 Cornell to 28-18 Union after we decided to sit on the lead.  After Union tied the game shots were 6-2 for Cornell.

So the Union Assistant Coach thinks Knisley embellished the hit.

The radio color man thought it could easily have been a 5, but the coach disagrees.

Aside from how ridiculous that comment was on its face, saying something like that is really very insulting to the refs. It's basically saying that the refs awarded the major penalty not based on the actual infraction, but on how much "damage" the infraction appeared to have inflicted. While I'm not suggesting refs never take that into account, I'm reasonably certain they're not supposed to, so while the coach was attempting to take a shot at Knisley, I think his comments were even more offensive towards the refs.

Especially since we've not shown we're capable of a lock-down defense when we have a lead (cf. e.g., Q). We're best off keeping the other team on its heels with a strong 2-way game. We lost the RPI game, but we didn't give it away.

Also consider this: http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs/schott/2016/jan/17/union-cornell-postgame-report-6-videos/

Quote from: Ken SchottFreshman goalie Joe Young has been the third goalie for Union behind junior Alex Sakellaropoulos and freshman Jake Kupsky this season. He hadn't played a game. Young doesn't get to go on the road trips.

That's basically the same as if Ryan Coon was put into the game for us. Cornell put 2 shots on Young in the 3rd. One of the few times I would press hard on the offensive accelerator with a 3-1 lead. You've got a green kid, I'm pounding him with shots. CU could have put this away, but instead "3rd stringer energizes and inspires comeback" is the headline.
