Title: LED lighting at Cornell sports facilities
Post by: billhoward on March 07, 2015, 10:07:13 AM
Cornell getting LED lighting at sports venues. http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/2015/01/new-led-lights-illuminate-sports-venues-vibrancy

HDTV viewers? ILDN-out-of-Ithaca HDTV video? That was inadvertantly pretty funny. Mark Howe, one assumes, no relation to the Gordie Howe hat trick family.
Quote from: Blaine Friedlander, Cornell ChronicleThe Lynah Faithful may notice that the LED lights eliminate shadowing on the ice, and the ice remains cold and firm due to the significant reduction of ambient heat, Howe said. High-definition television viewers can also follow the action better with the improved lighting, he [Mark Howe, campus energy manager in Facilities Services] said.

According to the story, in: Lynah Rink, Bartels Hall, Newman Arena, the Friedman Wrestling Center, the Oxley Equestrian Center, Teagle Hall pool and gym, Grumman squash and racquetball courts, Barton Hall, Helen Newman pool and gym, Ramin Multipurpose Room in Bartels Hall. No mention of Schoellkopf.

Larry Baum, Age -- the story did not mention if Cornell was also installing more lumens. What is the exposure now at say ISO 1000?

I can't make out from this story whether the changeover at Lynah has already happened, is in the process of happening, or will occur in the future (timeline not specified).

Most of the facilities were completed over the winter break (before the article was pubished), including Lynah. On paper it is a dramatic increase in lighting power.
