Title: Rarely do I agree with Bill O'Reilly . . .
Post by: George64 on October 27, 2015, 11:14:03 AM
but here's an instance where I do (see just after 4:35 mark of video (http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2015/10/cornell_university_fox_news_liberal_bias_oreilly_watters.html)).  If there's a blanket policy forbidding media interviews of students on campus, then just say so. Jon Stewart, where are you?

It was stupid for them to try to kick them off campus, as the complete and utter asininity(?) of that segment speaks for itself.

This.  The best antivenom for Bullshit Mountain is just to let them talk.

Well, I learned something from this piece. I learned that a Dunkin Donuts has opened in Collegetown.  On the same block as the Starbucks. ::yark::

Exactly. Trying to shut them off plays right into their hands

You could have learned that from the latest edition of Cornell Alumni Magazine (http://cornellalumnimagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2249).

Cornell offers an explanation (https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2015/10/27/cornell-university-zaps-fox-newss-jesse-watters-on-privacy-considerations/) about its media policy, but I still have to agree with O'Reilly, "Don't they understand that they look 18 times worse than if they'd just left you alone?"

Fun trivia: my brother went to high school with Bill O'Reilly (Chaminade in Mineola).  He doesn't remember him.

It's the part about no advance notice that causes the problem.  Students and professors can complain about the ambush interviews in their dorms, dining halls, classrooms if an interviewer with camera team are allow to go where they want and do what they want.  No one can do business on campus without University permission.  I agree the FA should give the media additional wiggle room but Fox knows the University policy from past experience [likely the same on other campuses, too] so they are self-serving when they make an issue of their trespassing to make news.

Yes.  The story was "help, help, I'm bein' repressed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS_1bzaj2fw)."  The Echo Chamber does this shit all the time to feed their narrative.  Cornell could have responded by not taking the bait and then -- no story.

This was a planned ambush for sure. What the university really needs to do is to show by prior examples that the media policy is applied in a consistent manner accross-the-board

"There had to be a way to make young people look stupid. I just had to find the right young people."

Day Hall just provided a new angle to a tired game. Notice how they moved their interview spot from off-campus Collegetown to an on-campus spot right near Day Hall?
